http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/09/03/3602069/miami-dolphins-lamar-miller-gets.html About damn time, I thought this would be a bigger deal after the head games the staff have been playing for the past couple weeks.
it's better this way, even if Thomas would outperform Miller this season. Better for the bigger back to be the 2nd one in. The smaller guy just makes room for the bigger one...
Yeah. Not very subtle either. You gotta butter em up, you can't get hamfisted. Sent from my LG-MS770 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Enough people did to have him fall in fantasy drafts. I picked him up in later rounds, far down where he was going just two weeks ago
I've been in 4 drafts spanning the last week and a half, and I noticed a severe bump in draft position for him the last week. Similar to Gio Bernard.
Won it by default, kinda - I think that's why people didn't talk it up much. I mean, have you seen our backups...
Rotoworld hyped him up like crazy then started second guessing him when they heard Ireland talk up Thomas and people overreacted. It was nice lol
It would be a kick in the *** if Gilly is the most productive guy week 1. Sure hope he's not on the inactive list.
Dolphin coaches have been mismanaging RBs for years. And that includes Philbin's handling of Reggie at times last season. Let's see if they can finally get it right. Make Miller the workhorse with Thomas only coming in when absolutely necessary.
I just dont see Miller as an everydown back .We may not have one on the team.I think it will be more of a RB by committee situation depending on down and distance.
That's what I'm thinking too. Miller is the 1st and 2nd down back with Thomas as the third down/short yardage power back. Mike G. will be the speedy, shifty #3 RB who'll play here and there but mostly on ST.
The Dolphins coaches have specifically said they do not like the approach of having one guy take 1st/2nd down and another guy take 3rd downs. Several times. They had to do it last year because they were forced into it by virtue of Reggie Bush being such a poor backfield blocker. It wasn't a matter of him not knowing the playbook or anything like that. He just sucked at it and always has. That's a huge part of the reason he's now in Detroit instead of Miami. They could have re-signed him easily and affordably. He wanted to come back. They moved on because they want complete backs.
I don't think the team agrees. I don't either for that matter. The one thing Miller lacked last season was pass pro proficiency. I imagine they made it clear they wanted to improve there and he clearly has. Thomas is also a complete back. I don't see the same level of overall skill in him, but he's also a guy who can play all three downs. I just think he's best on third down as a blocker or as a receiver. I don't think he's good as a power back. I expect you'll see them alternate series. I don't think they'll be religious about it being exactly even though. Miller will get more attempts especially as the season moves on. Early on it should be closer to even though as they try to keep both backs fresh.
My guess is initially they'll give Lamar two series for every one series of Thomas and then they could look to expand the duties from there if he gets hot. Two-for-one rotation is fairly common. Philbin used it up in Green Bay with James Starks and Ryan Grant.
