Normally when I hear a Mets fan say something like that, they are talking about at least two or three years down the line. Rarely about the season in progress.
I think we can hang around this year, we have two studs in the minors to bring up. But in general I like what we are doing for the future. The starting pitching will be good, the bullpen? I'm not so sure!
The pitching will be scary in 2014ish. We know that Niese, Harvey and Gee can pitch on this level but its 3 studs in the minors with Wheeler, Rafael Montero and Noah Syndergaard. The question is where are the outfield bats? I mean I understand there not being any on the big league team but for a rebuilding team to have none in the minors?
I tend to agree. We have no outfield. Theyre hoping Duda can do at least what he did 2 years ago and go 20/80. Thats fine if the other 2 OF's are ok. Could happen. With Walker and Hultzen on their way for you guys and then Zunino you have a few nice young pieces to go with Felix.
When Buck was with Miami, he did this thing where he was a very terrible baseball player. Apparently with the Mets, he isn't.
He's a 32 year old career .237/.303/.410/.713, it's been only 9 games. Regression is going to be a *****.
Question for Met fans, interested in your answers: would you trade d'Arnad & Wheeler for Giancarlo Stanton?
I'm sure he's had similar 9 game stretches for us. No one would notice though because it's not to start the season.
Two top 20 prospects for a team that is still not going anywhere this year? No. Even if Rafael Montero jumps over Wheeler in the pecking order I still wouldn't. Wheelers star is bright enough that he could be equally as dominant as Harvey. Ditto for Montero but he's been a more recent bloomer so people haven't caught on yet. We need 3 OF's so trading two elite prospects for one OF on a rebuilding team actually sets us back. Also the other name mentioned was CarGo and I wouldn't move those two prospects for him either. Rebuilding means you aren't trading stud prospects for established vets regardless of how young. Stanton is gonna need to be paid soon and I'm not sure CitiField is really his optimal landing spot.
Because I'm bored April 29th to May 7th, 2011: 1.169 OPS June 1st to June 10th, 2011: 1.108 OPS July 5th to July 17th, 2011: 1.008 OPS August 4th to August 18th, 2011: 1.083 OPS August 20th to August 29th, 2011: 1.099 OPS May 5th to May 15th, 2012: 975 OPS August 4th to August 20th, 2012: 1.100 OPS.
Geez, and I thought I had no life looking up random stats and numbers (because who really watches baseball games anymore especially to judge players)....
I think the Marlins would hang up on that one. I would think a package around Profar or Tavares would be more tempting.....
Grand Slam for Buck tonight. Wright went nuts (single-double-triple) 3rbi... Murphy with 3 rbi... 1st time in 23 starts Niese issued 3 walks and first time in 22 starts he didnt make it through 6 IP. Of course it was snowing and the Mets had a 10-2 lead when he was pulled. Harvey tomorrow. Let the legend continue to grow....
Matt Harvey has allowed only six hits with 25 strikeouts in 22 innings so far this season. And according to ESPN stats and info.... ESPN Stats & Info ✔ @ESPNStatsInfo Matt Harvey: 3rd pitcher since end of WWII to open season with 3 straight starts of 7+ IP, 3 H or fewer. Others: Nolan Ryan, Jim Rooker I guess its safe to say hes really good!
Also an update on Rafael Montero: http://metsblog.com/mets-minor-leagues/in-progress-bas-prospect-got-sheet-montero/
d'Arnaud has a broken bone in his foot. It might be time for Met fans to start to worry if he'll ever have a full year without getting hurt.
read it was a broken bone in his toe. No surgery. Rotoworld: Also theyre discussing the promotion of wheeler sooner then later. They realize how terrible Laffey and Hefner are as starters and that they are bullpen guys I think...
Stat of the day: Mets are 7-1 when Niese or Harvey pitch. Mets are 2-7 when anyone else pitches. Thankfully Marcum is due back on Saturday and Laffey got DFA'ed or else I think the entire year might be like this until Wheeler and/or Montero/Fulmer get called up. The rotation depth is terrible to say the least.
You guys think the Mets go after Ellsbury? I know they like him....it is just is the price too much? a draft pick and a big contract....
I don't think they sign any big time FA, I think he goes the A's way, find cheaper scrappy players with an upside and work with the draft. We do have pitching people want, but I would hate to trade it away. Say what you want about Collins, the Mets play for this guy.
Was hoping to catch Harvey in this series, but I'm gonna go watch Mejia take the mound Sunday. Also a bummer to not have Wright in the line up.
I actually do think the Mets will go after some higher priced players because they have over 50M coming off the books this year with Santana, Bay, Frank Fatcisco etc. I do not think Ellsbury will be a target though; I think Sin Soo Choo will be because Alderson will not pay big money for players who are speed based and not power based. Letting Reyes proved that. Reyes plays a premium position and Alderson still wouldnt pay him. Yet Wright he had no qualms about it. I suspect Choo because of his OBP and ability to hit in multiple spots in the order and a trade target like CarGo or Stanton, etc will be in his sights. We have an astounding amount of pitching prospects. And many of them are very highly thought of. Syndergaard will be a target for everyone but I suspect Niese or Gee or Montero will be what Sandy throws out as bait. And youre correct about Collins. We do not have a very talented team but Collins squeezes everything out of them. Hes come a long way from what he was in Anaheim or Houston. Good choices You also get to see Wilmer Flores. Flores has hit at every level and Im hoping the will use him at 2B long term since his offense is a major plus there and he has a lot more pop then Murphy. He fits the Alderson model of plus offense at every position. If Murphy can learn 2B so can he.
Just saying, sandy alderson has been linked to Stanton and CarGo since ST and throughout the year. And we both know the marlins wont want to pay the guy.
