They know their audience, I'm trying to explain they are expanding their audience. The gamer audience can be satisfied in E3 (and the rest). I don't know why this is such a divisive issue. If during E3 the gamers are shown amazing graphics and an impressive upcoming library with the promise of developer adoption, there won't be anything left for the gamers to be fearful about from the announcement pc.

The whole point, is that is more than a game console now. The real issue with gamers seems to be is, will it be bad at games.

Re: The NFL deal. You won't be able to watch any live games on it that don't already come to you via OTA signal/Cable/Satellite because the exclusivity agreement between the NFL and DirecTV for Sunday Ticket. The closest they could (conceivably) come to an independent broadcast over XBL itself would be the RedZone channel and/or something like Gamecast on NFL.com (and mix in some fantasy football tracking elements).

Perhaps they'll offer a service like NFL rewind through XBL (which could be cool), but I don't see how they could deliver live games.

Windows 8 shows that Microsoft isn't perfect. They make mistakes.

E3 isn't a reset button where they can fix everything.

I know they expanding their audience. They have to expand to grow their brand. I think that not only did they do a bad job of exciting their core audience of gamers, they did little that will expand their brand.

The Xbox360 and PS3 were more than a game console. It isn't a new concept like you are trying to make it out to be. In fact more people watch Netflix on their PS3 than they're computers.

Did you watch the press conference? What about it was good? What did they show that will get Non-Gamers excited?

My biggest problem with the press conference is that the non gamer side of me was pretty bored.

They would have to get a partnership with Direct TV as well. Sony has one because you can get NFL Football Ticket on your PS3.

Which, by the way, would have been a pretty exciting announcement that NFL Sunday Ticket is coming to XBoxOne.

Across the web at many of the forums I frequent the issue many gamers have isn't that they think it will be bad at games, but rather so many resources are being diverted to things other than games. Many don't want the social functions (outside of party chat) like twitter/facebook/skype/etc, or streaming services like hulu/netflix, or music playback (zune), and etc. etc. etc. They want something dedicated to the things they care about most - Gaming. The other "fluff" stuff is available on plenty of other devices (and those are the devices Microsoft is trying to pull the general pop from), and that's what Desides is saying.

It's a set-top box that plays games, not a gaming console. That's certainly how MS is marketing it. It doesn't mean it will be bad at games, it just means it isn't the main focus.

But that NFL Sunday Ticket to XboxOne would be an agreement with DirecTV really, not the NFL.

That is true, however it could have been part of the announcement. Showing how NFL Sunday Ticket is evolved in the deal with XboxOne.

As a staunch Mac guy, I never implied they were perfect.

What's broken? Look, if the biggest issue is that gamers aren't sure the new box will be a good game machine, then yes E3 can certainly squash those fears.

I'm sure no one is talking about it at all.....:shifty:

Which confirmed they could seriously expand their non gaming capabilities. Hell, Sony was talking about this level of functionality before the PS2.

Not my argument. My argument is simple.
    - The announcement didn't confirm that gaming is secondary to the next Xbox.
    - E3 can prove the next box will be a solid game machine.

    Ok.

Exactly. They're not going to deliver live games through an internet connection.

I get it, but that means you guys think because 100% of the focus may not be games then the games part will suffer.

I'm trying to explain it doesn't necessarily work that way. They could be just as dedicated to games as they ever were and have added other teams to develop the rest.

If its a solid game system, then why would you care if all the other stuff is available or not as a gamer?

We shall see. Microsoft paid $400 million over 5 years. That's a lot of money. Also DirectTV's deal ends after the 2014 season and word is they are looking at a NON-exclusive extension. They might have swung a deal with DirectTV to cover that one year like the PS3 does.

If there is one beef I have with the information coming from Microsoft...it's the inconsistent answers. Obviously some stuff is in flux..but they shouldn't have brought it up at all without full details (ie: The used game sales on xbox live, nfl deal etc). Well that and the Xbox One name...wasn't a fan of that. If your going to stick to numbering....go higher then 360 so you don't confuse the average joe.

If you guys are truly worried about MS focus on games I do have friends who work for various studios. All are using Xbox One as the lead platform (granted I only have contacts with 4 studios so it's not a big sample size) so they must still believe MS is putting emphasis into games. Microsoft is also spending 1 billion dollars on creating new IP's for the Xbox One. That's INSANE money for a glorified tv box guys ;p

I'm not entirely sold one way or the other. If the games really look good and fully fleshed out I'll be fine with the other stuff being offered.

