I wonder how Bill Belichick manipulated the Supreme Court into providing a distraction from Hernandez?

Sad part is.........I don't think this helps Miami at all. I think Jake Ballard has better potential as a pass catching TE then Hernandez. Remember before Ballard got hurt he put up a 38 catch/600+ yard season at 15.9 yards a catch. He regains that form and NE still has a deadly duo at TE.

Ballard is a solid TE, but he's not a matchup nightmare like Hernandez was. Bring it on.

What a strange story. A thug isnt gonna make it through high school football, let alone a college powerhouse, then recieve a large contract in the pros, regardless of god given talent. So the guy pissed you off in the bar? Laugh it off, youre the 40 million dollar man with white man money, this guy is playing flag football. I dont buy that hes following gang orders, he could be the godfather of any gang with his money. And just how hardcore can Connecticut be? Im guessing he was coming down, or coming off of a juice cycle (doubtful that an nfl player doesnt know how to properly take steroids) to escape reality to partake in a murder. Maybe it was just a matter of time and hea gotten lucky since now with hiding his shenanigans.

Gronk is a physical mess who can not stay healthy and Hernandez is in prison. Ballard is just a guy. Welker is gone.

I blitz Brady right up the gut every down and beat him into submission.

To the extent that Ballard makes them more dangerous, it is solely in the run game. And they are a good running team. What made the Pats so incredibly ridiculous, (besides Brady being best QB in football) is the matchups the TE's created. Ballard, for all his skill, does not create mismatches in passing game. He is as conventional a TE as you'll ever see. He can catch, he's got skills...but nothing like the mismatches created by that two headed TE monster the Pats had with AH and Gronk.

So running the ball, the Pats are going to be outstanding. But any team with Tom Brady at QB, running the ball is not playing to your strength.

Absolutely, he's just a guy, but he'll have Brady throwing to him. He's closer to a Fasano than a Hernandez type TE...he's more of pass receiver than Fasano, but not by much... About the biggest difference between them is the caliber of QB throwing to them over the last few years...

But the matchup issues that Hernandez offered are anywhere near what Ballard offers...

AH was obviously so consumed with himself that he saw Aaron Hernandez as untouchable... why else risk everything? What a sad person Hernandez is.

Football related, while it should be easier to cover their offense now, Brady has always elevated the level of play around him. This also give NE a HUGE boost in coaching the "underdog role", which BB relishes... The division is surely not a given.

I'm not even looking past the Jets and Bills. Tannehill needs to step up, and Philbin has to prove he can beat the teams he should beat.

You're too young for that... Wait til you get to almost 64... then everything becomes a mystery... Like where did my shoes go?... What is the 'any' key?

    Back to cases:
I was watching Hernandez closely. I watched his face a lot. I saw on his face a look that makes me wonder if this kid is not sociopathic. I have had to deal with a sociopathic family member, and his 'disinterested, this really doesn't affect me, don't they know that I am beyond this' appearance seems altogether too familiar.

And BTW, to all you who proclaim that talent is the only thing that matters...this is why its not.

Its not just this jackhole either, since the just the Super Bowl, there have been 27 players arrested (28 if you count that guy from the Browns who was just arrested for attempted murder). Link

There were red flags with this dip **** coming out of college but he had all the talent in the world. Now the Pats are hurting from a talent and financial position. Taking Hernandez hurt the Patriots, it didn't help them.

Losing Hernandez will hurt a little, it's the cumulative effect of losing AH, Welker, Lloyd, etc that's going to really bite them. And at this point Gronkowski is a major question mark as well. Who knows when he'll be ready to play or when he'll be back to playing at the level he did before the surgeries. The Pats' offense cant function the way it did for the past few years. I'm sure they'll have some new wrinkles, they always do, but it won't be as effective as what we've seen. More running game, less no huddle would be my guess.

If Miami plays as well as I think they can it won't matter what New England does.

The red flags were related to weed iirc. College kid smoking weed doesn't translate to future murderer. No one saw this coming.

