This. And please note who this quote is coming from. If Fin D doesn't have a problem with it, I think we're all safe not having a problem with it.

Wayne is still a minority holder iirc

  3. If that's how you feel then you should drop the Dolphins

  4. I do not know the exact numbers but lets say that 10% of Ross's total wealth comes from football. I think it is fair to say that 10% of the money you invest indirectly ends up in Ross's PAC contribution. If that makes you uncomfortable you should stop supporting the team. Then you can sleep easy knowing that none of your money was used to get Scott reelected

Has anyone looked to see where he says the funding is coming from? is it donations from members? personal funds, company funds or team funds? I would tend to think that he would make every effort to keep the team separate from the PAC just to give the appearance that there is no agenda (even tho we know better)

I don't know anything about this Scott guy and really don't care since I am not a resident of Florida but regardless of his politics I can understand what Ross is doing since it seems that he followed all the steps prescribed to get his agenda on the floor for a vote only to be denied before it could get there. I can't help but wonder if even if allowed to go to vote and still lose, would he still be creating this PAC?

Guys like Stephen Ross give money not necessarily based on political preference, but mainly based on who they think will win. I don't follow Florida politics too much, but is there anyone who is favored to beat Scott right now?

I think you can only label him a loser looking through a very narrow lens. He pretty much has dominated the real estate market in New York City. Whatever losses Ross has had have been when he's taken a longshot on someone like Harbaugh or Peyton Manning, or trying to get public money on the heels of the disaster that was the Marlins deal. Those are much worse optically than they are in terms of practicality.

I think at one point it was 'throw a dart,' but Scott is polling a little better now. Former gov. Charlie Crist, now a (D) would probably be the favorite

Not too fast there Doc, I asked questions. Those questions could have answers where I'd say that a person might want to scale it back.

Take me for example, I spend virtually nothing on the Dolphins anymore nor do I have Sunday Ticket. I'm probably not going to any games and I'll probably not purchase any gear. My own personal fandom provides virtually nothing to Ross' PAC. Someone else though, may end up spending $1000's on the Dolphins and maybe by the time those questions I asked get answered, the person finds out that enough money from them made it into the PAC to counter their vote. I don't know. I just wanted to point out that its not just a dollar to dollar conversion.

Ross' "filthy republican-ness" (:tongue2:) is not enough for me to not root for the team. His PAC would be enough for me to scale back my Dolphin spending (if that actually existed in my world). But then again, like I said before, I would stop watching altogether while a Mike Vick or a Big Rape was on the team.

Yes, polling has pretty much anyone you choose to put against Scott winning handily. Charlie Crist, Bill Nelson, Alex Sink, the corpse of Lawton Chiles, your local Publix Shopping Cart wrangler, your cat, etc.

His popularity has gone up a bit recently, but he's been desperately avoiding acting like himself and throwing bones to every one he has pissed off before campaign season starts.

That's what I was getting at. I guess the original article stated he's forming a PAC, not a Super PAC. But does that distinction even matter anymore?

Problem is nowadays, fans know too much about everyone. The owner, GM, scouts, etc.

So now every move even an owner makes is scrutinized by the fans, didn't used to be that way. So no one cared if Joe Robbie donated money to one political party/candidate or another because they didn't know.

To me, saying there's too much information, makes no sense. How can anyone know too much about something? (excluding trite mob movie cliches)

Once again I would like to point out there's a potentially large distinction to be made between an owner making private donations to candidates/parties, and an organization forming a PAC which will support certain political issues/candidates.

I'm not sure why people try their damnedest not to acknowledge that potential difference.

Crist hasn't officially announced, but I don't think there is a tremendous amount of chance he doesn't, I think the question is more a long the lines of which of the other names do and challenge him in the primaries.

Well, I'd tend to think that Huizenga would start and/or donate equally objectionable amounts of money to equally objectionable candidates at the time if he could then, as he appears to be doing now.

not meaning to be disrespectful Chris but other than being obviously public and an organization what is the difference? he backs who he wants one way or another. if he believes enough in one person and creates an organization to support who likes, well then ok I guess. that to me seems a lot less "devious" and back alley than privately funneling money to some one. now I have no idea what the political climate in Florida is like and no idea about Scott so I wont even get into that. I jusr don't understand your position that this is some how a big deal. is that he is going public? possibly using team resources to his own political means? because if that is it then I see no difference with private donations as those same resources would be at his disposal. seriously, explain your concern because it just isn't obvious to me.

We are talking about a football team, players, wins, losses, TDs, INTs, etc... that is the product.

When we start scrutinizing the owner to determine fanhood, to me yes that is too much info in regards to football. If you like the football team, like the football team, it should have nothing to do with if the owner likes one politician or another, if the GM goes to strip clubs on Thursdays, if the CEO's cousin's grandfather had ties to the nazi party, etc.

That is information we never used to have, or cared to have, but now it is too readily available and people use it as an indictment against a team that is there to entertain us by playing football. I couldn't give any less fu**s to what Stephen Ross wants to do with his time or money when it has nothing to do with the Miami Dolphins.

As for the difference between a donating money to a candidate, or forming a PAC to help gather more donations/supporters for a candidate I do not see the philosophical difference. In the end you are trying to help support a certain candidate win a political office.

