    This is a bit silly.
You refer to Ed Reed as a good example? How about those other guys who are not Ed Reed....is the whole team comprised of Ed Reeds? NO. There are people who will benefit from leadership/motivation. There are a lot of lazy NFL players who benefit from leadership whether it is from their coach or another player.

Leadership is a real influence in sports/life but everyone does not need to be led. Some people are like you and have no need for a mentor or any outside motivation because you have the discipline to get better and stay focused every single day on your own. Hopefully you will find some good examples of leadership and they will enlighten you to how useful a tool it is.

Remember, just because it does not influence you does not mean its not useful or necessary. You are just built differently.
Dismissing it outright is just choosing to be ignorant.

Duh. Guaranteed money. Anyone who believes otherwise is simply naive.

Also, Gibson is an upgrade over Bess.

I appreciate your post and udnerstand what you are saying.

My point is not that there is no such thing as "leadership", however you define that, or that it can have a positive impact on people. I'm sure there were players who Ray Lewis mentored that appreciated the experience and perhaps changes some habits because of it.

But at the end of the day, in sports, none of that matters unless the players are talented enough to perform on Sundays. And that we too often analyze sports in a lazy way by using nebulous concepts like "leadership", "momentum", etc., that cannot be measured in any tangible way so they can fit any narrative you want.

If Ryan Tannehill wins 10 games this year he will be lauded for his leadership, whether he did any actual leading or anything differently than he did when we went 7-9. We let the results dictate who we decide is a good leader or not. And that's just foolish thinking.

Good to see Pouncey on there. I was a little concerned after his Hernandez stunt that he could lose a little favor in the locker room (maybe naive on my part, admittedly). He's a top-3 center in the league, and that sort of performance usually ends in forgiveness.

Sorry man but I think this is somewhat ridiculous. No a player like Wallace isn't going to look to Tannehill for leadership. However for young guys like Egnew/Miller it is a huge plus to have a good leader at the QB position who you trust.

You hear players speak about leadership all the time. They don't do it to toot someones horn or laugh at our ignorance.
