I'm north of Denver by 20-25 miles, roughly 50 miles from the fire, but the smoke affected where I live.
And here is another one. This one is probably 3-4 mi. away. I think this one is related to the thunderstorm last evening that just blew up. Our house would be the next ridge closer to the fire then the one in the foreground.
Did you see on 9news the other night that the approval for airsupport took longer than normal? Also, 9news was saying that gov hick rejected a chance to spend 17 mil on our own planes, even after it cost 47 mil to fight the 2012 wildfires.
A reporter asked him (lickmypooper) a question and he said "no, the question is" and wouldn't answer her question.
Yeah I remember a few moths ago he made a decision regarding planes. The fire close to us is now being tended to by two small planes. One spotter and one that must be dropping slurry.
Yes. But probably started last evening(Thurs) along with the thunder storm. Probably blew up today with the increase of winds.
Rifle fire? There's a golf course around there that I really want to play..lol Watched a flyover of the Black Forest burn area, it's huge. Now over 400 homes totally destroyed.
Rifle Mountain Park is just to the North of Rifle Creek Golf Course. World class rock and ice climbing, trophy elk hunting.
Black Forest fire-473 homes destroyed. A lot of them were very nice high end homes too. Royal Gorge-Denver post (I think), said 48 of the 52 buildings destroyed. Bridge has 32 charred planks on the bridge itself. I was there a couple years ago and did the big swing over the gorge.
So the Black Forest fire has been officially ruled as a man caused fire. They are looking for clues for the actual cause whether it be accidental or arson. Western slope is under a Red flag warning and DRY lightning is expected from noon to 8PM.
Total: about 700 acres. Ward Gulch Fire 60% contained Yesterdays thunderstorm caused another fire just West of the Ward gulch but firefighters were on it quickly. Some rain yesterday helped as well.
The only thing affecting me was the smoke last week. I've been here for 10 years and during my time, I could drive down the highway and see flames from other fires. At night, the glow was very impressive.
my brother and his family are right on the border. they already packed some stuff but haven't evacuated yet
Smoke everywhere. My poor daughter has asthma, too. Hope they get these other fires contained quickly.
