Not at first DJ, thing is he'll be influenced out of plays as the offense will read him and his play recognition is at the baby step phase.

Your probably right, but when I watch him play ball it's just instincts taking over..On occasion when I do see him try to be disciplined he doesn't look like himself, for example, I will say this even though I had him as a blue chip prospect, he's not good at defending the read option, a play that takes discipline.

OK just got back from the scrimmage, had a blast, except I learned one majorly important thing: I will never take my wife to anything even remotely related to football again.:angry: we may not have sex again for a month! (well, a week anyway?)

Beyond that, so much has been well stated here and Naty's report will make this look really bad, so I don't have but a few opinions to offer:

Our defense looks killer, I can't wait to see the first string play Romo Sunday. Dion Jordan looks like he can be the real deal. Several "bubble" (I think) CB's made some nice plays, I thought Will Davis in particular stood out though I am pretty sure he was playing with the third string, second at best.

If you get midfield seats at a scrimmage like this it is very hard to pick up players numbers. :pity:

McNutt stood out to me with a few very decent catches, but had a drop that made him look poor. Egnew made some nice catches, had a couple stupid drops, but I didn't see him line up and block, or if so I didn't pick it up, so don't know how that part of his game is coming. we know he can catch from his days at Mizzou (my alma mater BTW).

Tannehill has a seriously accurate arm and is dramatically improved over last season, what I remember, as to checking down to find the open receiver and zip the ball where they should be able to catch it. Very thrilled with what I saw from Tanny, f*** Omar, the sacks were NOT in any way 17's fault. and what in heck do sacks tonight have to do with Tanny's ability to make good throws?

And thank god Matt Moore decided to stay our backup QB, he could start for at least a dozen teams in the NFl IMVHO. We definitely have the best backup QB in the NFL!

Saw some decent running from all three RB's I care about: Miller, Thomas and Gillislee, Jonas Gray had some very nice runs as well. Thomas and Miller didn't do much dancing in the backfield IMO, pretty downhill most plays.

The BAD: our OL scares the heck out of me, way overmatched by the DL no matter which string was in there. Awful lot of sacks tonight, so D looked very good in that respect, OL not so much! I must say this about the OL, as bad as I felt they were in pass protection, they were opposingly decent at opening up running lanes for almost every RB tonight.

Didn't get to see as much as I hoped out of Wallace, but you can see the dude is FAST. Also would have liked to see Hartline get open a little more, but I'm like the worst person to offer an opinion there, was scrambling all night to see who was covering which WR. I'm 90% blind in my right eye so as I mentioned very hard to read player's numbers and I was more focused on the offense than the CB's and Safety's.

Our DL and frankly I think that means all 7 guys: Soliai, Odrick, Starks, Wake, Jordan, Vernon & Martin, IMO will rank top #1-2 in the NFL this season (JMHO). And I would not be surprised to see this team lead the league in sacks.

Ellerbe, Wheeler and Misi all look solid, played fast, liked what I saw out of Spitler too. Pretty impressed with our LB's.

Can't give off names but the CB's and Safety's played well for the most part, though a few of them got burned a couple times and somebody seriously blew an assignment or fell down when Miller practically waltzed into the end zone. Though I don't want to take anything away from Lamar as he payed fast tonight.

Liked what I saw from Thomas at RB too, as well as Gillislee and Jonas Gray. I like our stable of RB's.

Assume Sturgis is injured? Never saw him anywhere but on the sideline, even in warm ups. That being said I don't think Carpenter helped his own cause tonight very much. But oh thank heaven for Brandon Fields! I know this is not a good example because there was no rush on this particular kick I need to mention, but Fields kicked a punt from the 20 that hit at their 15 & came to a rolling stop on the 1 foot line!

