http://kotaku.com/no-tv-talk-at-the-xbox-e3-conference-microsoft-says-510680543 Microsoft in full damage control. Not even going to mention TV at E3.
Or the plan all along as people have pointed out since day 1. Seriously once E3's done not a single person with half a brain will care what happened at the reveal.
I got an eblast from Xbox Live yesterday. Its more or less this page: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xboxone/how-it-games It contained text such as: And Seems weird they'd say those things if they were trying to move away from the importance of gaming.
Hmm. It's almost like they have some sort of public relations department helping to say all the right things. Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 2
Welp. Nothing here is game-oriented. This strikes me as a "let's implement every publisher's bizarre control fantasy in an attempt to win their loyalty and squeeze Sony out of the market by way of lack of publisher support" tactic. This partially explains Sony's push to get independent developers and games like Minecraft on board.
This is stupid. Why the heck should I have to connect to the internet once every 24 hours just to play a game, especially a single player game?
Because you're a filthy pirate. Even if you're not a filthy pirate. You filthy pirate. Also because Microsoft wants continuously updated data about what you're doing with the Xbox so that you can be targeted with specific information. Ads, for example. Xbox is basically the only successful non-legacy (Windows, Office) product Microsoft has. Senior management has bigger fish to fry than whether or not you have "fun".
There was a time where I would have gotten a WiiU if i could have found one (without going out of my way), but I'm glad I did not end up splurging now based on their upcoming game line-up. Also, there's nothing Nintendo could do, short of pricing the WiiU at like $100 that would cause me to buy it now. And even at that price I still might pass.
What in that issue changed your mind? Upcoming games lineup? I am probably passing on the XB1 because of this internet connectivity and having less and less time to play. Will probably pick up a PS4 or WiiU a few years from now, personally.
At this point, I'm leaning towards the ps4 this generation. Certainly that decision is subject to change, but for now, I'm going to hold on to my 360 for as long as possible and wait until after launch to decide. Maybe around Christmas ill pick something up.
New 3D Mario, new Mario Kart, new Zelda. New Smash Bros should be nice too, but I'm not as big a fan of that series as most.
When the Wii U has 100% failed and I can pick one up for half a bologna sandwich, I'll grab one along with Smash Bros. And it will be the only game I ever play on it besides maybe some old NES games.
As a person who has both a 360 and a PS3, and greatly prefers the 360 this gen, I have 0 interest or intent to buy the Xbox One. Unless and until they remove the required always on Kinect spycam and the every 24hrs internet check at the least. I also am not a fan of the way they are handling used games, though I have never really been big in that market personally. It just rubs me the wrong way. I also have 0 interest in using my Xbox One for anything involving TV or Internet, thats what I have a TV and Computer for. PC Gaming will likely get my business with maybe PS4 if they capitalize on Microsoft's stances, though its not like Sony is some great company either.
This. 3D as in Mario 64, not 3D as in glasses. They said earlier this week that you can turn the Kinect off.
Ah OK gotcha. I am always a sucker for the Nintendo classics. Lately I've been burning through the gamecube classics such as Wind Waker and Mario Sunshine. I gotta say, Mario Sunshine was severely overrated.
Everyone complained about Sunshine. It's not overrated at all. I never played more than an hour of it. It seemed decent enough, but I can't really say. I'd like to play it sometime. Maybe it'll get released on the Virtual Console at some point. Also, Wind Waker is being remade in HD for the Wii U. You might as well have waited.
Damn, I meant underrated lol. I remember not liking it the first time around, but this time I am loving it. Sheesh, what a boneheaded typo there.
We waited how long for a next-gen console, just to have MS piss all over us? Sony better not **** the bed, or I'll move to PC gaming entirely....Steam Box anyone? I've always loved sony consoles, so in hoping they regain their foothold. That said, I don see it happening. It sounds like Sony is letting used games, etc. be up to publishers, and I can't imagine them deviating from how they work on either system.
Sony hasn't said anything on the topic… which is actually sort of unsettling, since you'd think they would be all over this as a wedge issue. We'll see what they do at E3.
