How many times has this happened now, when we doubled up at a position in the draft, and the 2nd one drafted does better? Langford over Merling. Donald Thomas over Shawn Murphy. Hartline over Turner. Smith over Vontae Davis. Any others?
That's what I've been saying all camp. This staff values flexibility, especially at this position. Lane is more of a pure FB. We chose not to sign the best pure FB in the league. Writing is on the wall for Lane, I'd say.
At the same time, Evan Rodriguez and Charles Clay essentially are the same type of player. The coaches seem to like Clay more.
Maybe, but like I said Vontae lost his job to Smith and Marshall in 2012 and then got shipped off, and meanwhile Sean Smith signed the most expensive per year free agent contract amongst all free agent corners this year. Objectively speaking, Smith's got to get the nod. Will that be the case 5 years from now? We don't know.
Hopefully this means most of our players are in good shape to be avoiding serious injury. Nancy *** CBA.
Dallas isn't likely to start. As a 3rd rounder, he is likely to make the team even if he struggles. (See: Egnew, Michael). If he is to be one of the two reserve OL who dress on game days he needs to show a lot of versatility.
Okpalaugo had the sack and forced fumble early in the 3rd, but Onyenekwu botched the recovery attempt.
So far I like that Bumphis character. He looks good for the time he had. I'd like to see more of him in the near future.
100% with ya. I just really hate this part of camp, where the ticky-tack injuries cloud the performance because the starting teams are hodge-podge. I'd like to see him get a bunch of reps vs the full/real 1s. I'm sure we'll get a good look Friday night though...
That was a typo on my part. I meant that to read start in 2014, not this year. I fixed the original post.
Losing his job is still questionable IMO. I know it was a reality for the short term, but Vontae IMO would have started long term. And Vontae wasn't merely shipped off for nothing. They had to think twice when presented with a 2nd. Vontae was hit or miss but he made plays. Smith was........bland as could be. Not really trying to debate, just expressing my thoughts on how that played out. Like you said, only time will tell.
You'll see those regardless of the sales. People mill about out of the sun or just show up late and leave early. It happens at Heat games (even when it's close) and it will happen at Dolphin games.
I bet it was the Wildcat. Reporters aren't allowed to tweet about specific formations or alignments ran in practice... so he probably raced to delete it after realizing he just made a big no no.
Strictly to play devils advocate for a sec... there is a possibility that it could also have been a case where the Colts wanted Vontae and didn't want Smith... or at minimum could have been willing to pay a higher price for Vontae... and if neither of them were in the long term plans, Ireland shipped the one with the greater return. Just throwing a couple scenarios out that could give Vontae the nod. Pay no attention to my signature... it needs updating, lol.
I agree. I thought he looked more athletic, quicker and smoother than Lane. Not sure how I'd rate him compared to Clay though. They seem pretty close in terms of athleticism. Clay obviously has an experience edge so I'd imagine he has the edge overall.
The Pats have Tebow and have been working on specific packages for him. It also may have been to help get our new defenders up to speed on how to defend it.
I was there, it was a slant route and patterson just had better position than gibson. omar again trying to stir the pot.
no, no i checked it again you are right, its a clear sack and a fumble as a result, that of course we didn´t recover
The thing that crossed my mind was that maybe Dave Hyde mistook the Pistol formation for the Wildcat. Didn't the Dolphins say in the offseason that they'd infuse more pistol-formation plays? I could see a reporter mistaking the formations .and then, yeah, the "oops" moment... and Tweet delete. But yeah, it could have been the Wildcat. Just crossed my mind.
This may be obvious to say, but... I love seeing the improved secondary, and not because only does it strengthen our D, but it will also make RT3 better. That alone should increase his accuracy.
Ross is trying to do everything possible to rectify the building, I believe in that guy, I think he'll find a way to get the stadium upgrades done, however, there needs to be a PR campaign about the 12 th man and what that consists of. I would think there are different reasons why people don't think it's important to be in their seats come intros, well, considering our stadium will now lead the NFL in technological services inside the stadium, TELL people that it's now ok to make calls from your seats or social network from your seats like ross did in his presser, but tell them in the same breath you did this so that we could all be in our seats so the atmosphere of the game will improve greatly, which is beneficial to the teams psyche .
Texas A&M players are not gong to be stars because they are so overrated Lane never did anything in college so I bet he is gone soon.
One of the best LT's in Dolphins history went to Texas A&M. Care to guess who? There's also this Von Miller dude that happens to be pretty good...
