Uh, no. Things are looking good. Morrison is playing well. Ozuna is playing well. Fernandez is playing well. Dietrich is playing well. Turner is playing well. We still have Stanton, who will eventually turn it around. Oh and we have a top 5 farm system in baseball. I suggest you stop posting in this thread if this is the type of attitude you're going to bring.
Baseball America released it's Mid Season top 50 prospects today. Obviously Fernandez and Ozuna weren't on it, but we did have two other prospects in Yelich and Heaney. Surprised Marisnick and Nicolino didn't top the list with the way they've played. Especially Marisnick.
Yes I think he's going to be very good. Not Trout/Harper good (who is though?) but in that next tier of prospects. He was in a lot of people's top 15 prospects in baseball at the start of the year, he was in Keith Law's top 6th. I think he's the Marlins franchise player with Fernandez.
Yeah this is all smoke and mirrors. His GB% is dropping hard, his K rate is awful, his line drive percentage is skyrocketing. He can't keep that up. And even if he does somehow, there's no way it would translate at the MLB level. I think he has a chance to be really good, yeah.
Where did you find his GB% numbers and LD% numbers? What's weird about Nicolino is he was a great strikeout pitcher the past two years.
The irony is strong with this one. I'm no longer satisfied with "wait 'till next year, our farm system is awesome." I'm not going to avoid posting that opinion just because you don't like it.
http://minorleaguecentral.com/player?pid=592593 If he can get back to where he was, that would be great. But he definitely doesn't deserve to be a top-50 prospect.
Our farm system is really strong AND everyone should be fed up with accepting that while sucking. Maybe we have it right this time though. It will depend if our FO made all those moves to be smart or to save cash.
Dude, as long as we have the world's cheapest millionaire as an owner, it's going to be that way. At the moment, we're like a meteor. Every now and again, we'll make an impact, but only rarely.
We made those impacts when Dave Dombrowski was the GM (the guy who left for the Tigers and then raped us of Miguel Cabrera). Now we just have the cheap owner.
I know, but with a new stadium they get one chance to show the fanbase that now they are dedicated to spend money but want to do it correctly. I have no faith in it happening. I have no faith that this ownership can do anything but dump on us but....what choice do we have other than to hope for the best?
He should probably stay in the minors a bit longer to learn how to hit LHPers, otherwise I fear he'll end up being a platoon player.
I doubt we'll see serious improvement in a short amount of time. Besides, he's a career a .270/.344/.414 against LHP. The average and OBP are fine, it's the power that's lagging behind a bit, which will improve naturally as he fills out and add weight. Dude is OPSing .881 as a 21 year old in AA. We're way past super-2 status. It's time.
They are coming up! #Marlins option Derek Dietrich and Marcell Ozuna to Jax; Christian Yelich (#21) and Jake Marisnick (#23) to be selected tomorrow - Frisaro
Yes. Ozuna and Dietrich have been overmatched. I might have just kept Dietrich up for the rest of the year because there's no one beftter a 2nd, but he could use more time. I'm excited to see these two guys.
Lifting my boycott of watching/listening/supporting this team. Unless of course the ownership again proves that it is entirely cheap and unwilling to spend any money. As it was never about winning/losing to me so much as the way the team is run. I'm ready to put that feeling behind me and support us the rest of the way. Quick question...what is up with Stanton and his BA?
He strikes out a lot. Hard to maintain a good batting average. The good news is his OBP is fine so it doesn't matter.
Didn't know if it was due to that or nagging injuries. I always kind of hoped he could keep his BA around .270 or so though we all knew he'd never be a .300 hitter. Ever.
I don't think Loria will ever spend money again. Under him, I think this is a team that will max out at around 60 million in cap. Just a guess but you get the idea. It's just something we have to accept.
Most likely. I don't need to see us as big spenders, I'd just like to see us as a team that retains -some- of the talent it develops and isn't a farm system to other teams entirely. I agree 100% with what you said though.
Could be both. He hasn't really got "Oh my god Stanton hot" yet where he's blasting everything over the plate for 7-10 games and that could be because he's played so intermittently. He's probably better than a .220 hitter so I wouldn't worry about it much. I'm hoping we extend our own players like we did with Hanley, JJ, Anibal, etc. and go sign smart low-to-mid-level free agents. Guys like Beltran, Napoli, Haren, etc. No need to go get Reyes, just spend your money wisely. No Heath ****ing Bells. Exactly.
Watching now... exciting bottom of the 9th. Apparently Yelich had a nice debut. Cishek looking nice in the 9th with the 1st punchout.
Yelich is absolutely the real deal. I looked at his swing and its fantastic. He's going to be good. Fast.
