I just found it funny how people were calling him that because some of the washed up guys had a good couple of weeks, funny now you're hearing people that want him fired because of those moves. It's not a knock on him, I agree you have to throw crap against the wall and see what sticks, especially with so many injuries.
He did the samething last year and went to the ALCS....... and for the record Fink I have wanted him fired since he failed to make that trade....that was it for me....and you know that to be true from my end.... It always takes a while for the rest to catch up to me (Jesus if that doesn't bring out BDH, I think we can write him off )
Nice win today, although Bailey likes to make it interesting much to much. Heading to 1st Sox at Fenway in like 10 years. Can't wait, playing the Rockies on a Weds afternoon.
Can't see that happening. The Sox let Papelbon walk 2 years ago without even offering him a contract. Now they want to trade for him two years later when he's making 12 million a year? I just don't see it.
So it might be time to start to worry a bit about the Sox rotation now that Buchholz keeps getting pushed back due to whatever is bothering him and now Lester with his 6 straight poor start. Without both of them pitching at a high level I don't think the team is going to be good enough to win.
What if they need a lock down guy, having question marks in that position and are right there to win it all? All of whihc I just stated is true....
Yeah Buch I dont get whats going on with him......Lester I think is just in a funk, it happens during the year.... Any word on Nap?? Last I heard was mystery illness?
Cant wait to see him....he gets his first licks against Boston too.... Any word on Cobb Nappy? Pitchers getting plugged lately.....CC AND Robinson got hit by comebackers yesterday as well....CC just laughed and waved off the trainers as it hit him where he has some "meat" lol
Apparently he's fine. Just a mild concussion. He was release yesterday. These types of things I think are never fully cleared until after a while. So we will see. But as of now he is fine.
Of course, with eveything, it all depends on the cost. If Phillies are willing to pay 50% and only want a C+ prospect back? Sure why not? If they're looking for the Sox to take on the whole contract and want top prospects? No way. Again though there's no guarantee Papelbon would be a lock down guy though. His FB velocity is now sitting at around 92 mph and he's always been a fastball heavy pitcher. Not sure if he could survive simply throwing that pitch all the time anymore. I'd much rather go after a SPer like Cliff Lee and hope Bailey can stay healthy. If not just throw something at the wall and hope it sticks ala the Rays view on the closer's role.
Buchholz is a very good pitcher when healthy, his issue is he just isn't a work horse like a Verlander is. He's kind of like Pedro Martinez where he needs a vacation or two in the middle of the year. No clue about Napoli.
He's not someone that I'd be really excited over getting. I don't think he'd be a difference maker, just another body/arm.
that's kinda what they need though...another arm to lengthen that rotation the same type of guy....can probably be had for next to nothing as well.....it is the Marlins after all....
There's probably going to be other teams bidding for him though so the demand will be somewhat high. He won't be expensive but wouldn't come cheap either.
Yea he's not going to be cheap. His value is inflated right now. He's a back end of the rotation type guy. Someone that would be in the pen come playoff time maybe.
Obviously depends on the playoff roster. He couldn't crack TBs or Bostons playoff rotation. He might not be able to crack Yankees playoff rotation depending on Pineda and how he pitches when he comes back.
You have to understand, he's an average pitcher. He's pitching we'll this year. But he also has been a little lucky. Considering its been less then half the season and a little luck involved, I'd say he's due for some sort of regression back to the world of #5 starter in a good rotation.
Your going to sit there with a straight face and tell me Yankees rotation is as deep or deeper then TB or Boston.
Like Nappy said, depends on the team and who's healthy. He would probably only crack Baltimore's or Toronto's playoff roster in the AL East. Again assuming everyone is healthy. TB is going to win the East. They have the best starting pitching and the most depth. I do think the Sox have the 2nd most depth with guys they can plug in whether it's Aceves as a #5 or any of their minor league arms (Webster, RDLR, possibly a surprise like Workman or Ranuado). I do think the Yankees and Sox rotation is pretty evenly matched though, again assuming everyone is healthy. Sox might have more of an edge with the back of the rotation though. Again though health is key. If Buchholz and Price don't get healthy this race could be wide open.
As of right now, yes absolutely stats show it too.....Sox and Yanks are neck and neck as far as depth and output......and Tampa is better, but NY's bullpen is better than theirs..... We aren't talking about huge differences here.... Those huge differences are on the offense...where you guys own NY...
Just messing with you, just looked at his stats this year, easily his best year. I would try for Garza, then maybe J. Johnson or Vargas if the move him. Going to be tons of roll the dice names this year to trade for.
He's a FA after the year if the Jays are far enough out of it they could move him. But as bad as they have been playing they're only 5.5 games out of the WC.
NY has a good staff this season. Not saying they don't. But I don't think their on par with TB or Boston 1-2-3-4(which would be playoff pitching most likely) BOS J. Lester C. Buchholz R. Dempster J. Lackey D. Price J. Hellickson M. Moore A. Cobb C. Sabathia H. Kuroda A. Pettitte P. Hughes??? Lets be honest here, Hughes is talented, but just not a very good pitcher. Phelps has had a little more success this season. But I am not sure how you can watch him pitch and come away confident with him taking the bump in game 4 at Boston in the playoffs.
Which Lester are you going to get though? The good Lester or the argue with the Umps while putting on 20 lbs Lester..... Right now it looks like you have the latter.
You can say that about any pitcher though. They all have good and bad days. Lester's bad days unfortunately have come in bunches.
There isn't much difference a all with Bos/NY rotation....that 4 spot sure they have the edge right now.....Lackey is pitching well and Hughes is suffering sure....I mean as for TB, you could say stats wise this year, they are both better than TB.....sure you guys have the names, but stats wise they aren't panning so far this year....and as well that is not to say it won't either....
I'll tell you what if Felix Doubront pitches like that for the rest of the season he'll be pitching in a playoff game for sure. Not surprising that when you attack hitters and not walk anyone good things usually happen and you'll usually go deep into the game. This Daisuke nibble crap and throwing tons of pitches doesn't work. Anyway great wins yesterday vs. TB. Sox are now 9-2 against them this year. It's too bad the Sox are equally as bad vs. Baltimore or they would have an even better lead in the East right now.
He was impressive. He lived on the corner all day and with his movement, and getting location he's going to be tough to hit. TB is struggling. Hopefully Myers can be a little fire starter. His hands and bat speed very impressive.
Doubront's biggest knock was simply throwing too many pitches and walking guys. He usually doesn't make it past the 6th inning so last night was a hell of a suprise and much needed especially since the Sox pen was almost on empty due to Game 1. If he can limit the number of pitches per hitter and limit the walks the guy can be a really good #3 pitcher.