Tom Brady once threw 24 touchdowns with Reche Caldwell as his number one WR. They went to the AFC championship and lostto the colts 38-34... Brady isn't in 2006 form anymore, but he's still Tom Brady. While AH was a big weapon for him, he'll get the bes out of his crew. He also has a stable of running backs.... And as long as Gronkowski is healthy come week 12, New England is still a contender.

Having said that, Miami's prospects of winning he east haven't looked so good pre-season since 2002... Going to be a wild year.

The guy will actually have an easier time in prison, if he is gang affiliated, that gang will have his back, and he is there for murdering somebody, not to mention is a pro-athlete.....the guy will be a celebrity.....

He didn't diddle a child, beat up a chick, or rape anybody.....he executed a dude....as long as he doesnt flip and testify, he will be a boss.....ESPECIALLY if these other 2 guys flip on him and he catches the murder 1......

I don't agree with this. Aaron Hernandez was a role player. The Patriots' prolific passing offense made him productive. He was essentially a large-ish wide receiver in the David Givens mold and the only thing unique about him was his ability to operate out of the backfield and take screens.

Since drafting Aaron Hernandez the Patriots have been without his services in 10 games from 2010 to 2012. They scored 34, 38, 31, 31, 30, 52, 31, 45, 37 and 59 points in those 10 games. They never scored below 30 points in any single one of those games, and averaged 39 points per game over the 10 game period. That's nearly a season's worth of games averaging more points per game (38.8 ppg) than the Patriots' record-breaking 2007 season (36.8 ppg).

So we're sitting here obsessing about Aaron Hernandez and how losing him is a harbinger of their downfall and I can guarantee the Patriots aren't sweating it that much. Seems to me over the last couple of years the Patriots have been a lot more focused on building the ground game and defense, as opposed to being obsessed with maintaining a cast of pass catchers that they never had when they won the Super Bowls in 2001, 2003 and 2004.

He failed multiple drug tests. You're right, that doesn't mean anyone could foresee a murder charge, but you could completely foresee he was stupid repeatedly. I don't care if someone smokes pot, but to get repeatedly busted shows you're an idiot. Idiots get dumber when they have money and fame...its a tale as old as time. Character matters a lot on the football.

They lost their 3 best pass catching options, I PROMISE you they are "sweating" in NE. And he was far from a role player, more like a matchup nightmare.

It's a tough loss for an already hurting core.

Ironic that after having won Super Bowls in 2001, 2003 and 2004 with guys like Jermaine Wiggins, David Patten, Troy Brown, Deion Branch, David Givens, Daniel Graham and Christian Fauria at the forefront of their passing attack, if the Patriots had acquired weapons like Danny Amendola and Rob Gronkowski, we'd all be sh-tting ourselves about how if they could win before with that pile of garbage then they should be even more unstoppable now with quality weapons like those.

Instead we're dancing naked around bonfires celebrating the death of the Patriots and our ascendance to the top of the division.

Just sayin. Pay attention to that defense and ground attack more than you pay attention to the prospect of throwing the football to the likes of Jake Ballard, Daniel Fells, Donald Jones and Julian Edelman. If you want the Patriots to complete their downfall, it's the defense and ground game that need to falter because those are the baskets into which Belichick has been sneaking all his eggs the last few years.

They didn't "lose" Brandon Lloyd. They decided to get rid of him because he was a distraction and not nearly as good as people thought he would be in NE. In case you haven't noticed, he's still unemployed. If they were willing to put up with his crap they could re-sign him tomorrow.

And if you ask the Patriots, Wes Welker for Danny Amendola is a straight up swap, and perhaps even an upgrade. I can PROMISE you that is exactly what they think about that. I don't know if they're right, but that's what they think.

And last I checked, Rob Gronkowski was still alive and on the roster and you can't even tell me with any kind of certainty that he'll even miss a single game this year because you don't know.

So no, I don't believe the Patriots are sweating over this.

But wouldn't we prefer they change their philosophy some, anything that takes the ball out of Brady's hand and gives him less playing time is good for the rest of the league..

I too think Brady can make chicken salad out of sh&$, but great and very good weapons missing will lessen your efficiency..lesser talented players require less attention.
