Shady is capitalizing words for emphasis that I never did. Shady is straight up fudging the numbers by pretending Jon Martin had double team help on 4 out of 19 plays knowing that there were 13 pass plays and therefore 6 of the 19 plays aren't really part of this analysis of how often Jon Martin had double team help in pass protection.

Sorry dude. I don't know why this has become a charged issue for you. I'm trying to drop it. Just let it go.

You used those exact words, I capitalized them to demonstrate how much you were exaggerating your point..

FTR..again..yes there were 13 total pass plays, the other 6 run plays he was good,.2 of those pass pays Keller chipped the end on his way to his route , one that was a weak attempt of a chip by the back in his way to a route, and one double team...those are the numbers, and if you think those numbers deserve the tone for which you relayed the message, then I will let it go and let folks think what they want..

I wouldn't be that comfortable with Jake long vs DWare RIGHT NOW. No doubt, in that situation, Long would need help too.

Hey, our first game is cleveland. Think they just let Joe Thomas block Wake 1 on 1 most of the time? I doubt it.

Martin's going to need help. We're going to give it. That being said, RG is a little more concerning. You expect pressure from the outside. Inside? ****.

Doesn't matter with what we are currently seeing. THil is clearly uncomfortable in the pocket. Either the trust is not there or we are headed for a sophomore slump, based on what ive seen so far. Its only the 2nd game of the preseason for the sake of all that is holy. He doesnt have the presence of mind to pull the trigger quick. He doesnt realize nfl-open when he sees it and is majorly lacking anticipation. Take the Keller TD. Watch the film. He should've hit him long before he was in the endzone. Hell, hes taking sacks over dumping off to the RB. Chip, no chip, fish and chips- doesnt matter. When he had his steps, he didn't fire. His 1st instinct is to flee and stellar line plan is not going to change intinct. I hope its happy feet early. You don't run a marathon at full stride. Its only the 2nd game of preseason for the love of all that is holy. And i gotta keep repeating that like a mantra because if not...

I don't think you'll find anyone who would say he is, but for folks that believed in this kids talent coming out, they should feel encouraged that he looks to be improving..man I'm just trying to figure out if he can be good enough to hold his own, live up to his 2nd round status, and not impede Tannehills development..

Well he should have a challenge next game to see where he's at. He'll be responsible for Antonio Smith at times if he lines wide. Solid veteran 3-4 DE. Does Watt flip sides at all or is he strictly like Wake and sticks to one side? Depending on where the TE is lined up he could be facing Whitney Mercilus who had 6 sacks last year at WLB. If Martin can get through this game fairly unscathed....I'll breath a bit easier.

FWIW in this last game for the Texans, the right side pass rushers were Tim Jamison, Brooks Reed, Willie Jefferson, Brian Braman, Daniel Muir, Chris Jones and Keith Browner. No sign of Mercilus or Antonio Smith. Or J.J. Watt.

I'm guessing the Texans held out a lot of their defense in game one. There were a lot of names I didn't even recognize in their box score and a lot of names missing from it.

Wake will be lined up across from Mitchell Schwartz, not Joe Thomas.

19 plays, 13 in pass pro, no pressures given up. His man did get a sack but it was a scrambling situation where the QB changed the angles and put Martin at a disadvantage. Not something I'd normally credit to an OT.

What'd you think of his footwork, technique, etc? Compared with last year, if possible.

IMO 13 snaps vs whatever scrub JAX had at DE is too small a sample to give out kudos but if he's visibly more skilled than before then I think it'd show up.

I think he continues to display two tendencies in this preseason that I dislike. For one he tends to miss with his connection on punches. For another I think he gets too perpendicular to the line of scrimmage. When you're not a particularly huge or particularly fleet-footed or explosive athlete, those kinds of sins can cost you. With his body and his frame he's got to be a real consistent technician to succeed. He's very smooth so he has the makings of that, but he's so inconsistent it doesn't happen, and he doesn't have plus natural abilities to bail him out.

Yup. Martin has disturbingly poor balance, as evidence by Aldon Smith knocking him on his rear last year. He just doesn't look like all that good of an athlete- big and smart, yes. But against top athletes and cagey pass rushers my guess is that Martin will always have problems and need some help with RB/TE chip blocking, etc. I don't see a particularly high upside with Martin, he's just not that good of an athlete from what I've seen. Andre Tippet would have eaten him for lunch, twice a year, if he was 30 years younger. He would have shredded Martin due to his lack of balance, and players who can exploit that, like Aldon Smith, will probably do the same. I don't hate Martin, but as I said I see a limited upside with him.
