What worries me, yet gives some hope simultaneously, is Ireland seems content with Clay, Sims and Egnew to the point no trades happening, or does he see some solid TE candidates likely to hit waivers and even fall to us?

The hopeful part, while extremely dim, is Armando reports Clay, Sims and Egnew all practiced very well this week at TE with the increased reps due to Keller's absence.

3:10 To Yuma, Cape Fear, The Postman Always Rings Twice come to mind for me as remakes that didn't live up to the original.
I'm probably the only person who did like the remake of The Getaway a little better than the 1st. Although to me both were excellent. I also equally like both of True Grit.

After watching Clay, Egnew and Sims last night I now am absolutely certain Ireland MUST make some kind of trade or ick up someone off waivers at TE. We do not have a TE, period. JMHO

Certainly worth a look, though a little concerning that the Ravens - a team with TE injuries of their own - dropped him so fast.

If I remember correctly a few people wanted Tommy Streeter last year, he just got cut by the Ravens. Leonard Pope got cut by Bears too, if you're keeping tabs on the TE's

Cribbs got released by the Raiders and Aromashadu and Zbikowski were also released by the Bears. Those were the bigger names who got cut thus far

I'd love to have Zbikowski for safety depth.

I thought he had like 3 catches for 44 yards and a TD in that game.

And he's yet to be released. Might not be. He's been their #2/#3 TE all preseason.

They also have Scheffler and Michael Williams behind Pettigrew. Will they keep 4 TE? They don't use a 2 back set much so they may keep 4, heck maybe 5?

Michael Williams has been a non-factor this preseason. Even as a run blocker, PFF has a significant negative grade for him. He's only played 40 snaps to Fauria's 103 snaps, and he's caught 1 ball for 6 yards while Fauria has caught 5 balls for 56 yards and a TD.

I don't know if they're keeping 4 or if they're keeping 3, but if they're only keeping 3 then Fauria is that 3rd, not Michael Williams.

If their base formation is 2 WR, 2 TE, and 1 RB, I'd guess it would be 4 minimum TEs on the 53.

I wonder if the Giants will try and re-sign Kenny Phillips? Apparently, Stevie Brown tore his ACL last night, per Schefter.

I could definitely see the Giants pursuing that in the wake of Stevie Brown's injury.

Really feel for Stevie by the way. Was a TREMENDOUS player last year. I'd have definitely considered giving a 2nd round pick on the RFA offer sheet for him.

I'm guessing they'll stand pat with who they have. They were going to be faced with a tough call between Tyler Sash and Cooper Taylor, but now they can keep both as backups behind Ryan Mundy and Antrel Rolle (if they feel like Taylor's health is okay, that is). Will Hill will be back after a few weeks as well; and Terrel Thomas, one of their corners, can play some safety too.

Stevie's an awesome player, but safety is a position at which they could afford an injury. I was hoping it'd work out for us on the waiver wire with one or more of those guys getting cut.

Same goes for the DLine, which I posted about way back at the start of this thread. Marvin Austin was on the outside looking in but has been making plays, giving them like 6 or 7 DTs who are worthy of a spot. They also have to decide between Adrian Tracy and Adewale Ojomo at DE. They're just very deep on the DL, as usual. I'd look for them to move a DT if possible in a trade, maybe for a safety, but more likely for a LB, imo (they are straight terrible at linebacker, wish we had one to dangle).

I'd like to see the Dolphins try and get Phillips to take a 1-year deal. I like Chris Clemons more than most, but at very least they can get some mileage out of 3-safety Nickel packages.

Not the highest on my list of linebackers to take a flier on but at the same time our backups are pretty bad there.

There are a few alums from among my favorites that have been let go.

But the cut that surprises me the most is not a favorites alum. The Carolina Panthers cut DE Louis Nzegwu early despite Louis having an extremely productive preseason. According to PFF he has 3 sacks and 3 hurries on only 22 pass rush snaps. Those are insane efficiency numbers, though a small sample pool. I believe he was the only player that managed to beat the left tackle Matt Tobin that I've been talking about all preseason. PFF has given Louis a very high +5.6 Overall rating for his work this preseason.

The name MAY sound familiar to you because the Dolphins signed him to their practice squad for a spell during the 2012 season, when they promoted Josh Kaddu from the practice squad to the active roster. Given that, it really wouldn't surprise me to see the Dolphins claim Nzegwu and give him a spin this week. There's got to be an opening amongst the defensive ends while they remain unsure on the health of Dion Jordan.
