Well, I guess at first glance, I'm more of the historian type than any of the others. I was a TC ball boy in 1968-70...I attended at least 5-7 days of every TC until 2000 when I moved away from SFL. There isn't a better coach...ever...than Don Shula. For several years back in the 90's, my screen name was Wahoo...(you have to be old to know that name, he wasn't a great player, but I loved the name). On the other hand, I have a splash of the Zombie, the Jaded and the Coach as well. I don't think any of us are simply one type...
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. This is me: The Party guy This guy uses Sundays as an excuse to Eat, Drink, sweat his fantasy team, and oh..yes, the Dolphins as well. This guy has been jaded from so many years of disappointment, so he takes a wait and see attitude, although he really, really, really cares during the game.
Yeah see that's like 90% Indifferent with the other 10% being a Noob that you've locked in the closet and only let out for exercise for a few short moments during a few short hours once a week.
I started out a Noob and grew into a Zombie. Then I learned more of the game and became a Coach. Some time later, I also became a Boyfriend, who had a Girlfriend. When Saban left for Alabama, not long after I wrote a sarcastic piece making fun of Alabama for thinking they were going to rob an NFL team of their head coach, I was quickly flipped into Jaded territory, with Cam Cameron plunging me there even further. True to the author's Jaded archetype description, I also had other things going on, not least of which was revocation of Boyfriend status. The removal and subsequent re-application of Boyfriend status took me from Jaded to Indifferent, and I have been there ever since. On a few occasions, I let the Noob out of the closet for a little sunlight and exercise. One day, I will graduate from Indifferent to Historian. The journey of fandom.
Dont think I fit any of these stereotypes. I'd like to think of myself as more of a Zen Dolphin fan. Try and live in the moment. I rarely dwell on the past, and never create any type of expectations.
They forgot one. Beyond Historian.. Ambivalently hopeful oulde phaaahrttttttt!* (*because they last longer when you get old!) (**Not the wimmen!) Knows that what goes around, comes around, eventually.... as in.. Remembers when Detroit counted in the league. Watched the "Alley Oop". Quarterbacks had one bar on the helmet, and didn't wear chin straps. Quarterbacks also had beer bellies... not just linemen. Thought Y.A. Tittle was a great name for a QB. What in the hell is a sidewinder kicker? Baltimore & Cleveland & Pittsburg were in the NFL! Remembers Wahoo wrestling on Sat. afternoon Championship Wrestling announced by Gordon Solie because the AFL wasn't! Knows that WQAM really needs Rick Shaw and "Good Night, My Love" to close the evening and go of the air at 12:00 AM! Just hopes that the Lombardi gets back to Miami before it's time for the dirt nap!
I'm a hipster pats fan. I was a pats fan before it was cool. Good article. I see many of these in you-uns. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
To extend the metaphor, buddhist philosophy supposes we are all engaged in the art of a life of suffering and discomfort.. the art is in how we are within that pain and discomfort. So this means you are blissing out amidst the pain, struggle and hardship concomitant to Dolphins fandom?
Actually, it made me think of the time a couple of us urinated on an electric fence. We were making some of the same motions for a while!
Very good and the author is right when he says we're all guilty of one form or another of type of fan. I'm ashamed to say, but lately I've fallen into the Jaded category. This board is 90% zombies, but that's a good thing! Unless we're talking about Jeff Ireland ...
Where do I fall as the "Hope springs eternal" Fan? I absolutely KNOW Ireland drafted the best class ever EVERY year and we're never more than 1 free agent signing away from a Super Bowl, but expect to lose it?
I guess I'm a die hard jaded Dolphins fan. I complain alot about what the team does, especially on Sunday's but I never swear off the team. I don't know, I guess there has been a lot to complain about.
I'm only indifferent fan because it's the only way I could avoid becoming jaded fan. I can't believe I even bothered to respond to this anyway.
9 or 10 should be "Jaded Zombie" because deep down, that's what most of us are. "Psyched to see Tannehill this year!" Then the Jets game "Christ he looks like Henne."
