Jesse Agler @finsjesse 1h Per NFL's transaction wire, no moves today for Dolphins. 6pm deadline tomorrow to get to 53.
Looks pretty good man, some reason I see them keeping McNutt though...maybe in addition to Tyms...lot of three wide outs this year.
That's really good. I only have one different player than you do; Josh Kaddu over Jonathan Freeny. Obviously, I think Miami will acquire some other players, but if they were to stand pat, can't disagree. Nice work.
First post, these are my picks for the 53 man roster. I went heavy on Dline and light on linebackers not because I think this is what the team will do, Iwas just trying to keep the players that I feel played the best. I bolded and underlined players I feel could be replaced by the waver wire. Qb 3- Tannehill, Moore, Devlin– I think Devlin played well enough to earn another year however I wouldn’t be shocked to see him cut. Rb 3- Miller, Thomas, Gillislee– I like Gray better than Gillislee however I think the fact that Gillislee wasdrafted and Gray’s fumble at the end of the Bucs game puts Gillislee ahead. I wouldn’t be shocked to see the dolphins replace him if they can get a good goal line back. Fb 1- Rodriguez- Not a big Rodriguez fan but he’s all we have at the position right now. I wouldn’t be surprised if Miami picks up a tight end and cuts either Rodriguez (moving Clay to fullback) or Egnew. Wr 5- Wallace, Hartline, Gibson, Mathews, Bumphis –Tyms and McNutt are candidates for the final 2 spots but I like the potential of Mathews and Bumphis a little bit more. Te 3- Clay, Simms, Egnew– See fullbacks. Ol 9- Martin, Incoginito, Pouncey, Jerry, Clabo, Samuda, Thomas, Garner, Yeatman – IfI were the Dolphins I would definitely be looking at the backup tackles available. The 3 main backups Samuda,Garner, and Thomas are all better inside. I also think that John Jerry is in a similar position as Lance Louis. If he doesn’t start then he is getting cut ortraded. Right now he’s the starter butif Samuda or Thomas looks better in practice or they find a RG on the market I could see Jerry gone. De 5 - Wake, Vernon,Jordon, Shelby, Okpalaugo – Keeping Okpalugo might shock people and I don’t think he will make it but I think it’s the right move to keep him. Other than aquarterback the most important position is pass rusher. Okpalaugo has sacked the qb 3 times thispreseason. Obviously the guy is a workin progress, however I think we should give him a year to develop and I wouldn’t want to expose him to the practice squad. Just ask the Giants if they regret cutting the raw but talented Derek Wake in 05. Dt 6- Soliai, Odrick, Starks, Randall, Francis, Robertson– 6 Defensive tackles seems like a lot especially since I would cut Martin however I believe that the final 3 guys have all shown enough inpreseason to make the roster. Now all 3 probably won’t make it but I would keep them if it was my call. Especially when you consider both Starks and Soliai are free agents and who knows what they might be offered on the free market. Lb 5- Misi, Ellerbe, Wheeler, Trusnik, Spitler –Obviously with all the defensive linemen I had to cut short on some of the linebackers. I expect more then 2 backups however these are the guys I would keep. I kept Trusnik and Spitler for special teams reasons only. None of the back up linebackers impressed me at all. I thought all 4 of the bubble defensive linemen looked better than any of the back up linebackers. I also think both Jordan and Vernon will see some time at Linebacker this year which will add to the depth of the position. This is a position I definitely expect to see new faces. Cb 5- Grimes, Patterson, Carrol, Taylor, Davis – Easiest position to pick. S 4- Jones, Clemons, Wilson, McCray – McCray could be on the bubble but I think he makes it unless someone Miami really likes is out there. St 4 – Fields, Sturgis, Denney, Thigpen – Pretty easy to predict as well. What do you think?
This is the best projection IMO. I guess it is because it's exactly how I would do it, other than one. I'd keep ERod over Kyle Miller. http://www.thephinsider.com/2013/8/...final-miami-dolphins-53-man-roster-projection
This was probably discussed in other threads but I will ask it here anyway. Is Pat Devlin eligible for the practice squad?
Lol. When I heard Griese saying it was all Egnews fault I was thinking this man is not saying anything accurate. Egnew created more than enough separation. I was actually pleased that he attacked the inside shoulder of the defender, sunk his hips, planted and burst to the corner with a nice little shove. It was Devlin who missed.
