Did you use your speed rush around the corner, or just straight up bull rush him back into the QB?

Course the down side is just going by the tweets he may not have officially let up a sack but he did get driven into Ryan Tannehill causing an incomplete pass and on another play where he actually had Lamar Miller helping him out by chipping Dion's outside shoulder, Martin ended up having to hold Jordan to prevent the sack and was flagged.

So I mean, still not exactly a good day.

Particularly kind of a sick development for Dion Jordan. He's getting reps with the 1's now and the team is even practicing having their backs chip his outside shoulder yet he's still beating Jon Martin bad enough that Martin has to hold him illegally to get the job done. This dude's turning into a beast.

Eh can live with Martin surrendering pressures, not so much just being beaten off of the snap by the UPS guy who was the star on his flag football team.

Sounded like an ugly practice, fatigue probably.

I really expect to see a lot of Pat Devlin in Canton, and the lesser Rb's like Gray, Marshall and some Thigpen.

May be a good idea to see what Thigpen can do all over the field in that one, especially as a receiver.

Thigpen, Egnew, Robinson, Randall, Gray will be the ones I'm looking at in that game.

Damn Muck brings up a good point.

John Jerry may be the team's best right guard AND left tackle.

Remember when he played left tackle in place of Jake Long in 2011? It was against the Bills. He allowed 2 pressures in the game to Spencer Johnson but otherwise PFF game him an even to plus pass block score. The offense scored 30 points that day.

The offense averaged 15 points with Jon Martin at left tackle.

I'm not saying it's actually true that John Jerry is our best right guard and left tackle. I don't think either is true. It's the fact that it's actually arguable, that is sad.

That's right, had forgotten all about JJ playing LT in 2011 and doing decently well.

Thought he played 2-3 games at LT in 2011?

Staff has to be keeping that in mind if he manages to get healthy.

Ah you're right it wasn't just the Buffalo game.

There were three games in all and actually John Jerry statistically did even worse in pass protection than Jon Martin did in his five games at left tackle last year. LOL.

Hmm, seem to recall him doing "okay", add we had Henne and Henning and Sparano and who knows if that is what he can really do over there.

Guard position will look after itself with Incognito, Samuda, Thomas, Garner. Right now Philbin will be wondering if Jerry can multitask.

The offense as a whole did ok. They scored about 24 points a game over the three game stretch and won all three games. But John Jerry didn't really do ok as a left tackle.

And Louis, real question is they'll have to decide if JJ is worth looking at or if he can even get healthy enough to compete over there.

He's a FA this yr IIRC?

    Interesting revelations.

Bill Parcells still has a relationship with Dawn Aponte and still speaks with Tony Sparano, but he no longer speaks to Jeff Ireland. He saw Jeff Ireland's participation in the interview with Jim Harbaugh as a betrayal of Tony Sparano and felt strongly enough about it that he's cut ties with Ireland.

It ties back to things that Parcells talked about with respect to regretting leaving Miami in the condition he left it. He had said that there was a three-way dynamic between Steve Ross, Tony Sparano and Jeff Ireland that he was holding together while he was there, that turned bad as soon as he left. Said all three wanted to leave their mark on the team, understandably...but that they worked against each other.

As Desides said on Twitter, Bill Parcells being mad at someone for betraying someone else is a LOL moment.

More on the Parcells thing, what is interesting about his spat with Jeff Ireland is that earlier he noted that he actually has a high amount of respect for Steve Ross and that he still talks to him from time to time.

So between the trio that Parcells mentioned before that all wanted to make their mark on the team, he seems to be on good terms with Tony Sparano and with Steve Ross...but not with Jeff Ireland.

So essentially Bill Parcells understands why Steve Ross would want to flirt with Jim Harbaugh. What he doesn't understand is why Jeff Ireland went along with it. And Sparano didn't, either.

It was reported that Martin had a decent day and didn't allow a sack. Your comment was that he really didn't have a good day because he was pushed back into the QB on one play and may (there are conflicting reports) have held on another. We know you're not enamored with Martin but talking about how JJ is a better LT than Martin because of a game he played in 2011 doesn't prove any point regarding Martin's ability or lack thereof...