There was a comment about Sony not requiring DRM, but them leaving it up to publishers. Don't have a link to prove it, boils have all been conjecture. Hope they have enough sense to pull off after seeing MS get grilled.
Both companies have conferences tomorrow, too bad I'll be away from computer when Microsoft has theirs.
I haven't seen that, but then again I haven't been looking lately. It does sound like conjecture. I won't be away from the computer… I'll be watching WWDC Timnote liveblogs.
I work night shift. So I will watch MS, give the finger to EA and then catch up on the videos from everyone else at work. I was thinking one launch console....but my roomie is reminding me I have to join him for Elder Scrolls Online. I hope that gets delayed. Kinda burnt after 8 months of GW2.
Not sure if I should put this here or back in the E3 thread, but anyway, apparently MS has completely removed the 24hr check and DRM in regards to game trading, and the console will also be region free for games. I'm personally stunned by such a 180, because this is absolutely not a forward thinking move in regards to moving towards all digital. To me, this is a completely reactionary move. Personally I liked their family share idea (even if it was not 100% clear at this time), but now that is completely out the window. Oh well, I guess. Wish they'd go back on points expiring too.
At least one of my friends who was unsure what he was going to get is now definitely getting a One with the most recent news. I do agree that many people will have moved on, but this will get some people back.
Kind of funny that I had just seen the cartoon prior to the MS announcement. Guess they have to change their XOne cartoon to match the PS4 now.
I think they've lost far more sales than they can recover with an about face this suddenly. Maybe over time they'll recover, but memes die hard.
Agreed, the people that actually paid attention won't easily forget about it and the people who didn't pay attention probably wouldn't have been this winter either. Still seems like a move that had to be made with all the negative publicity but makes all their "this is the future" and "cloud computing" lines seem a little odd now, to say the least (not to say they are no longer going to pursue those "paths"). Now all this leaves is the built-in Kinect, extra $100 price tag, and day one patch to remove some of "the wave of the future" features for people to complain about. It took the PS3 years to recover from their launch, so it'll be interesting to see if and how fast MS can turn things around.
I like how Sony has gone about the next generation thus far and that will influence me when I buy a new console. This won't be for awhile and of course it will come down to games ultimately, but I am very confident I am still leaving MS and going to Sony next gen.
The stupid thing is this is still not right. The sharing was infinitely better and I would opt in. They should have made it an opt in system so those without internet reliably could play but those that wanted the sharing option could still do it.
It doesnt seem to be about fanboyism this time. Now you have practical consumer issues that Microsoft has thrown to the wayside. The ability to sell an entertainment product at my whim once I have purchased it - as with any other kind of media, is not something to be trifled with. On top of that, forcing people to buy into Kinect is an absolute joke, considering that insiders are STILL saying that all you will really see coming out of this are casual-gimmick games, and dance/exercise. It's one thing to have it available, but to force it on us - while having a cost for the console at $100 more than Sony....this is going to be an easy win for Sony. Im not going to turn this post into a giant rant over what MSoft has done wrong, but those 2 issues alone are enough to ensure they are going to be firing a lot of people within the MS gaming division. Sony felt the wrath of the consumers from the overpriced PS3 launch, and I'll give them some credit there - atleast their high costs were due to hardware specifications that actually improve their game technology(BRay, 8 Core CPU). Im happy with my 360 that Ive had for years, but Sony has already won me over on basic consumer principles they have stuck with for the coming new generation.
Don't get me wrong, these are very real, legitimate gripes. I just LOL at the folks who have emotional ties to either system and either defend or persecute no matter what the reasoning. It's just like we ALL do with our Miami Dolphins. Not accusing anyone here of it. I'm sure it's coming though. And I love it. Personally I usually buy both/all and make an objective decision. I went back and forth from PS3 to Xbox360 throughout their life cycles. Even have the Wii but that has an inch layer of dust on it. Not sure I'll buy both this time. I did jump on a PS4 preorder and may flip or keep.
