These two kids have some skill. They are both defensive ends, undrafted and unheralded. Okpalaugo, from Fresno St, has some height and spin moves. Onyenekwu has some strong push right up the gut. I think these two are a couple to look at when games start in the preseason. Might be candidates for practice squad with such a deep line.
How can you not cheer for a udfa from Louisiana Lafeyette? Tough path to make the roster, not really certain we carry DE's on the practice roster either.
I pity the commentator that has to call that one the first time the two of them get together on a tackle...
I mentioned Onyenekwu when we signed him, being that I am originally from Lafayette myself. Always good to see a Ragin Cajun do well. I kept up with him at USL and he's going to play in this league. We might be able to hide him away on the PS, but I doubt it. It will depend on how he looks in preseason games. If he plays well, he'll be poached. I really hope we find a way to keep him, but the numbers here are tough. Maybe we can put him on "injury reserve" if he has a hang nail or something.
Pretty sure Barry Jackson mentioned him yesterday. Edit: http://miamiherald.typepad.com/spor...-musings-from-tuesdays-dolphins-practice.html
i think the 'Ragin Cajun' has some solid potential ... and could very well make this team ... tough road - but it is possible; the key is Shelby .... if he can flash and show more than Shelby, i'd be fine with Wake, Jordan, Vernon and Onyenekwu as our DEs ... that's a nice package of relentless pressure ....
I heard a positive statement about him the other day, but not enough since OTAs started to this point.
Mark Hudspeth is a really good coach for the Cajuns. He will likely be mentioned for some bigger school head coach openings in the near future. The Cajuns have the same problems schools like Southern Ms have regarding limited budget and being treated as a stepping stone (Fedora), but they get a lot for what they have.
That was a program that was a Sun Belt doormat, and Hudspeth went in there and has had them competing for the league championship in both seasons he was there. I've been told by those in the know that if Dan Mullen ever leaves Mississippi State, Mark Hudspeth will be the next head coach.
I was aware of Hudspeth's State connections. When USM had openings over the last two years he was never available to them for those obvious reasons (more a lateral move and his preferences). It looks like USM has ongoing Oklahoma St. connections, having hired three offensive coordinators from that school (Bower, Fedora, and Monken).
That is an understatement, but don't underestimate the rookie from Tennessee and the guard from UMASS we all were high on via his training video last year who is Samuda.
