Is falsely stating basic things about the game of football smart?
Is that part of his "schtick" to generate clicks?

    I did like Volin.
That said no one has since compared to Edwin Pope.
There will probably never be another reporter like him in Miami either because as some have pointed out, "journalism" today is all about being "Jerry Springer" and not about solid content.

I don't follow Omar Kelly, so I can't really say if he's actually done those things. But it doesn't really matter.

Omar Kelly blocked me last night on Twitter. I called him out because he said talking about QB position was banned. Banned! I tweeted him and basically said I was unfollowing him because I don't follow 'reporters' who pick and choose players to report on. Told him I want info not ego. Clown blocked me AFTER I unfollwed him. He's immature as well as poor in his reports imo.

The average Dolphin fan doesn't know technical football terms... and many are idiots.

He is paid to bring in views and he does a damn good job. People who ***** about him just fuel the fire.

I'd agree with this. The off-season hype is interesting but rather meaningless if he doesn't deliver on it. Living up here in Jets country I recall the media hype about how much better Mark Sanchez was supposed to get between his rookie and sophomore seasons, and while he did improve in some areas of his game he has never significantly improved in a number of key ones.

That's fine and if you choose you can respect him all you want for it.
On the flip side, there are those of us who do understand the game, would like someone in journalism to actually report solid information, educated prognosis opinions, etc. and do not appreciate the Jerry Springer, "shock jock" route that "journalism" has taken. You are trying to educate us on how he creates clicks but we don't need it. We just don't respect it..... at all.

In addition, even if you have figured out that fame as a writer only comes from entertaining the masses and creating clicks by saying outlandish things shouldn't there still be a level of knowledge expected from a so called journalist on the subjects they are covering?

Again, I get what you and Stringer are saying.
That said, It's one thing to realize it and it's another to respect any of it or to value the work of such an individual at all.

Omar has never written or spoken anything that would lead me to believe he has a keen intellect on anything, let alone QB. The only reason I go to sun-sentinel.com is to read the live practice reports, because they are LIVE! Then I can at least glean half the truth of what is happening... Perkins seems much more professional than Omar, and Hyde always seems half-enebriated in his post-game reviews.

Guy is the Bill OReily of the local sports beat.

Tannehill gets sacked because he can't get it out in the two whole seconds that Martin looks like a competent pass blocker.

    Meanwhile, Legedu looked impressive.

    And you can't explain that.

Team fans by their very definition, need conflict. No one would be a fan of the Dolphins if they were the only team in the NFL. There needs to be an active enemy. There's no games going on at the moment, so the enemy is the ridiculous in the media, like Omar or Evans. Guys who provide no rational reasons for the hate or stupidity they spew.

You don't understand the confrontational relationship with guys like Omar, but based on the very definition of team fandom, I don't understand how you cannot have a confrontational relationship with guys like Omar.

Well...I for one am not yet completely sold on Tanny's timeline. I was OK with the draft pick, and was glad to see him start last year, and think he certainly had some bright spots, but he's average to below-average IMHO. High grade athleticism, very strong arm, little too jumpy at check-down and sometimes stares at his target. HOWEVER! I believe the coaches will be able to better scheme around his abilities this year compared to last year. Our receiving upgrades should give us a few games alone. I'm an eternally optimistic person in all things (except the Government) so I honestly believe we will have a MINIMUM of 10 wins this year, and that CAN'T happen w/o significant progress on Tanny's part (even though we were fairly close to 10 wins last year as he was). Losing a game by a missed field goal and winning a game by 10 points are pretty far apart in my opinion, and he's going to need to be the cog in closing that gap. If you're letting your kicker be the deciding factor in whether or not you beat an average team, you're not exactly ON it. I think he'll improve his QB rating by at least 15 points this year, cut down interceptions by a few, and bump TDs by 7 or more, but would that put him close to his ceiling? We'll just have to wait and see. Would've liked to format this a little differently, but I still can't use my enter or return keys on this website for some damn reason, sorry. I wasn't really paying much attention during last year's camp, but how did Tanny do back then compared to now, for those of you who saw/know?

