Santa Rosa paper notes the 49ers inquired into the services of S Olivea, but his agent replied that he had already agreed to terms with another team he will sign with later in June. http://49ers.pressdemocrat.com/default.asp?item=2206778 We have done so little to backup our OT spots, you would assume we have some sort plan to pickup a vet or claim some one off waivers. I wonder if Olivea is that plan
Which kinda makes him an ideal backup as long as its not a long term injury situation with the starter.
Really? He only missed career game prior to last season (all starts). Was it just last season that he was banged up?
I had suspicions that he may have become involved in the substance abuse program. This makes me even more suspicious.
Hate to make it seem like piling on, but like the other posters, I need some elaboration. The guy missed 3 games last year and 1 in 05. So please revisit this thread and expound on your statement.
http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20080229/news_1s29chargers.html guaranteed money is like poison in the NFL a guy in his contract year plays like Tarzan, gets paid in FA, then turns into Jane. or in this case gets a new deal and then plays like Jane
If we want to get rid of JT for similar reasons, why would we bring Shane Olivea in? Maybe the Jets signed him. They've signed everyone else.
2 things here I wish when people make an idiotic statement about a player they back it up with some merit not the misinformation that one thinks they know. Shane is a good player and we are all right about his only a few games missed. Second... Do the Jets really have anymore money to spend, they just signed Musa Smith as another Rb today.
This was just on local radio out here. They out here on Double XX 1090 liked Shane a lot. They said on the Bill Werdel wire that he has 4 teams interested in his services, and none of those named were Miami.
Free agent Shane Olivea's four-game suspension is reportedly related to a failed test for "illicit drugs." Beat writer Kevin Acee says "those around the (Chargers) have known for some time that Olivea partied himself out of the league." Olivea is only 26, hasn't had any arrests in the NFL, and is reportedly seeking help, so we doubt he's done. A report in May said that Olivea would sign somewhere in June, but it hasn't happened yet. Acee says that team was the Giants. Rotoworld.com
I'd rather get LCB to be honest...but Olivea could be a decent colsolation prize so long as he has a contract that is mostly loaded with incentives.
Yup we didn't know what we were talking about eh? ;p (I said in the club I didn't want him because of injury history and the fact his own GM had called him out for 'losing his fire')
