Oh it's a hell of a deal for the Cubs, very team friendly. But at the end of the day Rizzo is guaranteed 40 million, I'd have a hard time passing that up as he's set for life so are his kids and grandkids. Seriously good for him too, he's a great kid.

I wish the Sox still had him in their organization. Damn that first Gonzalez trade, ugh.

You mean the 2nd trade but yeah. Although it would have been interesting to see what the Sox would have done if they didn't land Gonzalez. Do they still sign Crawford? Do they make a different trade with Rizzo? Do they sign a stopgap player? Would Francona still be managing today? All interesting and impossible to know questions.

I do wonder which package of prospects the scouts would prefer between Kelly & Rizzo vs. Wester & RDLR though. I'd probably go towards the two potential #1/#2 starters.

    He's pretty good huh?

Would be a pretty good debate to discussion who's the best RHH of the past 20 years or so between Cabrera, Albert Pujols and Manny Ramirez. Not sure if I'm missing anyone else.

It is funny too because I don't know he just doesn't seem like the type to be that dominate the way he does but man the guy just rakes.....hits for everything avg, power, situations....no flaws in his game expect in the World Series....

Not for nothing but TB usually attracts the worst kind of human beings (or super jerky individuals) that also happen to be pro baseball players.

Wasn't talking about Hamilton by any means. I was talking about Delmon Young, Josh Lueke, Dukes, Josh Sale, Luke Scott. It just seems like TB doesn't have issues signing/drafting/trading for players with questionable make up.

You could add Escobar to that list probably. With our payroll, we have to roll the dice. Obviously that includes over looking different things, sometimes character concerns.

I wouldn't say Delmon Young, Sale or Dukes mean much, considering we don't know what these kids are going to do after their 18. Could be squeaky clean up to that point.

Yeah I forgot about Escobar, good call. We also forgot about Matt Bush as well. I get you have to roll the dice sometimes due to payroll concerns but I don't know, sometimes it might be too much. I mean there would be no way in hell I'd ever pick up someone like Josh Lueke. It seems like TB doesn't care about make up or character, maybe it's due to Joe Maddon or maybe just trying to throw crap against the wall to see what sticks due to their limits.

No, more like rape. When we signed him, I had no clue about it. I started reading about him and was disgusting we signed him. But what can I do, I root for him to succeed on the field for the Rays.

The only shot they have to get rid of him is if Ned Coletti picks up his phone when they call, otherwise they're stuck with him.

Other reporters have been tweeting that they're hearing about other big big names that are going to be taken down in this thing as well. We'll see. Should be extremely interesting to see what the MLB tries to do with this thing.

As they sit in last place, perhaps they should stop looking at them and improve their product.

.257 and 10 hr's is worth 41 million? He's barely doing better than Adam LaRoche.

Why should any team have to live with a contract when the player cant fulfill it due to drug abuse? Even PED's are no different then using coke. Youre just breaking down your body just for a different reason.

4 current of former Yankee's on that list, yikes.

Meanwhile Andy Pettite just keeps pitching, easily the best guy to come out of this.

They were stupid enough to give it to him, they should live with it. I don't want this to be an easy way to get out of a bad deal.

Plus, it's the Yankees. Why not?

I dont hate the Yankees the way a lot of Met fans and fans of other teams do. I respect them because all they care about is winning and they get it done. I wish my teams would make the kind of financial commitments to win games the way they do. Why should I hate that? The only 2 times I really hated the NYY is when Clemens was throwing at Piazza's head and when the NYY re-emerged in the mid 90's as a great team and people you never even knew watched baseball started popping up out the ground as Yankee fans like they'd been watching their whole lives. Why should any business have to live up to a contract when they aren't receiving the product? Especially when the reason they aren't receiving the product they're paying for is because the player (in this case the player is the product) got himself suspended for drug abuse a 2nd time? This isn't addiction, this is willingly taking PED"s that if caught you get suspended by ingesting them you're doing harm to your body which causes your degenerative hip (in arod's case).

I don't know, I just feel like if I owned a business, I go in with the understanding that sometimes a player is a bad fit like a Jason Bay with the Mets or sometimes they just get hurt a lot like a Carl Pavano with the Yanks a few years back but when I cant even receive a good OR bad return on investment because the player keeps getting himself suspended and the reason for suspension may also have a large role in his degenerative hip thats kept the player out all year to this point something is wrong with that picture.

They didn't say yet. Probably waiting to get solid confirmation before throwing names out there. I remember Keith Law said he heard of at least 1 superstar player's name linked when this Miami story got out originally.

I mean, they gave him the contract knowing it's fully guaranteed. It was a stupid idea then and it's stupid now. I don't think this should be a way to back out of it.

Maybe I am being too harsh but I think the Yankees need to fulfill the contract unless he's expelled from the MLB.

I agree it was a stupid deal. I dont believe in giving players 10-12-15 year deals like some of these teams are doing. 7 is pushing it but I guess you have to go that far just to have a chance.

Hey nice of you to come out of the wood work and respond on a comment I made 24 days ago. It must not have anything to do with Rizzo's recent struggles right? I mean at the time he as signed to the extension he was hitting .277/.348/.527/.895 as a 23 year old so that wouldn't have helped you out right?

So you don't think he's worth an average of $6 million for the next 7 years? I mean Adam LaRoche, who he's barely doing better than, is getting an average of 11 million for the next 2 years, if his option vests then he'll get $15 million in 2015. Sounds like the Cubs might have underpaid him no?

Funny though, for someone who doesn't look at stats and watches the games not sure why you're basing his contract on stats.

But because I'm a stat guy I'll just throw this out there as of today Rizzo ranks compared to the other NL 1B: 3rd in runs, 5th in hits, 1st in doubles, 1st in triples, 2nd in HRs, 5th in RBIs, 5th in BBs, 6th in Ks (the lower number the better), 2nd in SB, 3rd in total bases, 8th in BA, 8th in OBP, 4th in SLG and 5th in OPS again as a 23 year old, while playing above average defense. So if Rizzo projections what the scouts think he'll turn into and if he continues to improve upon these numbers, since he's not even close to his prime yet, then yes I'd say he's worth 6 million dollars per year for the next 7 years.

And if you honestly think all Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer do is looking at spreadsheets, you're lost. And you really want to blame Theo and Hoyer for the Cubs beating in last place? Really? It had nothing to do with the previous ownership group and GM right?

    Few do.

Anyway what MLB 1st baseman are clearly better than Rizzo right now, just in terms of just talent only?

Votto, Fielder, Gonzalez, Goldschmidt are probably definites. I'd say Teixeira and Pujols probably are when healthy, at least for right now. And maybe on Davis, Napoli, Encarnacion and Allen, although you could make arguements for or against it too. So that makes Rizzo around the 11th best 1B in the MLB right now.

Now if you want to include the contract and his age etc, then Rizzo is probably in the top 5 or so. Again he's 23 years old.

I seriously don't understand the hate for him, although I suspect it's because of the 2 San Diego trades that included him.