Welcome aboard. Yes it has been discussed elsewhere and our answer is, we believe so. There have been quasi-informed sources who have said so but our research isn't sure. Sorry but it the best answer we have.
this is correct, and welcome aboard NewJerseyDolphinsFan.... Also, the team apparently has told one of the reporters (forgot who, but saw it on twitter) that Devlin is eligible for the practice squad. IMO, it would be a mistake to expose him to the PS because I think another team will put him on their 53 (Jets... Bills...).. but perhaps, we have a "deal" with him and his agent. Even though I still think those deals aren't always 100% assurance that he will keep his word. It comes down to if he thinks Miami is the best place for him or not NEXT year. Does he think he can beat out Matt Moore NEXT year? We just might find out the answers to those questions but I hope note personally. He's too good to risk it. Would have loved to have seen him work behind our first string o line this preseason... I'm sure the coaches have seen it in practice though. I think he got a little nervous at times in the Saints game. He still hung in there a few times and got rocked just as he let the ball go. Made a couple of nice passes that way. But his nervousness also cost him some redzone completions.
DL - Ireland is always good for a trade to obtain a late round pick. My guess is that Kheeston Randall will be moved to open up a spot for A.J. Francis. Vaughn Martin may offer some flexibility as one of the veterans that are cut to hide a player from the upcoming waivers. LB - The team paid a lot to have a speedy OLB, which bodes well for Kaddu and Jelani Jenkins. I also think patience is needed for a rangy player to develop experience and confidence, which is what I believe happened with Jessie Armstead. FB/TE - Sherman's has had too much success with FBs, which should translate into the offense being more productive by keeping ERod. I think Kyle Miller makes the team over other special teamers as he looks as if can be a NFL TE plus he's the back-up LS. RS - Thigpen gets cut as he or a similar RS can be added if needed during the season. The defense is expected to provide momentum-changing plays plus value of a return specialist declines as touch-backs increase. WR - Bumphis and McNutt can be replaced next training camp if they are lost to waivers. The question with Tyms is if he can be targeted in 3rd down/redzone to replace some of the lost production expected from Binns and Keller. QB - A 3rd QB has value for Miami's game-planning and Devlin's smarts makes him well-suited for this role. Moreover, his ability to play for poor protection can help the offense prepare if they have to deal with OL injuries.
Wasn't that how he made it through the Colts training camp and stuck around on their practice squad? After that game (perhaps Steelers or Bears), where an injury to a long snapper made punting nearly impossible, teams need to have an adequate back-up. Miller will never be a starting LS, but he seems the most logical player to have the back-up LS role. The other TEs need to spend every available minute improving their game; back-up OL need to learn multiple line positions, and potential LBs are likely limited to Spitler and Trusnik. If Miller makes over S & T, its likely their special team tackling is replaced by Kaddu, Jenkins, and ERod, while Miller can contribute multiple roles.
Missed on Tyms, Rodriguez (but that doesn't count), Francis, Randall, Spitler... For Don Jones, Vaughn Martin, Tyler Clutts (doesn't count), RJ Stanford, Josh Kaddu So that's four misses. Guess when you net it all together, but AJ Francis vs Vaughn Martin is not that big of a deal. We went with experience vs youth. Really not upset about Tyms (he's on the practice squad), Spitler (never really felt he was worthy of being on our 53 for 3 seasons) and Randall (he never really made impact plays... was okay, but nothing spectacular... unlike Francis). WR Hartline, Wallace, Gibson, Matthews, Tyms OL Martin, Incognito, Pouncey, Samuda, Clabo, Garner, Thomas, Jerry, Yeatman TE Egnew, Sims, Clay RB/FB Miller, Thomas, Gillislee, Rodriguez QB Tannehill, Devlin, Moore DL Wake, Odrick, Starks, Soliai, Vernon, Shelby, Randall, Jordan, Francis LB Misi, Ellerbe, Wheeler, Freeny, Trusnik, Jenkins, Spitler CB Grimes, Patterson, Taylor, Davis, Carroll S Clemons, Jones, Wilson, McCray K/P/ST: Sturgis, Fields, Thigpen, Denney
Andy Cohen states : 22 first and second-year players on the 53-man roster. Edit: original 53 till Clutts was swapped for Rodriquez - so now 21 players

You can't replace him now, which sucks, so i guess you can only cheer for Bess to have a great season just like i do!
