BTW, nice to see the Fins with some (what appears) to be some real WR depth for the first time in like forever.
I'm pulling for Louis to become the starting RG, but, if he doesn't get healthy soon, I can also see him getting cut.
He is not getting cut.. the Fins signed him knowing he was not going to be ready until damn near the start the of the season.
I agree that Bumphis is not fast at all but he plays faster then he is if that makes sense… Tyms just looks ssslllloooowww. Reminded me a little of Orande Gadson… which may not be a bad thing… maybe they keep him as a big redzone target.
I have a REAL hard time believing he is in the dog house. He sounds like a good guy, not the dog house type. I am guessing he nicked something.
All the language coming out of the coaches suggests his job as the backup is secure. However, the same was the case with Legedu Naanee coming out of last year's camp. Bad players tend to look bad, and when they do eventually the coaches have to take them out. So if I insist that Daniel Thomas' job still isn't really secure that's why. I think they're going to keep Jonas Gray on the roster and they want him to play lights out on special teams so that it's easier for them to justify that.
Well, I really doubt that any backup type player(s) job is secure. I mean anything can happen…. I dont think DT is a bad player, I just dont think he is a guy that is going to put the team on his shoulders and carry them to a win either. To me he is just a space filler for right now. TBH, I would rather just keep gray and gillislee and call it a day but I dont see that happening...
IMO opinion the 4 and 5 wrs are not on the team right now. But I agree as of right now Matthews and Bumphis are 4 and 5. Also, I think they carry 4 RBs with Miller, Gray, Thomas, and Gillisie.
Jerry was a decent pass blocker last year, but he was not quick enough to be a good zone run blocker. PFF rated him the 5th worst run blocking G last season. In his 4 or so games as the starting RT last season, Garner graded much better than Jerry did at RG. Back in 2009 when Garner played mainly LG and RG, he graded very well.
The facts are what they are. Until you intimated just now that what I am saying is obvious, I think I am the only person I've seen imply that the Dolphins don't really want a 3rd down back and that may not be the role Daniel Thomas is fighting for.
I really hope Matthews can get on the field and solidify that #4 spot. He has ability to be a starter and also has the size philbin likes in the slot.
I've noticed AJ Francis a couple of times in the preseason games. Really explodes off the LOS. Maybe a run blocking specialist?
I am fairly certain that you are not the only Dolphins fan that sees DT's role on the Fins as something other then a 3rd down back. Just because it hasnt been posted here doesnt mean people dont understand that.
This team is really really.....really insistent that Dallas Thomas is a tackle. Honestly I would have plugged him in at RG day one and let it be. Then shift him to LG next year when Incognito doesn't get re-signed. Clabo has seemed solid so far and we could have bought more time with him at RT. Seems like we will be looking at some really shaky options at both guard spots next year.
So you think Tyms looks slow but you like Bumphis?? Tyms is faster and PLAYS much faster than Bumphis, and has better hands. Bumphis is the one that looks slow to me, and not a little slower but Davone Bess speed.
Per James Walker this afternoon... http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast Sort of a condensed version of the past 4 pages...
John Jerry and Louis being healthy will help this oline. Good news about both of them moving in the right direction.
Agreed. That was the battle we were expecting. Sucks having both injured and unable to compete. Be interesting to see who starts at RG against Houston. Maybe Garner if either aren't available. I've seen enough of Samuda there.
Yes I'm sure that's why I have seen virtually no poster at Finheaven or ThePhins say it, and that's why I have also seen virtually every local media personality refer to Daniel Thomas as the 3rd down back. Surely I'm just the only vocal member of an (ultra) silent majority.
Ugh if John Jerry wins this job at the end of things. That would make both our starting guards FA's after this season and we really should be looking to upgrade RG. Hate to say it but this OL is going to be heavily changed again next year at this rate. Never ending flux.
Yeah I agree. I don't know his play count from the Dallas game to the Jacksonville game, but it seemed like a decrease. Maybe I just missed him on plays?
Dion Jordan only got 7 reps. All indications are whatever injury he suffered, he suffered it in-game.
whether Jerry wins the job or Louis, both of them will be free agents, Clabo too. And we could be looking to replace Martin too, that's maybe 4 new OL next year. but don't worry, if Ireland's still here in 2014, I have full faith in him to fix the OL, I mean his track record speaks for itself.
It was a one year deal. http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/thedailydolphin/2013/04/02/miami-dolphins-sign-g-lance-louis-rehabbing-from-torn-acl-to-prove-it-contract/
Just like I have faith for you to keep beating the dead horse into molecular dust. I'm disregarding Jerry, because I think he eventually will be cut. of the 3 remaining, Clabo, Louis and Martin. Martin, isn't going anywhere. He's either our starting LT or our primary backup at LT/RT. If either Clabo and Louis play well, then we have an option to resign one or both of them. So, while you find any lame excuse to bash Ireland, I can easily look at it and say we can easily bring back all 5 starters on our Oline next year.
