Will Davis is being will Davis.. John Jerry is looking better getting some first team drill work. Dion Jordan expects to practice next week, I don't think he reinjured the shoulder...I watched that hit he made on that wildcat play and he laced the freakin wood, it might of been a little sore so they just said no contact..it probabaly needed that kind of hit to test it's stability. Jamar Taylor is practicing..
Interesting that he singled out Kaddu, wonder if he makes the team as a backup.. Eggnog might just get to being Publix quality.. Philbin said Samuda has to get better at lass protection if he's gonna win the job.
Miami Dolphins @MiamiDolphins3h Today's open practice has been cancelled due to inclement weather. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please RT to spread the word.
The way he singled them out though is a dubious honor. Have to remember, think back to when you were a kid and played Little League or whatever. Which kids got the "Most Improved" trophies? Ok then. For some, I expect singling them out that way is a genuine hopeful compliment. For others, it's a little bit Special Olympics-ish.
Speaking of Koa Misi.... I was troubled early on in his career for his tendency to get sucked into the middle of plays leaving the outside uncontained. From what I've seen he has not improved at all at this. Is there something I'm missing? Do our outside LB's have no contain duties at all. I can't see that as being the case. Anyone else notice Misi consistently giving up the corner on runs his way or is it just me?
From what I've seen from Misi, he's improved every year since he was drafted and has become a solid, serviceable, if unspectacular LB who is better against the run than the pass. Im actually pretty comfortable with him as our olb.
Koa Misi is Donnie Spragan. Will never have his name spoken.....good or bad. Which is a good thing. Not a great thing. And not a bad thing.
Misi's name gets spoken all the time. usually it goes, "We could of had Gronk and all we got was a Misi..."
I wonder if the signing of Applewhite makes Vaughn Martin's possible roster spot more tenuous? I understand the signing with both Starks and Martin not able to practice but if the injuries are prolonged we need to find a way to provide depth at the position while not taking too many roster spots. It seems to me Randall is ahead of Martin and would be the third in the rotation at DT. Shelby is more of a LDE and that leaves only the rookies behind the young Vernon at RDE. So maybe Applewhite over Martin?????
I don't see what one would have to do with the other. Different players, different roles, different positions. I mean if rostering Antwan Applewhite becomes necessary because of bad developments with Dion Jordan then they're going to have to figure out how to get Applewhite on the 53 man roster. But that could happen at the expense of any number of players, from Jonas Gray to Michael Egnew, Pat Devlin, Lance Louis, Will Yeatman/Jeff Adams, etc.
I see your point. I was thinking in terms of 8 or 9 Dlinemen but this will likely involve the 50-53rd pplayers on the roster. A similar need to over stock the roster because of lingering injuries may also happen on the Oline. Those last few roster spots will be exciting to watch and hair raising for the players on the bubble. In a separate question, how is it that Applewhite was still "on the "street"? Is there an issue as to injury, character, something else? I would have thought he would have been in someone's camp by now.
Go back and watch the Dallas game. He got sucked in and left the corner exposed a number of times. I did not get to see Jax to tell. Hopefully that was just a bad showing but considering I've noticed this about him consistently since playing with us it seems a bad sign to me.
Dude, preseason. He wasn't even in those games enough as an outside linebacker to even make a ruling. In actual games he does a pretty good job. Especially compared to his rookie season.
I do care. Schemes are scheme. Plus there is always more energy from people who already have made the team than people who have not. It isn't as bad as the probowl, however the intensity is closer to the probowl for starters than it is to an actual game.
Misi looked like a solid starter last season to me... not a superstar but if our worst starting linebacker is Koa Misi then we should be fine.
I've been saying this also, but think we need to make a distinction regarding the deep defender stuff. In the film I saw of Davis, I saw him sometimes run well on the hip of WRs deep. Where I saw the trouble was that he plain guessed wrong, got beat on double moves due to aggression, got left behind if he misread the play (playaction for example)... But if he actually turned and stuck with his man he was not terrible. Just easy to burn mentally, more so than physically. In fact, he is capable of nice PBUs and INTs deep if he hasn't been fooled at the LOS.
Pretty much exactly. However, it won't just be Martin and I think one way or another they find a way to prevent that hole in the OL from being a gusher. He'll solidify his blocking or they'll just give him that much help, etc. Like I said before, we lived through Spencer Folau and won 11 games one year. But what disturbs me is if they do plug him up will the rest of the OL leak more? The 1st quarter of the Jags game did scare me in that they admitted they had like 8 or 9 plays called that either should have or could have gone to Mike Wallace but they couldn't get it to him. That was pass pro. Maybe it's not all centered on Jon Martin sucking but if the rest of the OL leaks a bit too then it'll be the same difference. To get the $60 million man working the way your $60 million had in mind, you've got to protect the QB better. It takes some time to get the ball to him on stuff like dig routes underneath the two deep safety shell.