My wife's best lines of the night: "which one is the really cute guy that has the gorgeous wife you drool over?" (Tanny/wife-OMG! of course). And: (remember my wife is a highly trained prima ballerina who ran her own dance studio for 25 years with 350+ students and 7 teachers but Jacqui is extremely strong legged and an incredible dancer in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, and has choreographed over 80 musicals in her life), so comment #2: "the dammed cheerleaders aren't all in step with each other". That was before the scrimmage even started, and I knew then bringing her was a huge mistake. But take heart: I will get my revenge: Jacqui agreed to watch the game on TV with me Sunday vs. Cowboys, the ultimate torture for her that she otherwise only puts up with once a year for the Superbowl and then only for the commercials while she talks incessantly with her sister, mother, and any other person there not interested in the actual game.

Come to think of it what the hell was I thinking? No way I'm letting her watch the game with me this Sunday!

Sorry guys and gals, this is the best I can offer, I am NO FinNasty, that's for sure! Hope I didn't let you down too much Deej.

Hey at my age thankfully that's one of the few things that still works!

Tanny looks GREAT IMO, sharp, arm is accurate as heck and he's definitely better than last season at finding the open receiver. I think he's reading defenses much better too.

And Dion almost gave ME a semi

Omar is a dufus who has no business writing about a subject he knows so very little about, much less getting paid for it. Any fool who actually watched the scrimmage tonight knows 1. the sacks were related only to the OL, 2. Tanny's accuracy and ball placement are the best I've seen in a Dolphins uniform since the great #13 (NOT saying he is Dan's equal), and 3. Tanny put the ball right where the receiver could or should have caught the ball on 85% of his passes or better tonight.

Take whatever Omar writes and you pretty much are assured the opposite is true. I'm no paid writer, but I've been watching football since probably 20+ years before Omar's dad made the mistake of creating him. From being a student and fan of the game for 45+ years, I know when a QB is responsible for a sack and whether he is accurate and can place the ball. Omar obviously does not.

Just a few quick things that stood out to me that may interest some. So much great coverage by you guys that were there too and the tweets. It's a joy to read.

Tannehill's swing pass to Thomas that resulted in a TD was awesome. Tannehill kept his head over to the right side keeping the defense from reading his eyes then turned to the left and threw a spot on catchable ball to Thomas. Thomas looks BIG (in a good way).

On one of Egnews grabs he turned on the burners and he looks very fast! I hope it clicks because the dude can run.

Running backs will not be a problem. All of them were fighting and making plays.

Fans are ready and willing to support this team. I couldn't believe how many were there, especially in comparison to last year. Fans are excited!

Hartline needs to take the weight room a bit more seriously. In all his pictures he looks like some accountant with PriceWaterhouseCoopers that you met during a cruise.

Bootleg film of the scrimmage thanks to CRAZYDOLFAN305 on FinHeaven. The good stuff starts around 3:20 or so. For DJ because I know he'll blow his wad on this footage, there's the Dion Jordan vs. Jon Martin sack at 6:00.

    http://www.finheaven.com/forums/showthread.php?341280-Scrimmage-Footage!

PS: No I'm not going to link the footage directly because I'm not tryin to step on nobody's toes.

Appears the one official sack of Dion Jordan's was probably the least deserving. Tannehill rolled back and away from Dion which created the easy angle for him to just pursue and eventually it was Ryan who just couldn't find an option and ate the sack. Dion seemed to earn the first one against Martin a lot more.

Michael Egnew's drop in the end zone was worse than I could've hoped from the reports that it was behind him. Yeah it was behind him but he was open and he's got to adjust to and come down with that ball. Brandon Gibson's drop in the end zone was worse than that, though.

Not sure I see the rave reviews of Marvin McNutt everyone else does. I was as big a fan of him coming out of college as you'd find but he was 3 catches for 23 yards which isn't all that special and now that I've seen those catches there wasn't much special about them.

Dustin Keller made a really nice play on that touchdown.

