List of Beasley tweets ... read from bottom to top to get start to finish time line Griese on Tannehill: I made a big improvement from my first year to second. I saw it in Marino. I anticipate that being the case with Ryan. Philbin wouldn't say what needs to get better, but is anxious to see how the running game looks once pads come on. Philbin on what's improved: I think our two-minute is better. Pressure package. Throwing the ball deep. Philbin will again mention "the responsibility and the accountability of being a Miami Dolphin 365 days a year" when he addresses team. Philbin: "The end, we couldn't have scripted it better ourselves if we had planned it that way. ... It was excellent." Philbin's here. Emeka Onyenekwu had several pressures. He's impressed this week. Former CFL'er Lee Robinson intercepted Aaron Corp. Tannehill's game-winning drive: 50 yards in 1:37. He was 5 of 8 on the drive, including a dazzling catch by Rishard Matthews on fourth down. Sturgis won the kicking battle today. He drilled a 58-yard field goal and had several touchbacks. Carpenter missed from 51. Clay had a great bounce-back game. Did drop a single pass. Nolan Carroll also flashed. He had a puck-six off Moore and also saved a punt from going in the end zone. Huge game from Derrick Shelby, who recorded three sacks. Tanny threw TD passes to Clay and McNutt, who had game winner. Tanny to Hartline for 2-pt conversion. Fun intrasquad scrimmage. Tannehill lead the White team on a game winning TD drive and 2-pt conversion to beat the Green team 34-33. Dolphins are having some sort of intrasquad scrimmage today. Can't tweet until the end though. See you then.
Granted it's only June, but I think this is the 2nd or 3rd time I've heard his name mentioned during OTA's/Minicamp as doing something notable on the pass rush.
ANY doubt that Sturgis will be the kicker on this team? Minus injury I think this battle is already over.
It seems the deck is stacked in his favor, but until the guy starts kicking in games I don't think anything is etched in stone just yet.
CK's been all about him, but he seems like a good candidate to at least be a David Bowens type guy. He wasn't flashy, but he was noticeable almost immediately as a rookie which is a pretty good sign. Pretty interesting background too as a former Nose Tackle.
Yea I think we have the lowest number of draft picks as projected starters on offense and defense with like only 10 guys
Tannehill Pouncey Jerry Odrick Jones Clemons Martin Miller Hartline Misi Considering wake was an UDFA, I'll count him. 11
lol. EDIT: Just to be clear, that's a quote from Bill Polian in that USA Today article. He's thumping his chest for thinking Ryan Tannehill was a "big time" quarterback coming out, but prior to the draft he said that Ryan Tannehill should ideally be a 2nd round pick and the only reason he would go in the 1st round is because teams are pushing up the position due to need.
That's what usually happens when you switch coaching philosophies drastically as recently as this team did.
This is the second time we've heard some talk about that Stanford guy that corners the market in E's, N's and K's in his name.
Cam Wake definitely doesn't count, we're talking about draft picks, you brought up a guy who went undrafted. see the problem there? I mean we didn't even sign him directly after the draft like with Bess, his draft was way back in 05 and he played 2 years in another football league. Although you left off Soliai which would make 11 but then again I don't think Jerry starts at RG so I think we'll be at 10
Yea, I've heard that excuse plenty of times, I think it happens when you don't draft well, which we haven't.
It's reality. Unless you've never paid attention to the NFL before it's obvious that there is considerable roster turnover whenever the coaching philosophy is changed. When it changes as dramatically as going from Sparano to Philbin, that turnover better be huge.
Yeah, there's no doubt we haven't drafted well but changing coaching philosophies definitely plays a part in it too. I have a lot of confidence in this regime though. I like Philbin's football senses. He seems like a guy that just understands it all so clearly.
I don't think changing philosophies really resulted in that much in the way of change. Not sure if there are many players I would agree are no longer on the team because of that. That being said, the idea that the Dolphins have drafted poorly is not something that floats.