It's a bit too soon to be writing this guy off, but you seem to have chosen to go ahead do that, even when the reports aren't very negative about one practice... I just don't think that any of us can make any affirmations about his progress yet...particularly based on the spotty reports of practices that were mostly in shells to this point...

I know you have more knowledge on film than most of us, certainly more than me. I haven't seen anything on tape yet, save for a bit from the scrimmage that we couldn't really tell much. Even if you just go by the reports we've been getting, it's pretty circumstantial. For all I know, you are right and the guy doesn't belong in a Fins uniform, but geez...can we actually see him in action before we hang him in effigy ??

First off, there are no conflicting reports. There was agreement that Dion Jordan got held and the "conflict" you're talking about was one reporter being unsure whether it was Martin that held or someone else because he didn't see it. The other reporter was sure. That's not "conflict".

Second, Muck tweeted out that it's possible that John Jerry is the team's best right guard on roster and its best left tackle. I only posted it because it was a neat point of perspective, that we've got so many question marks at two positions on the OL that one guy who is not a very good football player may be the best at both of those positions. I even said straight up that I don't think it's true on either count. Straight up.

Listen, if you don't like details, don't pay attention to them. That's fine. Nobody's asking you to read my post which offered details that are left out by a vague (very tongue-in-cheek) statement made by a beat reporter that Jon Martin didn't let up a sack today.

I don't see why it's necessary for you to respond to a simple sharing of details just so you can be all hateful about it. Just let it go.

My mistake. Louis IFhealthy is another rock at Guard. Louis isn't going to let too many ppl down if he's come back from that injury. It's a big season for Jerry. If he can multi-task and prove he's good to go then he may get re-signed. Suprising how many players suddenly "blossom" when its F/A yr. If JJ cant stay healthy then he will be gone. See Jake Long.

Keep in mind as well, Parcells fielded much of the blame for the poor draft classes whether he was responsible for them or not b/c Ireland would never own up to the ones that did not work out.

When you've been in this game for as long as Parcells legacy matters and having a crap smell on his shoes b/c Ireland was not talking is not exactly a shinning point on the resume'.

Well Ross, ( with help from Carl Peterson ) retained Jeff Ireland while firing Sparano. So who the hell cares what the Tuna thinks..... He obviously didn't care then when he left. Now it's about defending his legacy.

I think what we have to always remember about Dion is his amazing ability to cover ground in short areas, at almost 6'7 his explosiveness relative to his leg length is off the charts, he can literally go 3 yards east, west, north, south, in one leap..

My intent was not be hateful. My intent was to try to understand why some can't let go of the hate they apparently have for anything that Martin does... I will admit I was coming off another thread with more of a Martin-hating theme and may have been influenced by that. I'm not qualified necessarily to argue your points with the detail you usually supply. That wasn't my intent...

I read the same tweets you did and they didn't sound tongue-in-cheek to me...one of the tweets, who's author we don't know if there is an ulterior motive involving Martin, simply said two offensive guys were involved in the penalty and he wasn't sure which one it was called on because he couldn't see it... I'd call that reasonable doubt even if another person (who's agenda we don't know either) tweeted something different about the play. After those two tweets on the play, it gets convoluted as to who shot John on the play. You choose to call the first tweet vague and tongue-in-cheek. I choose to give it a bit more relevance and not condemn Martin for something he may or may not have done. Either way, the guy arguably had a better day yesterday than some of the previous reports and we'll begin to see where he really is come Sunday.

Yet the details of his 'good day' indicate that for a good day, it wasn't really all that good, which in itself is a relevant detail. Certainly better than the sackalypse we heard about the day before, but still not good on an absolute basis.

To me when people are discouraging others from sharing and paying attention to details, that's the sign of agenda. I think everyone being down on Jon Martin has created an agenda to highlight anything good he does and discourage people from talking about the bad details.

When Armando tweeted that Jon Martin didn't let up a sack today and I think he may have said something like that's progress, it sounded very tongue-in-cheek to me.
