Barry Jackson @flasportsbuzz31s Sources: The Dolphins are working on finalizing a deal with Tyson Clabo. He has emerged as their choice at right tackle. Ian Rapoport @RapSheet54s Source: Tackle Tyson Clabo, formerly of the #Falcons, is signing with the #Dolphins today. Ian Rapoport @RapSheet2m It's a one-year deal for OT Tyson Clabo and the Dolphins. Takes the top free agent tackle available off the market. Moves Martin to the left Another stop-gap, prove it contract it seems. Makes us very flexible next year.
i'm stunned, i just saw that barry jackson is only 27 years old...i though he was in the 40s for sure
Clabo was the best on the market. I'd still like them to take a flier on something like seeing how well Eric Winston would play on the Left Side to compete with Martin There is no way in hell Barry Jackson is 27. He's worked at the Herald since the mid 1980's.
The Sentinel shows he's signed http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...o-terms-with-dolphins-20130505,0,938608.story
Winston was not very good on the left side...I'd rather take our chances with Martin, playing his natural position than moving Winston to the left side where he's not in his natural position....either way, I feel much better about this team now than yesterday...
We better pray Jon Martin steps up big time because right now i don't know what the backup plan is if he can't get the job done.
His bio in Herald says he's been with them since graduating from the U in 1986?? Makes him a bit older than 27...
barring injury, we're in pretty good shape now. I think we'll look back and be thankful we didn't commit 30+ million to Albert.
Armando Salguero @ArmandoSalguero19m Right tackle Tyson Clabo is close to signing a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins according to The Miami Herald's Barry Jackson. What's with all these one year contracts ?? What's the purpose of that ??
Tyson Clabo's 21.3 rating among players at the position last season was fifth-best according to Pro Football Focus. Well that is part of it , but it gives a heads up if they play well and you want to extend them , plus if they leave via FA they count for compensatory picks , which isn't a big part in of itself but it does add some value. It also buys time for next year , for FA and the draft , we just need a few players to elevate their game and production to be in a serious playoff hunt. Tanneyhill obviously and then some weapons on offense and then a couple players on defense. Not unrealistic at this point imo .
Great move by us, happy to have Clabo with us. Solves a big hole at the tackle postion. Our line is much better after this key signing. Also I love the 1 year deals, this way we have cap room for next season.
I am so so so freaking happy we didn't have to trade for Branden Albert. Love the move! Can you imagine John Jerry and Clabo run blocking together on the right side?
No way Jerry starts over a healthy Orr, our right side going to be much better this year with a Orr/ Clabo combination.
One year deals for some guys are smart money. I think Ireland will have a plane flying over the stadium saying 'GM of the year' if these players work out like they should.
Clabo is 31, so I like the one year signing. Also do not be suprised if Yeatman turns a lot of heads in training camp. I think Yeatman and Martin will both be really improved player's this year.
That's b/c there's no one left out there to get... IRELAND GOT 'EM ALL!!!!!
I think this is a very good signing for the Dolphins, as well as for the offensive line in particular. I am still worried about Martin having to play LT, but hopefully Philbin has a plan in mind for the LT position if Martin doesn't end up being able to protect Tannehill.
I guess we will see about that. If Jerry comes in with his weight under control, and the right attitude about football, there isn't many in the LEAGUE that could take his position. I really don't think many understand how talented Jerry really is if he were to get his mind on football. All signs so far is that Jerry is in the best shape he has been in as a dolphin. If that is the case Jerry is our starting RG. Last year when the OL coach said on Hard Knocks that Jerry has as much talent as anyone we have on the OL, he meant it. With Clabo, Pouncey, and cog and DT fighting for LG, if we get any improvement out of Martin we could have a really special OL.
Good move. Signing the best RT without having to make a trade and allows Martin to keep working at LT where he is most comfortable. Nice ending to free agency. So, Mike Wallace Dannelle Ellerbe Philip Wheeler Dustin Keller Brandon Gibson Lance Louis Brent Grimes Tyson Clabo Not too shabby.
Not sure who Orr is, unless you mean Lance Louis ?? That said, JJ is the guy they want to start on the right side, Louis, imo is insurance for JJ...Not that I think, based on a healthy Louis' play that JJ is better now, but he may be better with the right attitude, weight control, etc. He seems to be better off this offseason than the last one, that's a good sign... I can live with JJ/Clabo or Louis/Clabo, but would rather see JJ steal the job, as it means more than just one year...
Don't forget re-signing Hartline and tagging Starks. However, this FA class will be remembered on the health of Louis, Keller, Gibson, and Grimes more than anything else...
Lance Louis... sorry SU fan and I remember Louis Orr and screwed up... lol Bouie 'N Louie show... back in the day
Jerry is going to beat out Lance Louis hands down. Thank You Jeff. For an FYI to all the " in people " here. Eric Winstons knee is beyond, far beyond, repair. For others still harping on this zone blocking scheme thingy, get over it. Its only zone blocking on certain plays, the rest is mano y mano. Clabo, by far, was the best thing for this football team. Better then any tackle in this draft, way better. He has had a few " issues " you will never hear about and signed the same contract as Cogs did IE prove it. I am confident he will.
