Lets call it a feel good piece..

it would be nice if we have an athlete that still wants to be the best after he got paid..

He reads, he attacks, the more knowledge he gets of offense they better he should become, he can slither thru traffic nicely, anticipates the snap very well, and arrives with a violent nature, susceptible to play action, will find himself in a trailing position at times, and has been said before on this board, the further away from the LOS he gets, the more vulnerable he becomes, I think if we're plakying a scrambling Qb, you have to allow him to blitz and chase cause I think he'll get lost in coverage against those types.

Luke Kuechley is doing it in games. Make it happen when it counts 59.

agreed, he doesn't come across to me as a guy who would talk about out working his opponent and then not do it, that's all I care about in the piece, just put in the extra work and take care of your body.

I think everyone will end up liking Wheeler more then Ellerbe when the season is over.

    And so it is written.

IMO Ellerbe is an elite player moving forward, but he's not great in coverage. On balance though, I still believe he's a top 5 MLB. And while this was a puff piece, I wouldn't characterize Ellerbe's comments and actions as "just talk". IMO there's an obvious difference between somebody just saying they want to be the best and somebody who is working hard to be the best and just tells you his why he's doing it when asked. Somebody always posts something along the lines of "so and so said the same thing". It always surprises me when people can't tell the difference.

Yeah, what a dick, talking about how you have to outwork everyone in practice and then doing just that. He should shut up.

Seriously, I'm trying to get a bead on this insanity that a bunch of people think is all talk.....a player says, "Hi" to a teammate....is that too much talking and he should just shut up and play?

Cause really, in this world, if a guy saying things like talk is cheap and you have to bust your ***, and that's him talking too much, then I really want to live somewhere else.

"A ball comes my way I want to catch it"

    No ****. Who doesnt?

"I want to be the best"

    Cute, so does everyone else.

I mean, I get it....I get hes not going to say anything else. But I am just itching it see it on the field, because we've heard this before.

I don't ever remember JT or ZT coming out saying "I want to be the best" they just did it.

Its an Andy Effing Cohen article for the official site. He is contractually bound to have that interview. You're acting like he's all talk like Rex Ryan.

And FTR, I don't remember JT or ZT saying anything....with a SB ring, either.

Of course they did. They said the same things and they put in the work like Ellerbe's doing. Reality is that all players who were/are among the best say the same thing and they put in the work. It's ridiculous to have an automatic reaction against every player who says they want to be the best b/c you'll exclude the ones who will reach that level. The key is to identify the players who are not just talking, but also putting in the work. In Ellerbe's case, it seems he's putting in the work. And if you watched him last season, he was far and away the best LB on that team (yes, way better than Lewis was last year). In preseason this year Ellerbe has looked very good in his few appearances. He's a guy who is both putting in the work and showing it on the field.

I am not downing Ellerbe personally, I was defending Dion Simms weeks ago for this same thing....I am sick of seeing it on here like its something to look forward to because a guy is talking. I want to see it on the field.

He didnt have to take Tannehill just because we had to take one, the game is to evaluate your qbs no matter the perception, I had us taking Kuechly first for obvious reasons, (dominating potential at middle linebacker, an identity), then Russell in the early 2nd, if Kuechly wasn't available when we picked, I had us trading down picking up something extra, and selecting Wilson..that draft was all about reading how bad most everyone missed on their evaluation of Russell.Wilson..lot of bad GM'n out there that year..Only a few of us here were willing to drop a first on Wilson if we had to..

It's not the player's problem that his goals are things fans have heard others say and been disappointed about before.

He says things that are obvious because they are true. No one should stop saying true things just becuase some people are jaded about them. He shouldn't want the opposite. Like a fat person who says they want to lose wieght.. yes. GOOD. WHy are we criticizing them? Becuase WE have heard it before?

We have not heard this from Ellerbe before. This is like brining the baggage of your ex gf into the new relationship, fellas. Leave it at the door. If you don't believe the new players are any different than our old ones then I guess you are pessimisitic about the team this year. I don't blame you. It's based on the failure of past optimisms.

It's simply sad so many have stopped believing in Santa Claus here. We are getting as bad as Philly fans.

When the Dolphins give us something, anything, to believe in, we will again. See 2008. So much blind homerism and optimism abound. Every week starting with that New England game was so much fun. We were the bad news bears of the NFL. Running crazy formations and barely escaping each week with a win.

We're waiting for the spark to ignite the believe again.

    For me personally...

I think this offseason has done that so far. I think the acquisitions we've made plus the progress from last year has been considerably more progress then we've seen in quite a while.

Why are we not allowed to optimistic about that? Because a team full of different players and different coaches let us down in the past?

Post of the month here! Nothing more to be said IMVHO.

Personally I'm excited about our D and Ellerbe & Wheeler are both a part of that as is how far I think Misi has progressed, also Vernon and Dion both make me tingly about our DL which I believe could be a top two DL in the NFL, which is proven to be the way to beat Brady's Pats.

If anyone wants to criticize me as being a Homer, please, flame away, hope is the only tangible feeling that makes ANY fan look forward to the coming season. And if Ellerbe feels hopeful coming from the Defense he played for (i.e.: he knows what a great D looks and plays like coming from the SB Champion Ravens Defense), then I'm very pleased with that. Now Mr. Ellerbe & Co., go out on the field and back it up, that's all I ask.

    Good thread BTW.

Those are exactly the players I wanted the Dolphins to take with their first two picks in the 2011 draft. Hopefully Tannehill and Ellerbee can end up being as effective with the Dolphins as Luke and Wilson have been with their teams.

I have no problem with Ellerbee or any other player on the Dolphins making positive comments. Yet, I am just like many other fans though, show it on the field with wins instead of losses. It is great that this team and the coaching staff seem to think that they have the players to finally get beyond mediocre.

As a season ticket holder, I hope they are right in their assessment of this years team. I hope they prove me wrong when I predict they will be 7-9 or 8-8 at best. You are correct though, I stopped believing in Santa Claus when I was five years old. After the last decade of having players and coaches on the Dolphins tell us before the season how good they were going to be during the regular season. I stopped believing in preseason comments and I'll await the results on the field.