Great stuff. There were some who were worried about Dion Jordan being only used in a pass rusher role. At about 16:20, it looks like you have three DL down, with Jordan standing up at the end of the line: Misi, Martin, Soliai, Jordan

Jordan dropped back into coverage and Phillip Wheeler and Reshad Jones blitzed. A little taste of the way they'll run the defense.

Yup. Dropped Dion back, and sent an overload blitz off the other side. Worked well against this OL. I thought some of the players gave it away before the play though so I wonder how well it'll work against heady QBs.

    You'd rather Egnew?

Silver lining, my friend. I'll gladly have Sims help Martin and keep Tanny upright. Besides, Sims will line up next to Clabo more often, I'd think.

I second this request. Davis is one of the guys I'm keenly interested in tracking. I think he's got the ability to be Tracy Porter for us, but has mental kinks to work out in consistency, and physicality/tackling.

That Egnew drop was pretty bad. The pass by Devlin wasn't too far behind him. If Egnew wants to stick he needs to start making those types of catches in his sleep.

Thanks. That was fantastic. Stuff that stuck out:

    - Liked what I saw of Dion. Beat Martin around that corner as Martin simply couldn't get depth fast enough after the kickslide and, maybe this was more the issue, allowed too much space between he and Dion not allowing Martin to get his hands on Dion to push him deep and wide.
    - COntinue to love watching Dion Sims. Even on the Devlin run into the endzone for a TD, Dion was wide open in the back of the endzone for the easy TD if the defender had managed to get to Devlin in time to prevent him walking in. Dion also got push the times I watched him block.
    - Noticed Clabo diving after Wake beat him around the back corner. Love Clabo's effort level in a scrimmage.
    - Couldn't tell wtf was going on at DT or from LG-C-RG
    - Did see Richie pull nicely left on the Lamar Miller TD run. NOt sure it made the difference as Lamar outran the D.
    - Keeston and Odrick getting their assignments mixed up on one stunt, it seemed.
    - Noticed some scissors being run when we go four wide.
    - Clay with a flash. Daniel Thomas with a very nice bit of unnoticed pass protection inside too on that Clay TD pass. Compare that to our other RB Lamar Miller on another play where he totally missed his pass block when Clabo took the outside rusher and Lamar whiffed on the inside rusher. Tannehill had to get the ball out prematurely for an incompletion. Stat sheet would show a Tanny incompletion but that's totally on Miller... meanwhile the play where Daniel Thomas DOES execute his inside block in pass pro gave Tanny the time to complete that TD to Clay. #passblockingmattersforrbs

A shame no Hartline or Wallace.

Honestly, I wish we could practice squad the guy. Or that we had ONE more decent TE and could cut him without a second thought.

Just... blech. I thought he may mentally turn the corner and show up focused and performing this camp.

    Nope.

I think this is being a little too harsh on him. I'm upset at the drop but I certainly don't want to cut him. We're just fans on a message board, so we don't even know if he is or isn't mentally prepared yet. He's done some good things leading up to last night's practice.

First scrimmage. Relax. Doesn't sound like RTIII had a great day either. Defense can get by a lot better on just physical skill at this stage IMO offense requires a bit more team execution and being on the same page at this point.

Drop Egnew, keep J-Train. If it comes to it. Regardless, one of them is going to NE. Wouldn't that suck if one of our TE's ended up helping Brady out of the TE quandry...

Clay looked good, now if he can have some consistency we have another weapon. McNutt was flashing a little IMO. Can't wait for Sunday!

Why are people in a hurry to drop players? We're a week into camp and this was a scrimmage.

I'm not even advocating they drop Daniel Thomas this early and I think folks know how I feel about him. Let it play out.

thanks for the post. looks like the special teams weren't allowed to tackle. I wish the guy shooting the video just captured the jumbotron shots as his angle was too low. Couldn't see over Dion Jordan standing on the sidelines  I'm really rooting for Lee Robinson to make the team. He blowed up Rodriguez.