A little game winning drive to send them off to vacation..It's good for some confidence.. Wonder who's gonna treat this month as a time to work on their craft as a solo artist, or who's gonna go on vacation and get fat.
i´m to lazy to post the links, but you check out the dolphins homepage, lots of new videos from today
Seeing that Alex is slacking at giving us our fix...screw him and praise the almighty "PHindog" Omar Kelly The Dolphins are planning to practice outside all day today if the weather allows. Humid day but skies are clear for now. Omar Kelly @OmarKelly9m I found the offensive line pairing of Will Yeatman at LG and Dallas Thomas at LT very interesting. Omar Kelly @OmarKelly11m Koa Misi applied pressure to Pat Devlin's offense and Nolan Carroll broke up a pass to Mike Wallace. Omar Kelly @OmarKelly13m Kelcie McCray dropped a possible interception of a Ryan Tannehill pass during the first series of the scrimmage. Omar Kelly @OmarKelly14m Vaughn Martin deflected a pass at the line of scrimmage against Tannehill. Omar Kelly @OmarKelly15m Charles Clay beat Reshad Jones for a 9-yard touchdown from Ryan Tannehill. Omar Kelly @OmarKelly17m Jesse Agler will be calling play-by-play for the preseason games this exhibition season for the Dolphins. Omar Kelly @OmarKelly18m Bob Griese, Jim Cefalo and Joe Rose will remain the radio broadcast team for the Dolphins. Keith Sims and Kim Bokamper on the sidelines. Omar Kelly @OmarKelly20m Philbin said Nolan Carroll has had a very good offseason, and labeled him "a competitor." Omar Kelly @OmarKelly22m Philbin said "all the play speed things we saw on tape are evident" about Phillip Wheeler, who is a good blitzer. Omar Kelly @OmarKelly23m "We like a lot of things he's doing in pass protection, but we have to temper our excitement & see what he does in pads," Philbin on Miller Omar Kelly @OmarKelly24m Philbin said the team's 2 minute offense is better, blitz packages is better, and team is throwing a better deep ball. Omar Kelly @OmarKelly26m Philbin said he'll talk to the players about "the accountability of being a Miami Dolphin" before the break. Omar Kelly @OmarKelly27m Philbin said Tyson Clabo is "very resourceful." Called him an excellent locker room guy. "He knows what works for him." Omar Kelly @OmarKelly27m Philbin said the team scripted 95 percent of the scrimmage, but they couldn't have scripted the end any better. "Excellent practice." Omar Kelly @OmarKelly29m Rishard Matthews made a few clutch catches from Ryan Tannehill, which includes a 35-yard grab early, then a sideline catch on final drive Omar Kelly @OmarKelly30mKelcie McCray had a respectable breakup of a Pat Devlin pass. Omar Kelly @OmarKelly31m Lee Robinson, the CFL import, intercepted QB Aaron Corp and had a big return. He flashes from time to time. Omar Kelly @OmarKelly32m Pat Devlin threw a short touchdown pass to rookie tailback Cameron Marshall. Omar Kelly @OmarKelly33m Jared Odrick was consistently pressuring the pocket from the inside. Omar Kelly @OmarKelly33m Julian Posey drew a penalty for holding Mike Wallace on a deep ball from Matt Moore. Omar Kelly @OmarKelly34m Rookie TE Dion Sims scored a big touchdown from Tannehill. He was wide open. Clearly it was a broken play by the defense since 20 yds of RAC Omar Kelly @OmarKelly35m Dan Carpenter missed a 51 yard field goal, which was the only miss of the day. Caleb Sturgis made a 58-yarder from the left hash mark. Omar Kelly @OmarKelly36m Tons of bad exchanges to the QBs today and one of them botched a fourth-and-1 attempt to keep a drive alive. Pouncey & Samuda innocent. Omar Kelly @OmarKelly37m Brian Hartline did drop a beautiful touchdown pass Tannehill threw him on a desperate 4th-and-3 from the 47. Major throw on a scramble. Omar Kelly @OmarKelly39m Derrick Shelby was the top defender of today's scrimmage. He managed three sacks during 11-on-11 work. Omar Kelly @OmarKelly39m Mike Gillislee and Austin Spitler contributed to a punt blocked inside the end zone. Would have been a safety. Omar Kelly @OmarKelly40m Cornerback Nolan Carroll made the special teams and defensive play of the day. He had a pick-six on Tannehill and downed a punt at the 1. Omar Kelly @OmarKelly41m Rookie DE Emeka Onyenekwu was a pain to the offensive line. He got two sacks on Tannehill today & one was on Tyson Clabo. Omar Kelly @OmarKelly42m "He's a lot faster than I thought he was," Cameron Wake said about Lamar Miller. "He's explosive. A big play kind of guy."
