Looking ahead to the possibility of visiting in winter of 2014, and would love to attend a Miami Dolphins game. I know it's a while away, but want to research things out. What's the best areas in Florida to stay for a break? Doing a bit of re-search already I see a lot of people saying that driving is the easiest to travel, neither me or my girlfriend, who I'd go with can't drive. Is public transport that bad? If you can't drive what's the best alternative to getting around? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks FinYeltz
To be honest, if your not driving - Taxi is your only alternative. Unless of course you can afford a Limo service. Hotels I can't suggest unless you can give some kind of price range.... if you can go all out, stay in the suites at the Hardrock and you'll alleviate most of your car fees, since there is so much to do at the Hardrock. Also, it is close enough to the stadium that a Taxi will be minimal. If Miami Beach is your thing, then there is every kind of hotel in price from the luxurious and expensive Fountain Bleu to a Holiday Inn. The night life on South Beach is unmatched anywhere else in south florida. In the end, as with all vacations, how much you want to spend influences choice
You have to pardon the ignorance, I have no idea on the geography of Florida. Basically I want a nice beach holiday with good and safe night life in bars etc. But also be within reasonable distance of the Sunlife to catch a Dolphins game. How far is the South Beach from the Sunlife?
Don't go to Ocala. Armpit of Florida. And FinD is trolling around there I can tell you tons of great places around the bay area, but that seems negated by you not wanting to drive, as the drive from there to Miami area is 4+hours
Also how safe will I be visiting the ground as an 'outsider'? I've seen a few stories about violence at the ground.
Hotwire is your friend online, look for a four star in south beach, the ocean, best restaurants, and nightlife all in a small neighborhood..Take some sort of tour service to sunlife if you wanna catch a game, or take a cab to downtown then the metrorail to the stadium.
South beach is nice. Lots of glitz and glamor, land of the beautiful people. If you're young and want to party all night its a great place to stay. Ft Lauderdale beach and Las Olas Boulevard is also very nice, More laid back probably less expensive than South Beach and closer to the stadium.
You will fry in the sun. You don't think you will, but you will. I've yet to see an Englishman not sizzle like bacon in the FL sun, even in the winter. Because of that, wear sunscreen. If you don't you'll be purple and in agony. Other than that, go to the Keys and get a shuttle to take you to the game and back.
Yeah I think that's a good call. Stay as close to key west as you can. Lots of stuff to do there and you can walk most of it. Go snorkeling. South Florida is insanity without someone to take you around IMO Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4
He said he wants beaches and nightlife.. We need some details..how old..whatta you into, and pics of the bird mate.
I'm confused by the words Winter of 2014 and Miami Dolphins game. In my opinion, the winter of 2014 would run from Jan 1st 2014 to March 21st 2014. The last Dolphins home game of the season is against the Jets on December 29th.
Stay in South Beach if you want to party, want the nightlife and the beach rapped up in one. You will have to take a Taxi (or what have you) to get to the Stadium and back. Not sure what the rates are for a ride that's 15/20 minutes away form South Beach, but you can't have everything in the same proximity.
Maybe it's next season? I'll be making my first trip to Miami later this year. I'm staying in Davie, FL.
I just visited SoBe in May. Was at a conference in Orlando and did the drive down for the weekend. Great fun. If you're into it, stay in South Beach. Think Spring Break crowd with a few millionaires sprinkled in. If you stay in the middle you can walk around everywhere. We stayed right by the Clevelander. Only time we needed a car was to visit our friend (he lived east of Davie I think ... I saw the Dolphins training facility from the freeway). Bite the bullet and take a cab to the stadium. As for Winter, even though winter doesn't officially start until January everyone considered Dec as winter, as there is winter break, Thanksgiving, Christmas, NYE etc.
I stayed near South Beach a few nights last year. We stayed at the Grand Beach Hotel. It's a good hotel and it was reasonable for me but I don't know your budget. Booking for winter should get you some discounts if you book a couple of months early. From there we walked to LIV club (Fontainebleau Hotel) and it is one of the best clubs I've been to. It was packed, everyone looked happy, half naked dancers on stage and good DJs. It was too bad my wife had a bit of the flu so we didn't stay long. If I go back I would stay further south near Ocean Drive. That's where all the cafes, shops, bars and restaurants are and you can walk to Lincoln Road Mall. If all you want is the beach and football then stay at south beach and take a cab to the stadium. Our cab driver ripped us off because he knew we we tourists. He kept driving us up and down the same freeway. Tell cab drivers that you are in a hurry. I wanted to get there half an hour early to check out the tailgate parties but when he dropped us off it was already 1pm and I was pissed off. I HIGHLY recommend hiring a car...it's way convenient and cheaper than cabs. You can drive to the Florida Keys for some snorkeling or scuba diving. We stayed in the Keys for a few more days and loved it. You can also take the car to Everglades tourist areas.
Use google maps start by looking up south beach and ocean drive. everyone is friendly at the stadium...it's safe don't worry.
