What's up my fellow Phins fans!? Boy, do I have some exciting news! I was checking my e-mail not too long ago, when I came across the following E-mail: The Sabercats are my local Arena Football team (For those who don't follow the sport). They have an Open Tryout every year. Last year, I attended, after only having a Month to prepare. Needless to say, the experience was awesome! I believe I was the only one out there that had ZERO prior experience in Football. I'm sure most of the guys didn't like me for that, but I wasn't there for them. After the tryout, I did end up getting a call back. Seems they saw some potential and wanted me in for a Private Workout the next day (Called on a Monday afternoon). Being the Dodo I am, I figured I couldn't miss work on such short notice and informed them we will have to reschedule. That was probably one of the dumbest things i've ever done! After receiving this e-mail, i'm even more pumped than I was going into the first tryout. Just overwhelmed and extremely happy right now, wanted to share with ya'll.
Last year I didn't pay until the day of, which was $75. I think pre-reg is $55. The thing that stood out the most to me was "Our staff has targeted you as a prospect with potential"
The idea that you've been invited to their tryout and they want money from you kind of rubs me the wrong way. I think you should pay it and take your shot its just a pet peeve for me. Good luck and I hope you do well What position do you play?
One thing I always wondered with athletes who are big sport fans play their whole career with their rival. Like let's say growing up Ryan Tannehill was a jet fan but he plays here and has a hof career in Miami, when he retires, can he root for the jets, does he still root for the jets? Look at cam newton, he says he's still a falcon fan. If he plays 10 more years I'm Carolina, as a hof, is he still a falcon fan if he attends a Carolina/falcon game retired
Nice bro. I hope you do really well. I don't like the fact they charge people to try out also. I'd be interested to see how many players who came for an open try out actually make the team. I hope it's not a money grab for the team.
Good luck and just enjoy the moment. These things don't happen but once or twice, work your butt off and try your best, that's all you can do. Enjoy it.
@Shula Guy: Last year, there were more than 150 people that came out. Alot of people came from out of town too. Of course i'm going to work harder this time around. Thanks, I'm normally a DT but i've tried experimenting with the O-Line since last Tryout. @Nappy Roots: I've got the build for Football. 5'11", 255. Just need to make that a solid 250. I'm in better shape now, than I was this time last year, so i'm confident I can really make a good impression.
Haha...I wish! You never know though, Arena Football could just be the first step. Thank you, def gonna be hard work but i'm up for the challenge!
I remember when I got my chance at being a official. I was walking back to the locker room after working a preseason game and a league official came up to me and informed me that they are going to use me during the season. I was so stoked and felt like a child in a candy store. This was my only chance to make it, there wasn't going to be a next year. Good luck and again, enjoy the moment!!
Best advice I got... Don't worry about the rules too much, get the basic and if I made it, I can learn the rules. The advice was "Don't miss any fouls". They wanted to see if I saw the same game they wanted. This won't apply to you, but just make plays, that's what they are looking for.
Good luck to you West. Remember, the body can withstand 10 times what you think it can. Physical exertion is 90% mental and only 10% physical! NEVER GIVE UP! Again, best of luck to you!
Thanks! Will def give it all i got! LOL. One could wonder! They didn't get new Unis last season, so i doubt it! Thanks a bunch Steve! I'm basically up to learn any position. Wherever I'm needed, i'll be there. I was playing football on Saturday and folks were complimenting that i've got shades of a Tight End. I'm planning more on being "Football" Ready as opposed to being primed for any specific position.
