Oddly enough, PFF has Martin as our best performing OLmen so far in the preseason.

Personally thought Pouncey has been the best so far.

I've been very pleased with Martin. It looks like he at least wont be a liability this season, and should be able to hold the fort down at that position.

Thats a very positive development IMO...

I watched a little of St. Louis' 2nd preseason game. I wasn't focused on Long per se, but I did notice him chasing an end that had beat him easily. It wasn't a sack b/c Bradford anticipated it, but that was in-spite of Long. I also noticed that Long received help on that deep pass to Givens. My impression was that if Martin was making these same type of plays half the board would be claiming that Martin was a bust.

Also watching the Indy game, Luck is incredible. He wishes he had a line like ours. Luck seems to make three people miss on half of the pass plays before getting the ball off. He has the most incredible feel for the pocket, I've seen since Marino. Except that sometimes he'll take off and run like Elway and other times he'll shrug defenders of like Big Ben.

That "some defensive end" was Clay Matthews, by the way.

I wish the guys beating Jon Martin for a sack or would-be sack was Clay Matthews and not Kyle Wilber and Bryan Braman.

While Matthews also beat Long pretty easily, the guy I was thinking of was #54. I have no idea who that is.

Luck is definitely lucky. A 6th of his passes should have been INTs. Couldn't believe that DB volleyed the ball back up to Hilton in the EZ for a TD.

That's a good comparison. Luck doesn't have the arm of a Marino, Elway or Big Ben (or Tannehill for that matter), but he does have a Peyton level arm, which obviously is more than enough to be very successful.

IIRC he had the 5th highest (out of 39) INT/dropped INT % in the league last year, 4.8% of his throws were picked off or dropped by a defender. He also took the most hits and knockdowns. The Colts had better get him a running game and a better defense if they want him to have Peyton type success and longevity.

Terrific play by Grimes, completely stole the rookie's lunch money. The off man technique will be a key in terms of forcing TO's, it's a technique Sean Smith sucked at and it's why he's gone IMO.

Yep - Grimes showed nice there. I still doubt him being a shut down corner, but I'm starting to believe even coming off the achillies surgery, he can contribute more than any CB we have had in recent years.

It was a nice suprise for me....gotta see more of it.

Grimes had a big boy play there. I always wonder how much Will Davis is paying attention to Brent because he really ought to. It sounds corny to just copy a guy but truly, you want to be the best you do pattern after the best. Brent Grimes carries a football everywhere he goes on the practice field, so Will Davis should think about doing that too.

Yeah, The Grimes pick was awesome. Great positioning and timing. That's what he was supposedly good at and it appears to looking true. If the team can get some more turnovers and improve that all important turnover differential, then that alone should get the team a couple more wins. They probably would have had a couple more wins last season had our DBs been able to catch the dang ball. I hope he stays healthy.

Will Davis should think about taking a 5 yard holding/illegal contact penalty instead of allowing a 40 yard TD pass. I don't mind the over aggressiveness but when he ge's fooled he needs to minimize the damage, or he won't be seeing the field.

One thing I like about Will Davis last game was his tackling of the wide receivers. While making the tackle, he was going for the swatting of the ball. That could lead to a fumble in the future.

I want to say it was Jelani Jenkins who caused that fumble on the punt return. Houston got it back but that's a damn good play by the Rook.

    I don't think Tannehill's arm is much stronger than Luck's...probably a wash.

Seriously? I know you love Tannehill but Luck threw the ball 70 yards into a wind on Pro Day. He has an arm Tannehill doesn't.

Just sayin... arm strength is a check mark for Luck.

Not that it matters b/c they both can make all the throws. But Tannehill does edge out Luck in strictly arm strength. There's a WHOLE lot more to being a great QB than arm strength though.
