I don't like the trend I don't like "talkers" never have..since my team has been a dissapointement for the last decade I took great satisfaction watching the jests implode...again for the 5th or 6th time this thread I'm fine with what has been said but they are getting very free and lofty with predictions and I don't like where it could be headed.. Several of them have mentioned emulating the Patriots I've never heard the Pats gum flap to this extent ever.
How about be doesn't put a number on it ??? that's all. I'm sure Wake would love to set the sack record or THill the TD record and on and on.
Well, guys have to set goals for themselves and that is what Thiggy said. He didn't dis anyone in the process. He basically said he's shooting for seven combined returns for TDs....is that an unrealistic goal ? I don't know but there is no problem with him telling folks that what he's shooting for, even PFT said it was an admirable goal.... There is a lot more talk and a lot more confidence this team has in itself. That's a good thing from the sports psychology end of a teams development....If they start talking about other teams, that's a different story...
Well Adrian Peterson recently said he wants to rush for something like 2,500 yards this season and nobody gives a crap about that. The real question is, who cares what other people think? Nobody on this team is being loud or boisterous. They are being asked direct questions about their personal goals as well as their team goals and they are answering them candidly and respectfully. Absolutely nothing wrong with that.
Because we suck. If you don't win, you need something. No playoffs, no stars, no quotes. When you're good, you can get away with it.
Talking is for insecure players and teams. I understand answering a direct question hopefully and honestly. But you don't hear Aaron Rodgers say he is going to break this record, or Demarcus Ware say he is going to break that record, or Bellichick say he is winning the Superbowl. It's amateurish. Act like you belong. Say your goal is to play your best and win games. Keep it vanilla, not that hard. Let someone else be the mouthpiece.
A lot of the best players of all time were takers. A lot of the best players in the game today are talkers.
No I dont think you are getting what he's saying no offense. To the last part, I'm sure that is partially because....you are a Dolphin fan
WR Steve Smith talks trash while running his routes I'm pretty sure. Damn all that emotional ammo he gives.
Maybe he can use a variable next time. "My goal is to return kicks real well" sounds ******ed. You are making a mountain of LESS than a molehill.
None of our players said they were going to break any records, nor has Philbin said we'd win the Super Bowl.
Mark Shlereth loves the confidence their showing, he said there's nothing wrong with what Wallace said.
They are excited for the season, and have some expectations for themselves, this is not the same as acting cocky without backing it up, I would call their asses out if that was the case, jmo.. Once the season starts, keep your head down, and play ball cause you haven't accomplished anything. Mike Wallace.." I like this team, I like the way they work, they don't talk, they just grind."
I don't see a problem with him saying "I want to break the kick return td record" at all, but no doubt meaningless comments like these will be under a microscope all season long. I think it's sad because nobody is saying it out loud but we know expectations of this team is to be a playoff team this coming season. We are all expecting that, whether you admit that or not. We made a lot of fun signings this offseason, we made a big splash in the draft, and everyone is expecting big things. we have seen stuff like this go wrong many many times before in all sports where teams spend big money and do big things only to still be completely crappy the next season. Look at the Toronto Blue Jays of baseball, or the Lakers this year getting Nash and Howard.
You can only be as good as you believe you can. Believing you can do it is the first step to making it happen. No confidence will lead to no success. I see nothing wrong with believing in ones abilities. I want players with big goals.
Big difference in saying you want to do something, and saying you are going to. If he said, I am going to break the record, then yeah, hes getting cocky. He just said he wants to. Nothing wrong with that at all, move along, nothing to see hear. This should not be news, and over blown the way it is
I didnt write it but I thougt it was excellent.. "What you perceive as realistic defines the belief you have in yourself. It's individual and his goal projects a positive self image and confidence. Something you should work on perhaps."
So What? Every Non Dolphin fan will do stuff like that anyway, and then make up stuff to add to it to feed the firestorm. From the 90's (I think!) Chill! Let haters hate. That makes the victory so much sweeter.
You know that Pouncey and Hartline were asked what they think about their team. Do you expect them to say "we are gonna suck *** this year"?