I knew what your point was, I just don't understand it. I think a lot of things are important and a lot of things aren't independent of each other.

For example, if Hitler were alive and owned a football team, would you root for them? Sure its an extreme example, but if you admit that things outside of football can and should affect something inside of football, then your point is gone.

It is the implication that he would be using organizational team resources for this. That is not the same as him using his own private wealth.

Since this whole thing seems to be relatively new, I can't find filing details on the PAC so I'm just speculating. I don't see anything in the articles that indicates it's tied to the Dolphins. Of course, it's discussing the stadium, but that doesn't mean it's a company PAC. Typically PACs tied to companies are named after the company (see: http://www.opensecrets.org/pacs/lookup2.php?strID=C00109017) and linked so that employees and company resources can be used. The fact that it's named "Florida Jobs First" and not "Miami Dolphins PAC" indicates to me it's about advocating for an issue rather than a corporation. If it were connected to the Dolphins, the only people who could contribute would be Dolphins employees/ family to advance the interest of the Dolphins. That doesn't seem to be the case.

If it's indeed not linked to the Dolphins, then any contributions of resources would be considered in-kind donations past the legal limit. It seems to be a PAC and not an independent expenditure committee, so Ross and any Dolphins employees are still prohibited to giving only $5,000 of their own money.

Assuming it's not tied to the Dolphins, I don't see a difference between him giving to and running this PAC or giving $50,000 to Scott's SuperPAC (as he did last election). Rather than give to an ambiguous committee, he's forming his own which allows him to formulate the direction and target whomever he likes. In my opinion, money given to the Dolphins can't be used to fund this PAC, outside of whatever money funnels into Ross' pocket and to politicians. Corporations can't contribute to non-connected PACs, it's not a "SuperPAC", and the legal limits of campaign contributions to PACs ($5,000 for an individual) would hold true. It'll be possible to know more when the filing is archived with the state of Florida.

Right, but my point is that he can't give to someone that isn't running. When the Democratic candidate is elected, Ross will have the same conversation with him as he did with Scott. He's going to try and cover every base he can.

    1) He vetoed the Florida High Speed Rail plan. Which not only would have created alot of jobs, but it would have been fantastic for in-state tourism.
Oh and it would have prevented traffic accidents.

    2) Drug Testing Welfare Recipents: Which not only failed hilarously, but ended up costing the state more money than it was supposed to.
Oh and it was deemed unconstitutional.

    3) Want paid sick leave? TOO BAD PEASANTS!

    4) He was guilty of healthcare fraud and this state was dumb enough to vote for him.

    5) Marijuana pipes are being banned in the state of Florida. First time offense is a misdemeanor, anytime after that is a felony.

And thats just off the top of my head.

This is impossible. Disgustipate just got done telling us Ross is a loser who only backs losers. So if he backed Scott in the last election that means Scott lost. But he won. So it doesn't make any sense.

    He also:

got through the GOP-controlled Legislature teacher pay raises and a K-12 funding increase totaling $1.2 billion
    more money for universities and Everglades cleanup;
and small tax breaks for manufacturers.
the state's once-massive unemployment rate dipped to 7.2 percent in April — a factor in Scott's improving numbers.

He wants to expand medicaid and teacher salaries too.

    Yeah, this guy sucks!

Crist was a Republican. Didn't he just convert? Of course DWS is a nutjob so that is definitely a crumb.

And I really can't believe today anyone is calling ONE party, the party of the rich and powerful. They both are and you must have blinders on to believe one isn't.

Plenty more where that came from.

Just signed a bill into law that makes any glass or metal pipes (even unused ones) that are deemed (quite subjectively) to be "drug paraphernalia" to be illegal, and that anyone found in possession of one two times is now a 3rd degree felon and can't vote.

Also tried to mandate that all state employees get drug tested. That was also ruled unconstitutional.

DWS isn't a nut job, if one is a middle or lower income class citizen. The people who live on $60k a year or less. Crist was too moderate for the conservative right wing nuts that control the GOP.

Yes to some degree they both kowtow to the rich and powerful but the GOP is far worse in that regard. I know both parties have their problems and sometimes I do not agree with the Democrats, other than Sanders of course, but I next to NEVER agree with the Republicans. Those dickwads control the House, but cannot come up with one jobs bill, but seem to have no problem coming up with multiple bills concerning women and how they use their vaginas.

What I find more troubling is that a non-Florida resident (Ross), is willing to help re-elect a very unpopular governor, who has not helped our state in any shape or form since taking office, has been basically a non-entity in many respects and has been determined to undermine the ability of lower income people to get affordable health insurance because it directly affects his wealth (he is involved in owning or running not sure which an HMO or PPO) to get his agenda taken care of at the expense of the residents of Florida and their needs, just to get his taken care of. That is not the way a good person of upstanding principles and character acts. To me this makes Ross a complete douchebag IMO.

How is this troubling? Ross will help elect anyone that will help his business. If the Democratic nominee tells Ross he will help him get a new stadium, then Ross will help him too. This isn't as nefarious and partisan as everyone wants to make it out to be.
