I have some news...and this cannot leave this thread....

Heat are considering using Amnesty Waivers on Joel Anthony due to Jarvis Varnado's play in the Orlando Summer League. The Heat want as many as 3 spots open this year, and one is reserved for Oden if he accepts their standing offer.

Heat love Ian Clark, but have too much competition for him, and quite frankly, a guy like that, can probably make another team easier, and also get some promises for playing time. They have competition. A guarantee off of one summer league never happens. SO it is gonna be tough. It will take Riley's many persuasive powers to get him into camp.

Heat wanted one of the point guards to distinguish themselves. They are very disappointed in Council and Jackson.

Heat have spoken to Mario Chalmers about an extension.

Would absolutely love to see Rio extended.

I'm not sure amnestying the Warden is the best idea. He is still a good defender, but are we really going to find a big upgrade with the extra money? I'm not so sure of that.

I think Dallas is getting Oden. They can throw more money at him than the Heat or the Spurs can. They've already missed out on everything else unless they'd rather have Dalembert.

I'm really not surprised about potentially amnestying Joel Anthony.

You look at Sharknado and he is Joel Anthony with a little more athleticism, possibly with more offensive capabilities somewhere down the road. He has the same weaknesses and he has the same strengths as Anthony. This to me was written in the stars when the Heat grabbed Birdman and he played so well for them. That affords them the ability to go younger and less proven with Joel Anthony's role.

The point Section brought up about needing the amnesty for another player down the road and regretting not having it...that's a real good point. But I'm having a little trouble figuring who exactly they're going to wish they had that amnesty ability for, and maybe they are having a little trouble figuring that out as well.

The point guard position was definitely a little disappointing. I know we've got a local Vincent Council fan here but he was not good at all, and the guy I liked (Myck Kabongo) possibly even better than the draft pick James Ennis, made me look like a damn fool for liking him at all. Cedrick Jackson averaged 9.7 points per 48 minutes on 0.294 shooting, Vincent Council only 7.7 points on 0.267 shooting, and Myck Kabongo only 4.9 points on ludicrous 0.143 shooting.

HOWEVER, it must be said that Cedric Jackson averaged a staggering 17.2 assists per 48 minutes, AND an additional 11.3 total rebounds per 48 minutes. Think about that. Cedrick Jackson averaged a triple double per 48 minutes during his 89 minutes of summer league play. I think clearly the man is a little limited in what he can do offensively, and prone to too many turnovers, but when he was in the game the difference in how the offense was run was easily noticed. It is NOT a coincidence that he was a total of +59 during his 89 minutes of game play. The next highest player was Ian Clark at +29 during his 140 minutes.

Going to Rio regarding an extension is the most interesting tidbit to me. Perhaps they think he will agree to a below market deal now, say somewhere in the $6 million per range rather than risk playing out the year.

Rio is a guy to me who has a real chance to get paid next year by a team that hoarded cap space but struck out on the top guys

If I were the Heat, I would look at Sharknado as a member of the roster. From there, I would look to continue my relationship with Ian Clark, James Ennis, Eric Griffin, Cedrick Jackson and possibly D.J. Stephens.

I like this AK47 to Brooklyn deal. I think it's a big plus for the Heat. It kind of rekindles a little bit of xenophobic, Rocky vs. Drago sentiment. And guess who Rocky is, by default.

All that needs to happen now is the Nets challenge the Spurs to an exhibition game and accidentally kill Tim Duncan. Then merchandizing ragnarok begins.

Riley on media call today said no amnesty but will discuss with Arison day before the deadline.

Tried to get perimeter player in 20s with MMLE but no bites. I imagine this was probably a guy like Mayo.

Still interested in Oden but nothing new.

Thinks team will be better than last yr. having Bird full season plus healthier Wade. No desire to break up championship team where all parts are productive in their own way

Knicks summer league starts at 4.
    Shumpert taking PG reps.
CJ Leslies deal is 2 years non guaranteed. Very anxious to see what he does in summer league. Im on record as believing hes going to be a rotation player in the nba.
Jeremy Tyler and Jerome Jordan are among the project bigs on their summer league roster.
And of course Timmy Jr makes his summer league debut

More Riley: Could care less about Nets and he has no plans to react to anything any other team might do.

Said Arison lost millions in 2001-2002 when we were losing implying that we will continue to spend into the tax

I take what some of what Riley says on personnel moves with a grain of salt. Some good bits but he wouldn't come out and say who he is considering using the amnesty on or that they are at all. It could cause a weird relationship with the player if the move is not made.

Pat Riley said they tried to convince Ian Clark to go with them to Las Vegas but he respects Ian's decision to honor his prior commitment to play with Golden State.

    That's too bad.

Also said they made no attempts for Andrew Bynum.

Honestly I see 0% chance of Bynum ever being healthy again. He hasn't responded well to even the best and most advanced treatments as well as having cartilage issues which tend to be lifelong.

Riley once very famously gathered the media to "announce" that he was working on some deals, but they all fell through and that he would stay pat, because he was happy with what he had. The very next day, he traded half the roster and acquired Tim Hardaway.

Most athletes make a bunch of money in the middle part of their career and then accept less money in the later part of their career so they can try and find that elusive championship.

Lebron James wins a bunch of championships in the middle part of his career and then accepts less rings in the later part of his career so that he can...live in Cleveland.

I've watched the fourth quarter of these games a hundred times. Rewound THE SHOT twice as many.

I deleted Game 6 off my DVR because the DVR stopped recording when the original programming slot was done, and I forgot to tell the DVR to record the program after it. If you don't have the final 5 or 6 minutes of the fourth quarter plus overtime, what's the point?

The sad thing is that the technology exists to make DVRs properly record programs that overrun their time slot, but there's not enough demand for the TV companies to adopt it.
