That should be interesting. Glazer is one of the few national media types that is actually worth a good god damn.
First, he's got mobility at 315 that Jerry doesn't have, even at 335. Second, he can pull and hit. Third, he went to Hollywood Hills High. I'm starting the Samuda fan club. Little is my idea of an archetypal guard, and Samuda is closer to that archetype than Jerry is. Not saying he's Little. But he has a better chance of doing a creditable imitation than Jerry does.
Why is it hyperbole to point out that Sturgis is clearly behind Carp right now? It's objectively true based on how many misses each have. Is the all caps that disturbing?
Part is the caps, but more so is just the minute by minute nature of the update. He missed one FG and it means everything or even so much? I think there's just a disconnect with his reports and the reality that there are things you don't see in the bubble and a great deal left to happen. I just prefer the reporters who editorialize less.I find them more credible.
He would have more pulling ability than Jerry if he were to gain 20 lbs and end up the same weight. I heard the Dolphins signed him UDFA so I took a look at his regional Combine footage and then I watched as much UMass footage as I could find. He stood out as clearly among the top three UDFA signings with Derrick Shelby and Jonas Gray being the other two. What I liked about Samuda is that physically, he had it all. I don't remember a guard in a Miami uniform having that pure combination of power and maneuverability since Donald Thomas, although I suppose on paper you'd have to say that Richie Incognito does since we all know he's powerful and he ran real fast coming out of college. I would just say that the maneuverability has a habit of not showing up on the field. Doesn't mean Samuda will be a great lineman. After all, Donald Thomas ended up cut and he's bounced around a bit. But he does have that pure combination of power and mobility, IMO.
Keep in mind that for kickers, the competition likely started in mini camps. They don't need pads or a live rush for their kicks to count. Everything I had read coming out of camps and OTAs suggested that Sturgis was actually ahead of Carpenter. I think there's no denying that Carpenter has hit more kicks in the four days of training camp but that doesn't mean he's ahead period.
That was a dirty blind side hit Sapp put on Cliffton that wasn't even near the play of action. He was a real low life that night.
Welp, NFL.com tapping into the blOmar tweets: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap10...-wallace-backlash-quietly-begins-for-dolphins Par for the course, I guess.
Burden is probably the 11th OL, but Lance Louis is still rehabbing the knee. He'd be the usual 2nd team RG.
http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-netwo...phins-play-by-play-breakdown-at-training-camp Good video of team practice narrated by Warren Sapp.
so gregg rosenthal is calling out OK , you could make a case omar got what he wanted....attention http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap10...mike-wallace-backlash-quietly-starts-in-miami
its an intersting idea, maybe only because they switched everybody around today, would like him to get a shot at it though, his little footage looks good
Really don't like hearing how Sturgis is not doing as well as Carpenter. While it sounds like Carp has been money, and I'll be ecstatic if he keeps it up assuming he wins the job, I really hope we didn't throw away a 5th round pick on a kicker that we don't even use.
Absolutely. Omar's piece was full of stuff he knew was going to get him negative attention from the fan base for putting it out there. I think he knew that, I think he didn't mind as long as it's Attention with a capital A, and I think he's getting that Attention with a capital A. But a lot of that is building in the assumption of an irrational fan base having a reaction to what is really, when you boil it down, a surprisingly rational piece. Probably the most borderline thing he put in there was asserting that at this point we can tell that either Brent Grimes has fully regained Pro Bowl form, or Mike Wallace is overpaid. Either could be true, or both could be true, or neither could be true. We don't know. It's four days into training camp. It's not exacly a bold assertion to say one or the other is true, I just don't agree with it. Gregg Rosenthal's reaction piece was a pure hit job disguised to not look like a hit job. The Rotoworld crew have it out for Omar big time. I happen to know that for a fact as I've heard it straight from one of them who I'm friendly with. I don't particularly care, Omar has earned his enemies over the years, but that's just an objective fact. The piece in question was a set of observations (Wallace not dominating yet) accompanied by an allegory of past experience (Brandon Marshall dominating immediately) and followed by literally about 75 percent of the article devoted to reasons why the above probably do not matter a lick. It's textbook content generation at a time when there's not much to talk about, and I have no real idea what's wrong with it. It would be one thing if it were purely a troll job and all he did was just throw out those observations that Wallace hasn't done much yet...and left it at that. But he literally spent like 75 percent of the article explaining that A) some players don't turn on the next gear until they get into game situations and indeed there are indications Wallace isn't running at full speed, B) you could argue that Wallace's position and role in the passing offense lends itself to not doing this during practice in the first place, C) he could just be having a hard time against a guy that has legitimate Pro Bowl talent, and D) the obvious that it's early and you need QB-WR chemistry to develop before things start looking deadly. So you could argue that was an extremely balanced piece. Meanwhile, Rosenthal's piece wasn't even close to balanced. Not even close. Straight up hit job.
I'm not getting the hit job on Omar. I'm also cool with Omar writing whatever he wants, as long as his facts are accurate. Is it true there have been NO deep passes to Wallace? I thought they've connected a few times.
Yes there have been. That's the problem with Omar's stuff, its just flat out inaccurate half the time. Besides, what does that jackass know about receivers? Nothing if last year is any indication.
Honestly I'm okay with not having Swope in particular, he's having concussion issues, and with all the A&M connections we have on this team, if we really thought he was going to be good I think we would have had him
"Top performers Phins practice No. 4: 1. Samuda (call up to starting RG); 2. Jared Odrick (tons of pressure). 3. Vaughn Martin (2nd good day) Omar.. You go dick head.. See what I did with that?? Not funny? Either way, I'm rooting for that guy..his college reps were very impressive, division two school though so it's tough.
That's what I'm saying. Omar wants to see a 99 yard pass before he'll admit they've connected deep. That is flat out douchey. Having a contrarian opinion is fine. Flat out lying to support it is douche status.
I just had to reread that...If Dion Jordan does have this personality that were starting to see glimpses of, (just wants to be a football player, no ego it seems, one of the guys) and it's genuine, his physical potential combined with wake showing him how to work on and off...omgoodness...somebody slap me.
I didnt think we had to go kicker in the draft, was willing to stick with Carp because I know all kickers have their little slumps.. One thing that did suprise me was Carpenters stats last year, they were very average.
Well the issue as I see it is that he doesn't need to be accurate. He is probably better off by NOT being accurate. That way whatever he says can be picked up by an NFL.com writer, formerly of PFT to talk about him. It all feeds the content generating, link baiting machine of the media. He may be a secret genius.
Life of a Miami Dolphins Training Camp Follower: Day 4. We're still *****ing about Omar Kelly. It's amazing how we talk more about his flaws than the team itself. Thankfully tomorrow is an off day so we MIGHT spend more time talking about the team. But probably not.
In regards to Marshall dominating right out of the gates, who was our best CB? 2nd year Sean Smith or Vontae? While both flashed at times, neither seemed all that consistent (especially in camp, though I could be mis-remembering), and neither have played up to Grimes best level at their best. Additionally, I don't think Wallace is as good a WR as Marshall, and both have a different styles to their game. I think one is far more conducive to looking "dominant" whereas the end result (yardage and TDs at least) may be similar.
