Dieting sucks. I find that when I'm on a diet I crave food that I would normally never eat just because it's greasy and fattening.

I also cut down on diet soda a lot. Used to drink it non-stop, now I'll only have a few on the weekends.

    My body thanks me.

That happened to my brother, was a shift manager making 50-60 hours a week....OT was paying him out the nose. They offer him promotion to asst manager and salary, ended up working same/more hours and took big pay cut. Not worth it.

Yeah I am past the "diet" phase, I am just eating this way now. Diet soda is like the only thing I can't cut. Eating egg whites and turkey on thin bagels, salads, chicken breast/brown rice, protein shakes etc.

On another note, running my first 5k Saturday. Excited about it.

question is, what is the long term worth of being promoted? You may lose money in the short term, but if you're promoted into management, you may be thankful when you're my age.
Just saying, my father made the same mistake of sticking with the money instead of the promotion when he was your age, then I watched him work double overtime until he retired.

I am never going to be able to eat like this on a consistent basis. I love eating, but once I hit my goal I need to control myself better and cut back on the crap and add in healthier foods. I'm learning.

    Good luck in the 5k!

Yeah but I'm gonna be out of here by July anyway. I don't trust these people. I can't afford to work 54 hrs a week for 400$ before taxes. I'm getting paid 7$ and hr, and that's a promotion when I was getting 10.

Thats exactly why hes doing it. He gets me to work more hours for less money. I talked to him today and he gave me a ****ty excuse and a run around how I will potentially make more money, but he told the last guy that, and he worked their two years and nothing came about it. I may quit soon. I mean I am gaining a lot of experience from the head chef, but its not like I want to be a chef for my career. And I hate that I am getting screwed over, I am basicly working 14 hours for free now. I can't live on that, and I work 3-12 every night except sunday for $7.69 an hour. Not worth it at all.

When he told me I was getting promotion and salary, I thought it would atleast be what I was already getting. Did not expect to lose money

I ran my first 5k on my 22nd birthday. I try to diet, but things like Soda I can't cut out. And working in a kitchen I am constantly eating so I need to cut that out too. I try to eat healthy, but eating healthy is expensive. I love fruit so I try to eat more of it.

I can't eat healthy because of the people around me. *everything in life is everyone elses fault*

My GF is always wanting to go out to eat. My roommate always wants to get lunch and when I have my son its so easy to stop at a drive thru rather then going through the process of getting him out of the car and everything. So I just accept the fact that I am going to be this for the rest of my life. I recently tried to start at the gym again, so we will see how long that lasts....

I gained almost 40 lbs after having my first kid - up to 180 lbs. mainly because I was only getting 2 hours of sleep a night for 7 months, drinking tons of coke to stay awake, and not exercising anymore. then came the little kids diet - pizza, mac-cheese...
Now that my youngest is 6, I've only lost 10 of those lbs gained, but I've at least been able to work out and shift some of that weight to muscle. I'd like to get back down to 165 and keep the muscle, but have to find time to do some more exercise.

just need to wait a few years for your metabolism to slow down a bit and keep working out in the meantime. Or do what most cops do and start juicing. lol.
That, and make sure you're not gluten intolerant.

No kidding about the gluten intolerance though. I'm 5'9 and had always been athletic and a toned 147'ish through my first two years of college even though I worked out routinely, had good strength, and had a build that looked like I should be able to carry greater muscle size. I was so intent on gaining weight my sophomore year I literally stuffed my face like a 300 pound lineman. Coincidentally, I was taking a nutrition class at the time, and part of my grade was on tracking my diet and caloric intake which measured out around an insane 4700-5200 calories/day, aided greatly by being on a college meal plan (3 meals/day). Started each day with 2 full plates for breakfast. Each lunch & dinner consisted of 1 full plate of pasta & meat sauce, 1 full plate of hot side items, plus 2-3 chicken breasts. On top of that I piled on at least one Heavyweight Gainer 900 shake.

By the end of the semester I had barely gained a pound! Come to find out I was both gluten intolerant and had problems with intestinal yeast overgrown (candidiasis), so most of those carbs weren't doing sh-t but killing my digestive system. Subsequently, I tweaked my diet by ditching all the gluten crap and starchy foods, and the weight started coming on despite a significantly less daily intake. I ate tons of whey and switched my carbs & fats to strictly consisting of veggies, fruits, raw nuts, olive oil, and red potatoes. Then the weight began packing on and over the following few years got up to 185.

LOL don't believe any posters that tell you they are athletic and toned.

We actually have setup alerts that notify staff anytime those words are used. We are trying to crackdown on posters misrepresenting their physical appearance.

I have met many posters from here. Not an attractive group.

5'11" and 250. Neither an athletic nor toned build. Closest I've been to a stud was when I was in my attic running speaker wire.

talked to my boss today about me working 54 hrs a week for only 400$. He said I should look at it that I never made 400$ working their so I should be happy. I then told him I never worked 54 hrs a week there, and I am making below min wage. He then used the excuse that I could potentially make more money. I got job lined up in Vegas when I get back that pays a lot more. So I am taking it and leaving this one. 20K for 54 hrs a week. not worth it at all. Plus the job I got lined up helps me obtain my goal in being a cop
