TE: Did Sherm let something slip about our 3 TE?

On the official site, theres a PC with Sherm. The very end he's asked about Keller and the TE position, and he says:

"......and I'm hopeful we can do something with Sims and Egnew."

No mention of Clay. Could be an oversight. Could be that they already know what they get from Clay. However, on the Coach Philbin show (also on the official site), Philbin discusses what is expected of a the fullback position. He says run blocking, pass protection and pass catching...not running.

I'm beginning to think we're not too worried about a blocking TE and instead that role will be played by a more "blocking" fullback (Clutts) and we'll spice things up with more of a "catching" fullback (Clay) and still have a Sims or Egnew on the field. Maybe they feel, its better to have that extra blocker in the backfield instead of the line since our problems seem to be at RG???

I'm fully aware this potential "revelation" I'm having has probably already been figured out...before the draft and had a 32 page thread on it.........but damn it I feel special.

Agler was mentioning that the staff feels Thigpen and Egnew can either play Wr or the slot which is why they have 4 Wr's on the roster

Would expect that Clay and Egnew/Sims would go into some of the looks they wanted to do with Keller and Sims.

The question was whether we lose something with Keller and plays designed for him, and he said no we can fill in with Egnew and Sims...which I interpreted as they are better fits to replace plays dedicated for Keller, rather than Clay who is a different type player.

By the end of this season Sims will be the guy we look to to carry the load at TE. Maybe sooner, if the coaches are smart. :)

Well, to me, this is what is great about the NFL.

Egnew was largely seen as a roster potted meat product prior to the season, now he has a shot to show what he can do

I like Sims a lot...he just LOOKS like a TE...and seems to have much better football instincts than Egnew. Egnew just seems kind of lost out their when going for a pass...although his blocking got much better.

Clay is listed as the starting TE on the latest depth chart. Egnew #2 and Dion #3.

Marcus Thigpen also leaps Gilesslee for #3 RB.

Jelani Jenkins is the backup MLB.

Jamar Taylor is in the injury doghouse and listed behind RJ Stanford. Ouch.

Vaughn Martin listed as DE...but if Dion is healthy...I just don't see it.

Pretty sure he's always been #3.
