I don't often agree with Omar, but his article on the over-analysis of Martin today pretty much speaks for my view on him. Too much assessing going on. 6 games in and he has given up 10 sacks and I will reconsider.

Would it be too desperate to go to NWHS and Beg Vernon Carey to come out of retirement? (He is only 32)

So after going back and forth all day, I think I've built up enough courage to comment on this. Here goes:

Guys, all you have to do is follow the logic and you can get the balls to answer this question. We can ALWAYS tell right away whether players are going to work out and Martin just isn't going to in Miami. With his impressive showing in his first action in a pre season game, it's clear Dallas Thomas IS the answer at LT, meaning Martin must be traded. He was seen as a potential 1st round pick two years ago and Calvin Johnson was taken in the 1st round and plays a position the Dolphins could use with the need for a #4 WR. Since the Lions need a LT, this trade makes perfect sense right?

Wow, that wasn't so hard after all. :D

Just off hand, mind you... Looks like someone is trying to light a fire in someone's craw so he/she can sit back and watch a fight!

I could be wrong but I think the OP was just trying to demonstrate how disappointing a pick Martin has been so far by showing how far he has already devalued his 2nd round status.

We should explore trading Jon Martin to SF for Joe Staley, Patrick Willis, Vernon Davis, and Carlos Rogers.

    I think it's a fair trade.

Just say hypothetically, that the Dolphins wanted to move on from Joe Philbin. What coaches would you like to see considered to replace him?? Just hypothetically.

Who has the guts to weigh in on this? Is there any courage on this board?

We should throw in Tannehill too. He threw 3 or 4 picks today in practice. Tossing him in that deal should get us up to a 3rd.. if we're lucky.

Very disappointing but just what I thought; you can count on one hand the posters willing to actually put a number down.

I have seen a hundred trade value threads and no matter how you word it, people just will not go public with what they really believe.

They just attack the thread, ridicule the poster, or make bad jokes.

The thread wasn't about if the Dolphins should consider actually trading Martin, that would be an entirely different topic; it was about the players value.

I included the stupid challenge to try to get a few more actual draft round numbers, but obviously it didn't work. However; cheezy at it was, the proof is in the pudding, only a very few guys stepping out and saying a 4th round value or 6th or 7th maybe. Really! Why are most people so scared of actually just committing to a number?

Alrighty then.........that's 22 crude jokes, a lot of nothing, and 3 or 4 posts weighing in on what kind of value Martin has.

So, now we may possibly know less about what kind of value people really think Martin has than before I posted the thread.

I agree it was a mistake to try find out how fans thought about this issue. I shouldn't have posted the thread.

    Maybe a poll would work?

This is just silly. What is your point? So he doesn't have a high trade value after his first year? One where he had to learn RT and then was moved back to LT because of an injury? What's Tannehill's trade value? What's Olivier Vernon's trade value? I don't think there are too many players in the NFL that have a high trade value after one year in the league. This is silly.

I think Pugs are the most adorable, cutest, sweet dogs there is. My nickname is Tripod, so I can relate to your situation. Guys who need Rottweilers, Big Hog type motorcycles, or a 4WD truck with a lift kit and over sized tires, are all just trying to compensate for having a small dingaling.

Alrighty then, I'd want two 1st rounders for JMart...and a puppy...preferably a Pug. Have I said how adorable Pugs are? They are so adorable. And cuddly. My ***** is large and I drive a moped, but it is the largest model of moped. I ate a grapefruit for breakfast. My favorite WWI aircraft was a Sopwith Camel. Who cannot like a plane with a name like that?
I want to give my adopted son a karma stone. I have some in my pouch. I am not a kangaroo though.

On the Jmart trade thing again--Sorry!!

I would think a lot of high draft round picks would lose a bit of value early on before becoming decent value again later (after 2 to 3 seasons or more). So i really don't see the point in the thread, and i am not attacking the poster just seeing it how it is. It's the sort of thing I would have posted after a night on the cider TBH

In addition, I think there's probably others on this board, like myself, who find the question a bit pointless. A team in desperate need of a LT isn't going to trade Martin before he has a chance to develop more. And if by minute chance they wind up thinking he's a lost cause, the fact that a Tackle needy team would be willing to trade Martin should throw up a big red flag to any other team that's curious and suppress any possible market value, especially when the other team would have to pick up his salary.

But I'm still curious as to why the OP believes it would take "guts" to opine on this. Does Jeff Ireland have a goon squad watching the boards?

Here's the problem: some hypotheticals are SO hypothetical it's kind of pointless to talk about them. First of all, trading a second-year player makes no business sense. Second, if we DID try to do that, we'd get no value, as the fact we're trying to get rid of a 2nd-year player would cast serious doubt on his worth. Third, one year is not enough time to gauge his value to the team that drafted him, much less any OTHER team. And suggesting that anyone NOT giving an answer is gutless is just silly, unnecessary provocation.
