Right. At one point, I think he really did care about Jessie. As Walt as evolved, I think there's another reason he wants to protect Jessie (and himself from Jessie). Jessie is the only one who knows real Walt and (kind of) likes him. I remember back during the three way dinner (Walt, Skylar, and Jessie), Jessie's presence allowed Walt to justify himself and the life style he's chosen to Skylar. Jessie validates him in that way. Which, is one reason why he told Jessie it's important that Jessie believes him. Even if Walt knows he's full of ****, Jessie is the moral compass (in a weird way) and Walt doesn't want to believe he's the bad guy. Like everyone else, we all see ourselves as the hero of our own lives. The conclusion to their relationship is going to be intense and heartbreaking no matter how it goes down.
From a physical standpoint? Yes, Hank is done. I doubt he'll land another right hook on Walter. I think you sell Hank short on brains and determination though. He's very good at what he does. No one could of seen Walt coming. As Jessie said in the first season. Straight laced guys don't just up and "break bad." While Heisenberg has likely always existed, Walt never truly let him out of the box, until season 1. Hank is a massive threat to Walter. Even Walter knows it. He knew it all along. Hank has been down and out before. He's currently in shock. But once that shock wears off, and it will, he's coming full speed with a vengeance. Hank's evolution as a detective in the past few seasons was purposeful. His character is meant to give Walt a run for his money. No doubt, Walt will give Hank a run for his too.
Random thoughts from this thread: -Skylar, Marie, and Lydia are really interesting characters and make the show much more rich and complex. People who "hate" or "can't stand" Skylar just don't get it. She's handled all this about as well as anyone could. She's in too deep and her only goal now is to protect her children. -There's no way Walt doesn't die in this show. Impossible. Its just a matter of who he takes down with him. -Hank/Walt....I have no idea how this pans out. But I am at the edge of my seat. -I think Jesse makes it out alive. -A weird prediction: Walt Jr. is hooked on meth. He's been acting weird and NOT EATING BREAKFAST. A nice way for Walt to see the damage he's caused really hit home.
Hmmmm. I'm not so sure about Walt being a sociopath / psychopath. There seems to be too much logic and rationality to his approaches. I do think you're right with the cancer being a catalyst to unleashing Heisenberg. There have been a lot of studies done that examine evil and show that evil is just what happens when normal people are left with an absence of rules. The cancer threw the rules out the window for Walt. But there is something different about Walt because obviously every person with Cancer doesn't really go off the deep end like that.
That's an interesting way of looking at it. I originally interpreted Walt telling Jessie that he needed him to believe that as more of a thread. "If you don't believe me, you're going to end up where Mike is." But I might be wrong in that. Jessie does represent his biggest threat yet he has never seemed to consider killing him. Yet. Maybe Jessie does represent Walt's last link to decency.
I love the Sopranos, one of my favorites all time, but overall I do think Breaking Bad is the better show. Sopranos had a lot of silly episodes that really didn't add much to the show and sometimes took away from it. And I do think it went on too long. Wish they cut out a lot of the fat in Season 6 Part 1 & 2, instead that season felt at first like "crap we have too many episodes and not enough storylines until the end" and then it felt like "crap we need to get to the end but have too much left we want to say". As for The Wire, I think it was hands down the best series ever. The only weak season for me was Season 5 with the newspapers but even then we got a ton of awesome writing and acting. I don't think Breaking Bad is as good but that's just me. And good call on The Shield. I think people really need to go and watch it if they haven't. It's a completely underrated TV with some awesome performances from top to bottom with a last episode that is truly great and ends the series perfectly.
I thought Walt needs him to believe him, because of he doesn't, he feels he will be forced to kill Jesse, and as you mentioned, he has genuine love for Jesse, probably more so than any other person in his life right now, even though he still manipulated that relationship.
I've never hated Lydia. I thought she was an interesting character from her first appearance. Marie, not so much... As for Skylar, most of the hate people have from her comes from before she knew about Walt's empire. She was a total raging ***** in season 1 for no reason. She treated Walt like ****. Not sure what he saw in her, tbh. I would of been happy to divorce her ***.
Great first episode, wasn't too worried that it wouldn't live up to expectation considering the calibre of the show to date, but you never know...can't wait until next week now. I'm going to miss Breaking Bad almost as much as The Wire when it's gone.
Looking forward to the awkward moment on next week's Breaking Bad when Walt asks Hank to open the garage door. -Funny or Die
I am thinking his former partners and/love interest from season 1 ep 1. Who he said lent him the money for the cancer treatement.
I mentioned this in an earlier post but Todd is now a series regular along with Lydia so we will be seeing them more. And I'd be surprised if Ted didn't have a cameo appearance before the series ends.
I think the season should end with Walt's family getting killed and hank helping him out and putting him in witness protection thus starting the first episode of Malcolm in the middle. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
I don't remember, but was Ted's injury permanent? Todd is definitely going to have a big role. They didn't show him learning and trying to perfect Walt's formula all last season for nothing. I have little doubt that Walt left him in charge of cooking for Madrigal. As I mentioned before, since Walt has declined Lydia's offer, she's likely going to attempt to offer the same deal to Jessie, as a method of last resort. From there, I think we all know, Jessie + Todd = fireworks.
There's no way in hell Jesse is going to go near a meth cook. Why would he do that? Certainly not for the money.
Good question about Ted, I think it was permanent, but I honestly can't remember either. EDIT: According to Wikipedia, Ted was "gravely injured and ostensibly disabled".
Did any of you watch Talking Bad on AMC? Vince Gilligan was on and confirmed the notion that Walt needed Jesse to believe him so he (Walt) wouldn't have to kill him Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think it's also safe to assume Jesse does believe Walt poisoned Brock but isn't saying it. Could be wrong but that's the impression I get.
I think Walt will let it slip out. It's too big of a deal just to let it go without mention in my opinion.
Check out this prop bet. Will Walter White Sr. die during final season on #BreakingBad? Yes -260, No +200. It's actually moved to Yes -200, No +160 since being posted.
No is a easy win! I think Will Walter White Sr. will live! now Walter White on the other hand... You would think Vince Gilligan could put all the money he made on this show and put it on No and if he killed off Walt, re-wright and re-shoot the ending and double his money!
I want to open up a breaking bad bar called Breaking Bar and serve a drink called Crystal Blue and when people order Whiskey they will order it on the Minerals or neat.
I missed season 5 because it wasn't on netflix before. So now I am trying to catch up to all. Well this morning about 830 I got up and starting watching it. Episode 3 when they are looking for a new cooking place and they are at the newspaper press. Well the humidity was an easy and when Saul said "Cant you just go down to the costco and get a couple de-humidifiers?" I lost it. for about 30 minutes. Woke my girlfriend up. Hilarious and so perfect.
And please make your chefs cook in an apron and their underwear......or hazard suits. Ok seriously, can I help with this!?
Amazing how fast that went up. My nephew posted that on facebook the next morning. It's hilarious and the whole scene was so great - brilliant how Gilligan made it last so long. Phenomenal stuff. I thought the 1st episode was exceptional. Perfect.
Some friends of mine and I who go to church together want to rename it to "church of the Breaking Badasses"
