http://www.miamidolphins.com/media/videos/channel/ Couple of things: - In some video they show, he really is starting to look thinner, but he said he gained a little weight. - He played against Tannehill since their high school days. Says he met him at a track meet. - My brother-in-law has a mild case of Asperger's Syndrome. I see some similarities.
I wish I could post some still shots off a video from last year to show you but I can't, he's shifted his musculature, he's def in much better shape relative to last years camp, what I think happened was he got in great shape for the combine, and slacked off after that, came to camp sloppy, they got in his ***, so he redirected the weight to better spots.. The kid seems like he's ridin solo, but lets hope somewhere in there, work ethic gets understood, and he starts to learn how to be a pro, he was completely lost last year.
He doesn't look as thin as I was expecting after hearing about his offseason...certainly closer to a TE build than a big receiver build imo.
Shifting body fat ratio to the better side can appear as he is lighter, bottom line, he is in much better shape this year, his body is much more toned up and stronger. Fascinating, the kid has very good physical talent but the question is, will the mind allow him to meet his potential..should be real interesting to see unfold..
If you see his interviews over a number of years, it's vintage Egnew. Boring, curt at some points, but very intelligent. EDIT: I just thought of what his interviews sound like. They sound like a coach's interview either heading into the locker room or coming out of the locker room at half time...both NBA and NFL.
The part of the interview that I thought was the most telling and positive was toward the end when he spoke of competing with RT in the triple jump, during HS. He got in a little friendly jab about having won the contest. The reason I think this is so important is that is what was missing last year. You didn't see the confidence to compete. He looked defeated before he got on the field. Now at least it looks like he is starting to get his mojo back. He is again starting to believe he belongs, and that if he out works those around him he will have a chance. That is the first step in getting your head right. If you don't believe in yourself, you can bet no one else will. And the best way to start believing in yourself at the highest level, is to put in the work, so you can look yourself in the mirror and say, "I deserve this, because I worked for it", rather than just having more natural talent. Through HS and college he just had more talent than those around him. Last year he had to hit rock bottom before he saw what he had to do to grow up and get his head on straight. I think it worked. Now we will have to see if it can translate to the field. But at least now he has a chance, last year this time he didn't.
I thought I heard him say his team once played Tannehill in football and beat Tannehill too. I'd much rather hear that Tannehill beat Egnew in football, track.. and life.
