I do like DT, but I don't think he's been anything great so far in his 2 seasons either. But, I don't think he's nearly as bad as some make him out to be. He has shown to be able to get the tough yardage and score some touchdowns. He also really revved up his training in the offseason and now going into his 3rd year I'd really like to see what he can do. He has shown some flashes.

I think Gray had 2 TD and leads the team in yards as well.

Starting D was good....Wake doing his thing, Big Paul being himself, Ellerbe was solid, and good coverage from Marshall. Not going to crown them great as the Jags were without their three best players: Blackmon, Shorts, and MJD.
Tannehill, if given time, is fun to watch.
    Martin looked good against Babin.

Samuda at RG? Umm someone call
    [IMG]

Tannehill could have ran for the 1st down on that 3rd and 1, or was it just me? Needs to get the ball out faster.
    2nd and 3rd D-Line couldn't rush the passer.
    Dion Jordan was invisible.

Not sure how you can say he was "easily" the best running back on the field tonight? I actually just got through watching the game for the second time, and besides the run where Thomas had 9 yards thanks to a wide open hole, and one other 4 yard run - he was tripped for a 2 yard gain basically on a weak leg tackle, and got stuffed on a short yardage situation. The guy hasn't shown anything since he has been here. Yeah a 5 yard scamper here and there, but never breaks a lot of tackles, he is pretty much worthless pushing through a closed gap, and falls down easy. Take away his gifts from the offense line, and he consistently averages 3 yards a carry.

Gray put in some work imo, and he pushes forward through defenders where Thomas doesn't.

Now, Thomas may get the nod because he is more versatile than Gray - but everything I have seen so far, I am looking at Gray as our short yardage back.

Only because Gray had quite a few carries where he did nothing. He did score 2 touchdowns though, but just to my eyes DT seemed to have better runs in less opportunities.

I am a fan of Gray though. Not sure where that leaves Gillislee. I actually like the entire backfield, to be honest.

Yeah. To me, Gray looks like a small wrecking ball rolling in a straight line getting the tough yardage and Thomas looks like a Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man ending up where ever the current takes him.

Tannehill needs to play better. That touchdown throw was a great play from Keller, Tannehill floated up a Canadian goose and Keller made a great play on the dying duck. The offense needs to stay on the field for an entire half in the next game because they have no chemistry with each other.

DT has a good run, it's all the offensive line. DT has a bad run, it's all his fault.

Doesn't make sense. The truth of the matter is this, DT hasn't done a single thing wrong yet. He looks good. He's only carried the ball 8-10 times in the first two games and everyone's out to get him it seems.

Oh and gray didn't even manage 3 yards tonight. He avg. 2.3 yards a carry. Half his carries were against 3rd stringer and lower too.

Just because as Fin D said, Gray is more of that bowling ball powerback who gets the short yardage - I think he gets s spot. He fills a need for the team.

If I am right, that puts Gilli in a battle to beat out Thomas. Not sure who gets the spot, but you might be right - they might just go with the veteran guy.

I will say this, whoever does get cut will get picked up by someone quickly - and it does say something about the guys we have.

Was Jordan going against Joeckel (sp)?

Did Vernon play and if so, how did he look?

And there is HUGE value in a guy that gets the yard ! Gray is carving himself out to be our starting BIG package - short yardage back.

If it were me, I would keep Miler DT and Gray. BOOOOOT the Gator. In another year, perhaps you keep four HB's...I don't think so.

In the end, it's likely 8 Backs and TE's (Typical and what we kept last year). Clay Lane Keller Sims Egnew Miller DT Gray Gilli - Thats one of these guys out.

Clay is versatile and can be played either at FB/TE and can line up anywhere. He has good hands and is a solid blocker.
Lane is a pure blocking FB and since he is the only pure blocking FB on the team, a likely keep.
Keller and Sims I think are keeps, both can catch and block.
Egnew had a big first game and in my mind it will be him or Gilli to get the boot. I see it as these two guys playing off for one spot and while it isn't a direct competition...one of them will go.

It makes sense to boot Egnew and keep Clay as your third TE and back up FB. There has been some down on Lane, perhaps Clay runs with FB and they boot Lane. (I doubt this scenerio)

Say goodbye to Egnew, Gilli, or Clay. Which one would you cut. Would you keep the four HB's and cut Egnew? Would you keep Egnew and Cut the Hybrid Clay? Or would you chop Gilli and Keep Egnew and Clay?

