He kind of looks like an old Brett Favre there. could be a fun year . Dolphins are up. Jets are a circus. and the Giants fan in me loves the Cowboys heading towards 6-10.

Thats fine to discuss, but it seems 50% of the posts end up about Omar Kelly or Armando Salguero being biased, etc.

When reading the camp reports I do my best not to get too worked up about most that is written. The Offense is working on things that are different than the Defense is working on. The QB may be working on certain passes, the O-Line on certain combinations, the D on blitz combo's and DB rotations. Even the pre-season game there are scenarios the coaches are wanting to see that may not work out strategically against the opposition, but gives them certain information. We are oblivious to that.

Our DJ? I'm pretty sure if our DJ is in the stands watching all those symmetrical builds, he's got the towel in his lap. ;)

Ironic I hope, or you're spinning so much you may take off like a helicopter.

The two things I care most about are Martin's performance and Tannehill's performance. This team goes as far as those two allow.

Thus far Martin has sounded like Vernon has given him a lot of trouble. I've heard good and bad about Tannehill's performances, perhaps slightly more bad than good if you include OTAs.

Here's hoping both things improve by September.

No matter who is reporting, or the details of what's happening on the field, training camp is paradoxical. A team is playing against itself. An occurrence is a positive and a negative at the same time. If Tannehill completes a pass it is a negative for someone on the defense; somebody didn't make a play. If a pass is intercepted then some offensive player didn't make a play no matter who was at fault, and some defensive player did. So it is difficult to be emotionally vested in anything taking place at camp. I think we want spirited play, and we want those players we have high expectations for to be making a lot of plays both on offense and defense. However it is also great when an unexpected player develops. Things improve a lot when preseason starts because then the team isn't playing against itself, but of course the games don't count.

Alejandro something from Phinsider also praised RT. I wouldn't even say everybody said RT has struggled. My impression was that he had great passes mixed in with poor passes, basically mixed.

Does anyone else find tweets like this slimey? Am I the only one?

It's like Pete Prisco is advertising how he complimented a player, while figuring out a way to obviously compliment himself.

    The translation to me is:

    Philbin's recap of today.

One of the most refreshing things is that he talks about how they've placed an emphasis on 3rd downs. It was big in OTAs/mini-camp, and they're re-introducing it in training camp. Said that the team run defense period was good - sounds like the run defense shut down our O today. Said he was glad that they had some takeaways in there as well.

I think it's night and day in terms of how this staff operates compared to Tony Sparano's staff. Sparano spent hours upon hours studying film and could never seem to make heads or tails of how to fix problems. It sounds like Philbin's staff has a pretty good idea of what their strengths and weaknesses were from 2012 to this year, and they've placed a big emphasis on improving specific areas - stripping the ball, getting faster players, focusing on 3rd down offense, situation football. I know Tony et al focused on chunk plays, but...

I'll just sum up my thoughts; I'm glad we have Joe Philbin and his staff. He's more "admiral" than "battleship captain" to me.

I think it's hard to envision a guy getting used vs the starters to getting cut unless there is a massive discrepancy between practice and play. All those guys are getting snaps because they're playing similarly, I'd wager. They're not throwing Egnew a bone, but they've got three different rotation-quality tight ends with different skill sets/sub-positions.

All thing I can add is Thigpen got a lot of work fielding punts today, would really like to see him win that job fulltime.

Your boy Thigpen looked jacked padre. I honestly didnt even recognize him. Kept writing #34 on plays where he got the ball b/c I didn’t even realize it was him. Looked like the body of a legit RB… not some RB/WR tweener.

I wouldn't pay much attention to this week anyway. First week of training camp is always kinda ugly. These guys haven't played with pads on in months.

I think Thigpen is one of the most intriguing players going into this season, he himself said his goal is to be the starting RB. While I don't think he supplants Miller on the depth chart I definitely think we underutilized him last season and would like to see him get more touches

Last year Reggie Bush said he was aiming for the rushing title, our standards are going down!!! I do think Lamar has a better season than Reggie did last year though

Agree, and I should correct myself, not all of the TE's have played with the starting unit. I don't think I've heard of Kyle Miller or Jeron Mastrud with the starters yet, I'd say they're more on the fringe than the other guys. Also, Lane AND Rodriguez are at risk here, especially if the staff is using TE's more often on running plays. If Charles Clay proves more than capable in that facet he could easily take both of their roster spots. I'd wager the competition is more along the lines of Clay vs. Rodriguez.

Key yr for him FN, a pure return only guy is going to grow increasingly rare in the league.

Hopefully he still has his quicks.

I think he makes it. I think it's more about finding him a niche in the offense to make him more valuable. He's damn good as a straight-up returner. But, if you can carve out a Kevin Faulk or even a J.R. Redmond type of role for him, for my money, it'd be tough to cut him.
