He's actually been having a lot of nice at bats recently, taking pitches, going the other way, etc. He absolutely should stick with the team when Middlebrooks is back and hell if Middlebrooks starts slumping I have no issue giving Iglesias some of his ABs.
On June 5th the Red Sox are 36 and 23, on pace for 98 wins. If they simply go 54-49 they will win 90 games, 59-44 for 95 wins. This season has been fun so far huh?
I also wouldn't be shocked to see Clayton Mortensen gone soon. He's been terrible since last August and couldn't even finish mop up work in a 12 run game last night. With Morales back as the long man, I think it's time to DFA Mort. Could call up Alex Wilson again or even Aceves.
I guess? I mean I've never seen any of these kids pitch at all so I honestly have no clue if it was a good pick/right pick. I will need to read up on them.
Looks like the Sox top 5 picks are all on Keith Law's top 100 draft prospects. Which can't be bad right?
Ball only projecting as a 2-3 is a bit disheartening, but seems like a great draft with good sign ability. Iglesais is looking to get his average back to .500. If I had to give out a team MVP, Nava has to be very close to the top, he has been awesome this year. Nava this is year, was what I was hoping JD Drew was. Guy did hit a grand-slam though.
A #2 or #3 isn't bad by any means. I don't think outside of Appel or Grey there was a pitcher with ace potential. Then again Ball is only 18 years old who knows what he will turn into. MVP would probably go to Pedroia, guy has been great all year.
I would like to thank the Angels for continuing to start Joe Blanton. Is the that bad for the Angels, Joe Blanton reminds me of Jeremy Bonderman now.
It baffles me that the Angels are as bad as they are. It goes to shows you how important pitching really is. That lineup is scary, yet they are 10 games back.
Their line up would be scary if it didn't have so many holes in it right now. The contracts Pujols and Hamilton have and a lesser extent CJ Wilson look pretty bad.
It's funny, for years and years the Angels got hammered for not spending big money on any free agents like ever then all of the sudden they sign Pujols, Wilson and Hamilton and are all average to bad.
Crazy Jose Iglesias stat: if he goes 0 for 40, he would still be hitting .289. His BABIP is currently at .508.
Will Middlebrooks is back with the team. Pedro Ciriaco gets DFAed, meaning Iglesias sticks as the ULT guy. Right move all around. Also opens up a 40 man roster spot.
That was a true craptastic game last night, only good thing was the W in the end. Obviously the Sox will be bringing in at least one pitcher for tomorrow's game but Lester really needs to pitch the game of his life to save the pen since everyone is on pire flumes right now.
If the Sox go 50-47 the rest of the season they will win 90 games. Games in April and May are important too and matter.
Yeah he's been pretty bad the last month or so. Just walking way too many hitters and having trouble putting guys away with 2 strikes or with 2 outs.
Sox are 41-26, best record in the AL, 2nd best in baseball. 3rd best run differential in baseball. Up 3 in the East. It's been a good 67 games. Already 7 and 2 vs. TB and 4-2 vs. NYY and only have to play those teams at their place once more for the year. If the Sox simply go 49-46 the rest of the way they will win 90 games. If they go 54-41 they will win 95 games. It's really been a fun turn around this year from the last two seasons. Of course all is not rosey and the team still has some flaws to it. They need to get Buchholz healthy and Lester back on track. They also need to get Middlebrooks and Drew going too. I still think Allen Webster and RDLR will be helpful in the 2nd half of the season. Just hoping the team stays healthy and it will be a fun summer and fall.
Yup it really all comes down to health, how the Yanks have remained somewhat competitive with all these injuries and lack of consistent hitting is beyond me..... I see TB and Boston with the most staying power in the Division...
Yeah I think it will ultimately be TB and Boston as #1 and #2 in the division in some order. I think both the Yankees and Orioles are starting to get exposed a bit. The Orioles with their starting pitching. The Yankees replacement players are finally back down to earth. Funny you don't hear people calling Cashman and genuis anymore now that players like Vernon Wells after a big April is back to being Wells again or how bad Ichiro has been when he was given a 2 year deal for example. Not that I think either team is bad, they should hang around the whole summer (due to Baltimore's hitting and the Yankees' pitching) and I still wouldn't be shocked if either team made the playoffs, as even TB and Boston has holes.
Xander Bogaerts has been promoted to Triple A. If Bogaerts hits well in Triple A, its possible he gets a cup of coffee with the big club in September. Of course whether he does or not depends on how wells Drew/Iglesias is playing and if Bogaerts is productive in Triple A as the Sox don't want to rush him and 40 man roster space too. Bogaerts is now the youngest position player in PawSox history, and is now the youngest position player in Triple A.
Good article on Daniel Nava: http://mlb.si.com/2013/06/13/gif-da...d-makes-chris-archer-very-upset/?sct=uk_t2_a3 Also included in the article are some funny GIFs of Rays' pitching Chris Archer jumping up and down on the mound looking like a fool after giving up a HR to Nava yesterday.
Fink I think you are being a little disingenuous about the whole Cashman/genius thing, I mean what do you expect? Keeping with the 189 model....there just isn't many options.....I think Cashman has done a decent job besides the Punto trade.....He is starting to fill the farm (whether it pans out remains to be seen) instead of giving away picks every year and signing every high priced free agent to immovable contracts.....He has signed guys to very low risk contracts that are IMO not bad.....Colon, Freddy Garcia, Ichiro aren't and weren't bad signings for the money...Ichiro while underperforming this year sure, was good last year and is done next year, samething for Wells.....I mean it is the Yanks they are going to spend money foolishly but as long as if they sign older veterans to 1-2 year deal that is fine....This was coming (downfall) anybody who was telling you different was lying....you cant sign free agents with big contracts deplete your farm and expect to compete continuously....it just isn't feasible... I would like Cashman to realize that they aren't competing for a few years and it is OK...I am fine with that, but while they aren't competing fix yourself to sustain the longterm future of the team the right way...St. Louis is a good example for a good organization that is run well....let these contracts die out, honor the icons that are about to retire the next few years, accrue picks and get the house in order....They have a shot to get another 3 picks (on top of their own) in next years draft with their own teams picks, Hughes, Granderson, and Cano... He will be a genius if he handles Cano the way I want him too lol.....