Really like to hear the positive flashes from wheeler in terms of his speed looking like it did on tape.
I'm very high on Matthews. Looks like a Gadsden type to me. I liked what I saw from him in limited action last year. I'd be really surprised if the main 4 guys this season at WR aren't Wallace, Hartline, Gibson and Matthews. Then you have a bunch of guys fighting for the last spot or 2. Should be a fun training camp.
Considering Louis has yet to practice, Jerry has to be the top guy for now. Soliai was missed. Had we not traded Bess, you would not have included him on the list?
Vernon and Carrol are also "starters" nickel package guys are starters in my book and lets not forget a lot of drafted talent has walked out the door...Langford Long Smith Davis...Ireland has done well enough in the draft.. its not really a talent evaluation issue but more of putting together a cohesive roster that deserves some criticism.
if guys like shelby and the UDFA which name i will learn if he makes the team could provide some steady pass rush, how cool would that be...the guy philbin was excited about in josh kaddu has not been mentioned once i believe though
Well, for me I have my first confirmation on what some might of thought could of been a potential bubble guy including myself who will make the team, and that is Nolan Carroll.. Philbin said he has looked "very very good, ( two very's is no BS) and said that " he played a lot of football for us last year and will play a lot this year" So lets just pencil him in and see what we have.. Grimes..Marshall..Taylor..Davis..Carroll..?
Buddy...have you seen this, i almost came.... http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap10...miami-dolphins-offense-will-break-out-in-2013
Happy to hear the praise for Nolan Carroll. He fell out of favor after the Buffalo game where he got flagged like 3 or 4 times. But otherwise, the fan hate on him reminds me of Paul Soliai prior to 2010. It's not been warranted. He played decently well in 2012 and his numbers bear it out. With the current cast that they have assembled, he SHOULD be starting on the perimeter across from Brent Grimes. That's what SHOULD happen, I just don't know if it will. Richard Marshall or Dimitri Patterson should be the nickel corner and come onto the field playing the slot. Actually one of those two should probably be cut because the money saved by cutting them would be more valuable to the franchise long term than having one more year of their service. I would cut Patterson because his contract and salary cap situation is cleanest. Marshall has more versatility. You can play him as the Star in nickel formations and you can also play him as more of a dime safety like what Sean Smith used to do. That allows you to get Jamar Taylor or Will Davis on the field for some experience. But Nolan Carroll should probably be the starter, IMO.
The other thing is, I like Olivier Vernon as a run defender and a mobility guy, and that makes him fit for the starting role that they seem to have in mind for him, but I can't shake the feeling that Derrick Shelby would be better at that position on those base downs. The Dolphins ought to think about trying one or both of those guys' hands at rushing the passer from the interior, as well.
did you saw his latest interview on dolphins.com, when asked what he thinks he improved the most, he said his pass rush, hand use etc...if he can build on that 3.5 sacks and lets say push it to maybe 6-7 that would be huuuuge as Les Brown would say