I don't know about y'all but after seeing one preseason game I went on the record and said I wouldn't give up wake for a top ten pick in that years draft.

I totally get that Omar is playing us all and it's working. Where this is different than a Stephen A or Skip Bayless is that I do get a sense that they will wink to the audience that they are aware that they are filling a role and are playing a part. Just like you know what the heel is doing in pro wrestling.

With Omar I don't get that sense. He seems to be so supremely confident in himself in everything he writes and says, he can just dismiss everyone as a "hater." There is no point in arguing with him or pointing something out to him on Twitter. His observational eye is better than yours. You are just a silly fan that can't handle the hard truths

Bashing Omar is easy enough. I'm not interesting in convincing myself he's wrong. We'll see. Tannehill has question marks, despite our enthusiasm. I know that, and ateotd, he's got to prove it on the field. Moving on...

Omar noted what would happen if this team, with our defense, had a QB with an 85 QB rating (Andy Dalton).

I would note, Miami has such a QB on the roster. Matt Moore. Moore posted an 87 QB rating in 12 starts back in 2011. Went 6-6 as a starter. Could of possibly went 8-4 had Miami's defense not collapsed during Tebow appreciation day and the late defensive collapse in NE. OF the 6 starts he lost, Miami lost by 10, 18, 3, 3, 1, 16, and 3. So 4 games by a FG or less... Clearly IMO, Moore can lead Miami to the playoffs in 2013, IMO. But this post isn't about benching Tannehill or anything knee jerk and ridiculous. It's really about unfair expectations for Tannehill.

It's so hard to judge Tannehill because of his inexperience as a QB. I've said before that he needs more than two seasons to be judged. Right now, everyone is putting playoff hopes on his shoulders. It's boom or bust, when it probably shouldn't be. Not only for Tannehill, but for this franchise. People act as if we've went all in or something. We haven't. Team is young, salary cap coffers are full, and the coaching staff is only in year 2. Ryan Tannehill was predicted by quite a few to be an Aaron Rodgers like study, with 2-3 years on the bench, minimum. Instead, Miami named him the starter as a Rookie.

I don't have any issues with that, with the exception of expectations. Perhaps starting him too early (and unfairly building expectations on him) was a double edged sword. He gets experience he desperately needs vs. top competition, but suffers a hungry fanbases expectations. Especially with the other rookies (far more experience) booming and then the FA signings this past off-season. In the "post season stats prediction" thread (or whatever it was called) we had awhile back, people were predicting 25+TDs, 4,000 yards, etc... And here I am thinking, 18 TD's and 12 Int's and 3,500 yards are pushing the limits.

Kid's in a tough spot. Year 3 is the real test IMO. Year 2 is hopeful, but not make or break. At least it shouldn't be, IMO. Check out Josh Freeman in Tampa. Kid struggled hard in year 1. Shot through space year 2. Crashed hard in year 3. Rebounded in year 4. Contract year, year 5.

I'm not sure this fanbase can handle a trajectory that requires any patients. I hope Tannehill has a good year and the fan base doesn't kill him if he struggles.

Matt Moore's fumble problem makes his QB rating look better. He can't string enough completions together to score the points you need against better teams. I like him, but he isn't what the team needs

I think him not knowing one way or the other regarding Tannehill, puts him in the same situation as the majority of Dolphin fans.

Tannehill may indeed end up being a quality long term starting QB in the NFL. He may also end up just being another failure in the Dolphins long search for a true successor to Marino. We will all know a a lot more about the abilities of Tannehill as a starting QB in the NFL after this coming season is complete. Until then, it is merely speculation as to the future of Tannehill as the long term answer at the QB position for the Dolphins.
