i have a westinghouse for my den/office...and it has its flaws but it also shines in other areas...

considering i got it 2 or 3 years ago for 999 and its a 37" 1080p LCD....i originally bought a 37" LG 720p LCD for about 1900, kept it a week and saw the westinghouse deal, and took back the LG....haven't looked back

it sucks at handling standard def tv....its just a ****ty picture, i mean its not THAT bad, but it could be better....thank god for directv, as digital channels look great...

also its a great computer monitor, if i was ever so inclined. as a secondary hdtv its great for gaming, hi def sports, blu ray's, etc....wouldn't buy it to be my main living room hdtv though.

I really think you should grab one of the new Sony XBR or Samsung A750 models, maybe one of the new Sharps or Panasonics if you can get a good deal on them. Honestly, the price difference between the budget brands and the regular guys is not that pronounced anymore.

XBRs are amazing, and I agree with the prices not being so pronounced, especially if you can find a place that has 24 (or more) months with 0% interest.

I second that. I just love my XBR.

No offense, but when seeing the title I was hoping for a SI Dr. Z article on how he bought a PS3 to play Madden but couldn't figure it out. Oh well...

Hope you have fun with your new toy Doc. I haven't gotten myself a PS3 yet due to the 360 keeping me busy. That all changed however with the release of MGS4 which is the one thing that the PS3 needed to pick up some speed. I will be getting one now because maybe the library of games will start growing at a steady rate.

As far as TVs go, I have an old 52" RCA HD rear projection that looks just fine with my 360 Premium's component cables. Yeah Yeah....I know I could do better but almost 3 years ago I only paid $598 for it. It is affordable and it looks great. As far as sound goes, let's just say I need to work on that.

Anyway congrats on your purchase Doc and enjoy the ride this year. It's going to be a fun one this year in the console market. Remember too Doc, that just because you own a PS3 doesn't mean you have to be a Sony fanboy. ;) jk

Don't see what this has to do with price point competition at the same size and resolution capabilities. A better comparison would be this 40'' 1080p Sony Bravia with this 42'' 1080p Vizio. While the Sony is 2'' smaller and is a previous-generation model, it has better specifications and more input plugs than the Vizio. (The Vizio isn't exactly brand-new LCD tech, either. That's one reason they can take a few bucks off the price.)

The price difference between those two brands has reduced fairly dramatically compared to even just a year ago. The difference would be less if Walmart offered a 1080p Samsung or Panasonic to compare with; Sony products still carry a slightly higher premium.

Regan, Stitches, glad you guys like your XBR sets. I wanted to grab an XBR6, but backed off at the last minute and went for a Samsung A550. I don't regret the decision, and eagerly await the day when I can get a better set of speakers for this thing.

It was a joke man, relax. Just jumped out at me as I was looking at some Sony models.

Just because I mentioned a Vizio model earlier doesn't mean I think they are on par with Sony and the like. Just mentioning a deal to someone who is looking for one.