I get the Xbox One name. I'm not a big fan of the name, but I totally understand why it is named that. Just like the Logitech Harmony One (even though it was a tier above other numbered models).

Just thought the press conference was boring and did a terrible job of getting people excited for XboxOne or even for more information at E3.

Which I find funny. Anyone who found the XBox one boring...must have fallen asleep fast in Sony's. Microsoft's was 1 hour and went over the the actual machine and the interface quite well. Sony's first 15 minutes was absolute BS. Desides posted that video of MS and "TV"....well lets post one with Sony and "Ecosystem". You could have played IBM's buzz word bingo game with Sony's press conference. I never made it past the first hour of it.

For those that don't recall that one:

I just find it funny you guys bash MS for their press conference when there was just as much crap over Sony's. Which goes back to my comment to Desides about this being a heavy PS3 forum (which he laughingly tried to state it wasn't. It's totally clear it is around here ;p)

Quite frankly neither are my favorite platform (PC ftw!), but man coming to this forum at times I feel I have to give MS some credit...cause they get very little of it from the regulars around here.

At this point I just want to see what games are coming in the first 6-12 months. I might put money away and grab a launch machine from one (despite the fact first batches tend to be problematic). I'll end up with both....but one will have to wait till probably after the first year. So it'll come down to who has the more launch games I want.

I liked the Sony press conference. They talked about games, showed some tech demos. I actually got a good understanding of what the system can do both as an entertainment platform and a game platform.

MS press conference had less than two minutes of game footage, that is not the same crap over at Sony's.

I fully admit to liking the ps2 more than the Xbox, ps2 could play dvds. I admit to liking the ps3 over the Xbox360, ps3 could play blu-ray. However I do own both and I am happy with both machines. I plan on getting both an XboxOne and PS4. Plus my current profession benefits greatly if the XboxOne does well, especially in the area I live in.

I have no idea how you could even compare that awkward clapping snoozefest of the XboxOne conference to the one that actually showed some gameplay, and displayed how games actually worked while talking about all the interactivity and entertainment one of the PS4.

Easy. Watch them again. Within 4 minutes MS is going into details of the machine itself. There is never a period of more then a couple minutes where they aren't talking actual details. Sony doesn't say one bit of ANYTHING in the first 15 minutes beyond buzz words. And in the first hour all they showed was a kids game and more killzone and a very small portion of the interface. I honestly don't know what they showed in the 2nd hour...cause I couldn't make it past the first. I'll wait for E3 at this point and read the articles/watch the vids sites link...but no way will I try to sit thru another Sony press conference that can be easily cut in half.

    Best laugh of the day:

Oh did I mention I'm in Canada....I wonder how much stuff will actually work here this time ;p Half the time they announce these features and they aren't available outside of the U.S. ;p

Basically if there is any lesson to be learned it's this.

Do your reveal at E3 the morning of...keep it to an hour and go over the machine. Then unleash the games the rest of E3. Don't seperate stuff. Unleash it in one massive orgasm and let us ride the waves (too graphic? ;p)

But who cares really if its the main focus? If it does it, and does it just as well, if not better than the PS4, then who really cares? I think people have taken the MS PC over the One and blown this thing out of proportion. I couldnt care less if its main focus isnt games, or if its 50/50 media, and gaming. As long as it does the gaming better than the 360, and equal to the ps4, then I really dont care. I do have a 360 now, and I can tell you I use none of the media/social side stuff on it. I used a 30 day free trial of netflix, which i thought sucked, because I was only able to access the Canadian content.

At this point, I dont even care about the press conference, I know it does all the other stuff (and that I'll likely never use it). I know it can do gaming. At e3 when all the good details come out about the gaming side for both consoles more than likely, that's when I'll really be paying attention and making my decision. As of right now, I couldn't care less. However, that being said I have read elsewhere that it will not be backwards compatible. Which isn't that big of a deal, I can keep my 360 hooked up if I chose. It's the always online part, and possibly lack of used games that would kill the XboxOne for me, and switch me to the PS4. Which would majorly disappoint me, because it would mean a loss of Halo for me, unless they still release the next one for the 360 also. Only time will tell I suppose.

The part of me that likes the Jetsons thinks that Skype over TV is pretty cool, though that does mean I am going to have to start wearing pants when I play Dance Central. Well if I had friends I would.

This system makes no sense to me. If there are no penalties for moving a game from one console to the other (selling and then buying a used game), why even have the system in the first place? What does this accomplish, besides wasting bandwidth and server cycles?

Dialing home has never stopped piracy on the PC side. Ask Ubisoft how well that worked out for them.

    This really makes no sense.
