RT @MiamiDolphins: BREAKING: 1st round pick @dionj95 has signed his rookie contract! All drafted players are now signed! Congrats, Dion! Early word is it does include offset language.
As Jesse Agler said in his tweet, it's important to see how his shoulder is now. That's why I didn't see it as a big deal whether he was ready to go tomorrow or in 3-4 days. Hopefully, that shoulder is good to go.
Damn I hope he's more of the next Aldon Smith or Jason Taylor than the next Vernon Gholston. I look forward to him helping Brady up off his back so he doesn't have time to rest.
Dolphins paid more of his guaranteed money up front. So less of the money in the deal is subject to potential offset in the future. Sounds like the Tannehill compromise. I think Dion took control of the negotiations.
Have we actually seen that yet? opps...see it on it on pft, now....sorry http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...ound-pick-dion-jordan-as-training-camp-opens/
And the panic/outrage over the offset language can subside. Great job Ireland/Dawn... And great job Dion...
Aponte is the man got the offset language. Hope more teams follow suit (which it seems it is trickling through)
Well, our front office wasn't gonna budge on a raw QB so I don't think they would of on a D-end, that's the bad news, that their hung up on some language that I don't agree with, but damn, the good news is, we gotta kid that seemingly just wants to play ball..I love a sign like that, he doesn't want to miss one day, he wants to be with his teammates, his humility whether he knows it or not comes thru loud and clear.. He just improved his odds of becoming a great player, sounds to me like the man with exceptional tools wants to go to work..
I can see both sides of the argument...you traded up for the guy, so you should have complete confidence that he won't become a total bust worthy of cutting before his deal ends, which sort of negates the need for any offsets....on the other hand you gotta take all necessary precautions when Ireland's drafting lol.
Welcome to a winning team Mr Jordan. The best Defensive player of the Draft is now officially a Phin. Happy? Damn right.
LB, unless you're pushing Social Security as hard as I am, I have probably seen more sure-fire Can't Miss First Round Draft pick turn into wobbling turkeys right before our eyes to make up a pretty good roster for a Div. II NCAA football team than you have. EVERY team takes all necessary precautions, and they don't always work out. Even Bobby Beathard drafted Ryan Leaf. Peace! Out!
Ireland is performing the role of of an administrator in this situation.Dawn Aponte is the one person deserving the credit for setting the trend in the NFL for offset language inserted in rookie contracts for early round picks. That alone qualifies her for the newly vacant CEO position IMO.
"Speed and plays" written all over it dj. Speed and plays. River Jordan is gonna run and run. and yes our uni is Sick! Always liked it. Looks pretty good on our #1 draft pick. I wont compare that pic to anyone. Sure some ppl have beat me to it.
He will be. The kid is driven, and a leader. There's just no way an intelligent & driven physical freak with leadership ability, fails.
so wouldn't this kind of negate the need for such language if the majority of the guaranteed money is in the first couple of years? I can see it now, yea we have the language in the contract but by the time we get to the point we may want to cut him we have already payed him the money the language is supposed to protect... lol
