David Gilbert (Wisconsin grad), Kamalu and Justin Renfrow (UVA DT transfer) are ready to practice as of today. Miami also picked up Naim Mustafaa, former Oklahoma St recruit (2013). LOTS of depth added to the line.
The Spring game is on at 6:30 and the game against FAU starts at 8, both on ESPNU. I hope they show the tribute to Howard Schnellenberger and the '83 National Championship team.
Satisfying win. Offense left points on the field, but the defense looked good. Got good push most of the night and had no issue tackling. Gotta fix those offensive errors for next week, tho. And Duke is god.
Considering we gave up 400 yards to Bethune Cookman in the opener last year, I was excited to see improvement in the defense. We actually generated a pass rush and most importantly, no bend dont break CBs playing 10 yards off the WR playcalling. We were aggressive. Played a lot of press man. A lot of 3-4 looks as well, especially on running situations. Tracy Howard and Kacy Rodgers really impressed me. Alex Figueroa is good. Offensively, looked pretty obvious to me we were holding back for the UF game next week. Having a new OC, it does help going into a game where they have no film on how much the offense has changed from a coaching standpoint from last year. Duke was the beast we all know he is. Morris looked terrible. No idea what was going on there. FAU took away the deep ball. Morris was out of sync all game. It's going to be a long game if he plays like that next week. Sucks to see Stacy Coley drop 2 TD passes. He's a true freshman playing his first game, so I'll just chalk it up first game jitters for now. He's going to be a stud for us either way. As will Herb Waters. My 2 favorite WR's on the team. The Scott injury sucks. Looks pretty serious. Like a torn labrum or something. Luckily we're pretty deep at WR. Offensive Line was a huge disappointment. For what is supposedly the best unit on the team, they looked like ****. I said it last year and I'll say it this year, they're overrated. Protecting the QB, they might be the best in the nation. But run blocking has left a lot to be desired for too long. Especially short yardage situations. Still a really good unit, but not the dominant force some people have made them out to be. Not until they can generate a push on these short yardage situations.
Brock Berlin honorary captain for UF game. Get ready folks.
Stephen Morris: Misses wide open 9 yard hook route. Proceeds to throw a 52 yard rope while taking a hit the next drive.
Offense needs to assert itself. Gators can't win if they are in obvious pass situations as the game progresses. By not distancing ourselves we are allowing them to keep running the ball longer.
Not going to lie, I don't like our chances at this point unless our offense gets on track. Defense causing a score or great field position would be nice.
Absolutely agree. Can't win a game going three and out consecutively. Defense is bending not breaking, but they're tired. Offense needs to get some time of possession so the D can rest.