Perhaps you would do something different.

    It's what makes preseason fun.

If it were me....I would BOOT Gilli and Keep Egnew and Clay. You can't have enough trench guys.

Don't knock Gray and his 2.3 yards a carry, he had two goal line runs and played with the 2nd unit line on a team that struggles to put together a first unit. Goal Line backs will always have a down average. Gray is a keeper. I'm not down on DT but it is time for him to put up or move on. He will likely be the spell back again this year and it would be nice to see something from the guy this season when he spells miller.

If DT makes this team, it will be solely on what he has shown this spring because the rest of his resume here in Miami, is, well, Ummm, @$#^%@!

I noticed Vernon had one good rush but Gabbert got the ball out quickly. Vernon's instincts seem to be a lot better this season. IIRC, there was a screen that he read nicely mid-rush.

Jordan didn't do too much from what I remember.

I'd also like to know what the deal with Thigpen is. I assume the return job is his but why is he not getting reps in these games? I understand wanting to give other guys chances to show what they can do but Thigpen should at least be getting a few opportunities.

I was perfectly Ok with keeping Vernon at DE this year and either grabbing Lane Johnson or staying put and taking a Jarvis Jones and keeping the 2nd round pick.

The Dion Jordan pick just didn't make sense for this team. He may be a total superstar, but in my mind he better be a total superstar, otherwise ignoring more pressing needs to cater to the strength of your team, just seems silly.

    That is all.

Not silly at all. You can NEVER have enough pass rush. The more, the merrier in my eyes. And these guys are all extremely athletic and versatile so they can be moved around.

First time on here I have commented on Thomas, and I am going on his entire career, not just this game. He simply doesn't make something out of nothing besides once in a blue moon, and to me, that is how you judge a good back.

What I saw from Gray tonight and last game was a forward push in short yardage situations, where I don't see much of that from Thomas. Small sample, but I'm taking it (along with his size) as an indicator that he has the potential to be a more effective powerback than Thomas.

And you can't throw out the "against the 3rd string" argument, without including that he was running behind the backup line as well.

This team needs a goal line/short yardage back - and I like how Gray looks in that roll right now.

I want to believe he meant to put that ball where only Keller could get it and there was certainly nothing to Keller over the top on that play. For me, his best throw of the night was the perfect ball he threw to Keller on the straight seam. He actually got it out quick and hit Keller perfectly in stride.

He needs work, his reads are way to slow and some of these sacks are because he doesn't make a decision. He needs to get faster on his reads.

You could say this about any player taken in the top 5. If they aren't total superstars, you ****ed up. I was thrilled we went with Jordan over Johnson. It was far more aggressive than Ireland has ever been and it was the kind of move that could make ths good defense great, where as Johnson would have only made our avg offense...more average

In order to beat the Pats you need an elite d-line that can get pressure on Brady without blitzing too much. The Jordan pick was a definite step in the right direction towards winning the AFCE.

Also an elite LT is the most overrated position in sports. I would have been seriously disappointed if we had gone LT in the top 5.

So I guess Joeckel is a RT? I was just reading a Jags board and I heard Wake abused him.

And I think they know what they have in Thigpen. Theyre most likely looking for depth behind him.

We'll agree to disagree. If you wanted the LB/DE - stay put and take Jarvis Jones and keep your 2nd rounder.

I would have prefered Lane Johnson and I am not a proponent that a STRONG offensive line is one of the most overrated positions in sports. I could list more great offensive lines that won Superbowls than teams without. Starting with the 72 - 73 Dolphins who had an unbelievable offensive line.

I hated the Jake Long pick @ 1 because it didn't fit that team the best but Lane Johnson IMO fit this team better than Dion Jordan.

I give Irleand a pass however, I know he thought he had Brandon Albert locked up. :tongue2:

I don't disagree that a strong offensive line is important. However I don't think an elite LT has near the impact as an elite pass rusher has on a game. I also think Martin will prove to be capable this year.

BTW, Egnew isn't just earning a spot on the roster but he's earning regular season playing time as well. Don't think he blew a single blocking assignment all game.

I'd rather Thomas be the number 2 than Gray or Gillislee, anyway. I haven't been that impressed with any so far, although I have yet to see Thomas's carries in the second game, but his potential is higher than Gray's, IMO. He just seems like a power back used on goal line/short yardage situations. I think Thomas can be more. Not that impressed with Gillislee.
