@JamesWalkerNFL: #Dolphins guard John Jerry is dressed in full pads. That's a sign of progress. Let's see if he does more work today. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 4
According to Jesse Agler on Twitter, Miami has signed Antwan Applewhite. Jesse Agler @finsjesse 1m Full pads today for Dolphins. Practice indoors (weather) and closed to public. New DE Applewhite #46 it appears.
@ArmandoSalguero John Jerry, Dion Jordan, Randy Starks and TE Kyle Miller are not playing at Houston Saturday, source has told me.
What the hell does that mean lol This Chris Perkins guy is a clown and is Omar Kelly's lil ***** puppet...he's horrible and being taught to be exactly like his puppet master.
@JamesWalkerNFL TE Michael Egnew with a drop over the middle. He's on the bubble. #Dolphins @AdamHBeasley Ellerbe is FAST. Was in the backfield on a running play before it could develop.
@AdamHBeasley Philip Wheeler gimpy getting off the field. Will monitor. @AdamHBeasley Wheeler has his helmet on and not getting looked at by trainers. Good sign. @AdamHBeasley Wheeler back on the field. Carry on.
I think Rishard Matthews got singled out at one point for looking strong in his comeback off the injury. Seems like the blitz packages are giving the OLs trouble still.
Davis still making plays. We've seen him make one in a game as well. I hope it continues. @JamesWalkerNFLWill Davis with another pick. He has to be leading training camp in INTs. #Dolphins
Being that he was a 3-4 OLB in San Diego, I wonder how much of a threat he is to supplant Jason Trusnik and/or Josh Kaddu on the depth chart behind Koa Misi.
I just have to keep reminding myself he's not a great tackler or deep defender...the INTs get me hyped.
I get that, but couldn't you keep him on the roster over one of those two even with Dion Jordan? Clearly he's proven more on the field from a pure defensive standpoint than Kaddu and Trusnik.
Interesting. I was expecting O-line depth. But I guess it's a good move if he can push for a roster spot.
Most of the reporters just noted a play that is so symbolic of the potential strengths and potential pitfalls of the Dolphins offense this year. Ryan Tannehill drops a 61 yard bomb right into Mike Wallace's breadbasket. BUT, prior to getting the ball out, Olivier Vernon had beaten Jonathan Martin for a would-be blind side sack on Tannehill.
Doubtful. He's a late-comer and a career pass rusher. They're going to steer toward the guys that have been here, for those roles. Applewhite is here to rush the passer while Dion Jordan can't...and also in case something bad happens to Jordan (knock on wood). We're a re-aggravated shoulder away from Olivier Vernon or Koa Misi being pass rush specialists for a stretch of games.
My initial reaction on signing Applewhite was why? When we have issues on the oline depth wise... but then I recall that we don't exactly have depth at the linebacker/special teams area. Although as a rush end, I think we're pretty deep if we factor in that one of the O and O brothers makes the team (likely Tristan). And that is probably where Applewhite fits the best.
Kaddu has had a quiet camp no?, haven't read anything about him flashing. Philbin said early on he was guy he was excited to see. Admit I have only seen the Dallas game.
I have my doubts that there are quality Olinemen floating around out there. If there were, they would have been scooped up. Most teams have crappy Oline depth just like us.
FWIW I'm showing Antwan Applewhite in his career has 52 pressures on the QB in 504 pass rush snaps. That includes 25 pressures on 262 pass rush snaps from the right side as both a OLB and DE over the years. Those are actually decent ratios. Most guys are a little bit more efficient from the left side as opposed to the rights so it's not abnormal that he's at a 9.0x ratio on the left and a 10.5x ratio on the right. Like I said, he's a pass rusher and he's here to compete to be that until Dion Jordan comes back, or if Dion Jordan has a setback. He's not a GREAT pass rusher. I don't think there are any available right now. But that's what he's here for, I'm pretty sure.
Ah...back in the day Conu and I went back and forth about Applewhite. He's also a good STer, but is not going to make the roster, he's here to put some good film up for a different team.
If this guy can be that spark plug player, that skillset that we don't really have, which I think he can, we can have four legitimate receivers and not worry if hart or Gibson miss some time.
