Given the recent downturn of the mood on the forum due to the stadium deal dying, I figured a positive thread might help the mood on here at least until the OTAs start on May 21st to give us something else to talk about during this point of the offsesaon.

With all the post-draft hype about Dion Jordan, I thought it'd be appropriate to post this Cam Wake highlight video to A) remind everyone just how damn good he is, and B) let you fantasize about Wake and Jordan coming off the edges terrorizing <insert your QB name of choice here>. Enjoy.

What impresses me is how often he's unblocked in those highlights, that is a well designed defensive play.

One thing that surprised me was that a few times Koa Misi, yes, Koa Misi, got some decent push opposite Wake. Substitute Dion Jordan for Koa Misi in those plays. What do you get?

Noticed that as well, Koa was more or less occupying the Tackle leaving Wake free to the Qb

Suspect Jordan will play on the other side of the D in that situation.

I really need to get Wake jersey, first player in a long time I have considered. The man's a beast and going no where anytime soon.

You will reap the benefits of a professional athlete who understand he gets paid for his game, and his body in relation to his game.

I project this athletes body to work at a high level til 36

Re-watching that today, you can really see how Kevin Coyle could use a lot of guys.

Wake - pure and simple; a pass-rusher who 98% of the time comes from the left side of the defense. Almost like a SAM in a 3-4, but with his hand in the dirt.
Misi - playing the OLB spot opposite Wake in base packages. Could play DE opposite in 4-2-5 alignments as well.
Vernon - could play OLB or DE in sub packages. Was a 3-3-5 alignment DE and OLB last year. Bigger body to bang TEs off the line.
Jordan - playing OLB in base and sub packages opposite Wake. You can walk him out (a la SF w/Aldon Smith), line him up on over a TE, or put his hand in the dirt.

Miami's defense, especially with Philip Wheeler figuring to take over Kevin Burnett's role from 2012, almost seems like you could align it in almost an old Eagle Defense (i.e., having a fast, athletic LB and a S generally paired on the same side of the field). Miami showed that quite a bit last year with Burnett and Reshad Jones being the guys. Wheeler, who I believe is a little more athletic than Burnett, only upgrades that. Jones was superb in the box last year. I've seen it as mostly a concept that 3-4 teams run, but Seattle, Cincinnati, and Baltimore have all done it. I'd argue Miami's defense is more akin to theirs than a true 3-4 like, say the Steelers run. I think that's one of those elements Kevin Coyle might have taken from one of his influences: Dick LeBeau, 3-4 guru.

Given Miami's personnel, they could come up with some pretty creative defensive packages to run. I also think with the number of guys they have now that are athletic and can move - Jordan, Vernon, Misi, Wheeler, Dannell Ellerbe, Jelani Jenkins, and Josh Kaddu - they will also be more fresh in games. Karlos Dansby and Kevin Burnett took an awful lot of snaps. I think all of these guys can mitigate that high snap count for the "starters". I also think that if some of these guys play up to their potential and show some value on special teams, you could see the days of Austin Spitler-like LBs end sooner rather than later.
