Geno will be historically bad. John Beck levels with a New York circus and vultures circling over Rex. The Dolphins should and MUST defeat the Jets twice.

The Bills are not much better. If we can't do better than 3-1 vs those teams we are in trouble.

No it wasn't. The main reason was the gimmick of the WildCat. That opened things up. We weren't playing well before that, its why we tried the WildCat in the first place. If Penny could throw the ball, we never would have even went to the WildCat.

    People need to understand that:

    Penny's smarts/dink and dunk accuracy + the WildCat = 1 good QB.

The Jets go 0-16. Most of the time, Rex just wanders around the sideline and mumbles while he plays Angry Birds on his iPhone. That is, until, in week 4 vs the Titans, when he winds up wandering all the way to the opposing sideline. He accidentally calls an all-out blitz that ends Geno Smith's season with a broken fibula. The next day, a sex tape comes out featuring Rexy nibbling on Paula Deen's toes, which are (of course!) covered in brown gravy. He is (finally) fired. His wife then runs off with Mark Sanchez, who, after his release from the Jets, gets a job as a snake milker.

    Oh... the Dolphins? 10-6. Wildcard.

Larry, I almost believed your story until I read the part about Sanchez and Rex's ex wife. We all know Sanchez likes it dirty an will run off with Rex to the gay Mecca of Wilton Manors. Sanchez will get a tatto of Rex's belly on his *** and they will live happily ever after.

Nah, there not that good at the scrambling gene..they both like the pocket...

You think Geno and EJ will take advantage of our defense?... Sorry, I don't agree with that at all..we have a very good defense..ain't no rookie not named Luck or Wilson gonna take advantage of this defense, and we still beat Wilson, should of beaten Luck.

    IMO we win 10 games.

I'm calling the Falcons home opener as the shocker of the season when the Dolphins steal a W.

This thread has confirmed the overall mood if the fanbase. Gone are the days of enthusiasm and 12-4 predictions. With that being said we still tend to overestimate how good this team is.. Imagine if that is the case again this year and the 9-7 and 8-8 predictions are actually
    on the optimistic side??

Yes. I'm a big proponent of running any and all schemes/formations/plays/philosophies/etc.

We finally have the QB who can do it all and a staff willing to do it all. By the end of next offseason, (assuming this staff is still intact) we will be the most versatile team in the league on offense and defense. I truly believe that has been the goal of Philbin this whole time. Its been hinted at 100's of times since last year....we will be a team that can play finesse, smash mouth, offense centric, defensive centric, pass, run, blitz heavy, zone, man, etc.

Look at our QB...he's a on the move QB that has been forced to learn (still learning) the pocket. Look at our receivers, they need to play on the perimeter and the slot. Look at how Clay is both a TE and FB. Look at how many guys on our oline did some position cross training. Look at how our dline is equally set up for 3-4 or 4-3, with numerous guys having the ability and experience inside and out. Look at Dion Jordan and the entire kitchen sink he brings.

The plan's parts have been ridiculed, whether it be the whole "don't need a #1 WR" (that was totally misunderstood by the detractors) or the drafting of Dion. But the plan is in place and the steps are being taken to achieve that goal. Its glorious.

This is a quote taken from a dolphin fan..

"While I do agree somewhat, and people will say we have been waiting ten years to return to the playoffs etc etc...When you spend the amount of money on high profile FA's as this team has, you kind of expect playoffs."

    End quote.

Holding a grudge from years past which had nothing to do with the current staff, and even though were 2nd out of 32 teams in the whole freakin league in cap space, he thinks we spent a whole Lot of money..lol.

Please don't follow this narrative..it's ignorant.

0-16 or bust. If the past has taught us nothing it should be that the only thing that is a constant is that their are only a handful of teams you can guarantee a winning season and playoff bearth. The est is just guessing.

I can't believe folks are wussin out, how is the fact that two rookie qbs starting inside our division not altering their reasoning and why aren't we excited about this, we had to start our rookie Qb last year, and take our fu&'in lumps..

Our defense has the potential to be a force y'all..There is only one way where the jets and the bills have a chance, and that is if dolphin fans show their *** at home this year and the team continues to come out flat at home.

We have the better team than the browns, way better from a matchup perspective..

That should be five wins with the starting talent we have.

Ban Aqua if we lose to Cleveland.

My prediction? 10-6 and the playoffs. I actually think we could win more games if Tannehill improves greatly but if he struggles we could win less.

But, yeah, 10-6 and a playoff spot is my feeling.

I don't doubt our defense is going to be really good. Division opponents always give teams issues though. Look at what the Rams did last year against the NFC west with the 49'ers and Seahawks. Division wins are always tough.

We had the #1 team in scoring defense last year, I think we've upgraded that unit..

It looks like a tough schedule on paper, but every year you see teams that hit a streak of games at the right time (cough, cough, Patsies) where things go their way. And there are always teams that are sure locks that choke. Lets have some hope people! If this team can gather some early confidence against good teams... watch out!

I think we'll finish 9-7 but 10-6 is very realistic IMO.

I'd guess we'll enter the BYE week 3-2 or 2-3.

There are two things that control the fate of this team, this year....

    1) All our optimism is based on either rooks or second/third yr guys making that 'jump' in their game...Tannehill...does he take that next step? Miller...we know he's got the stuff, but can he stay healthy and upright? Thomas...can he stay healthy enough to give Miller breathers? Clay/Egnew/Sims...we know there isn't a Keller there yet, but can the combination of that group be enough to take some pressure off and make a few seam routes to move out the safeties? Jordan...can he be that complement to Wake that we've haven't had since Wake burst onto the NFL scene? Taylor...Can he actually grow into a starter opposite Grimes? Grimes...can he stay healthy? Martin...can he improve enough that Tanny doesn't get killed before we play our second game? JJ...does he finally grow up and mature into the OL that we thought, once long ago, that he can be? Jones/Clemons...can they repeat (or improve) the year they had last year? Ellerbe/Misi/Wheeler...can we finally have a LB corps that can cover a TE? WRs...Are these guys worth what was spent on them this offseason? Sure I'm missing one or two, but there are several players that have to "take that step" in order for this team to have the year we want.

    2) How bad will the injury bug hurt us during this year? This team has adequate starters, that may improve, but no depth except along the DL. Can we stay healthy enough with key players that this group has the chance to meld together as a unit and let those young guys mature?

All that said, I think it's too much for all that to happen, and start off a little shaky (as has been this teams' MO) and end up 7-9 or 8-8. I also predict that Mr. Ross feels Irish has shown enough that he does not go off half-cocked and fire the whole lot this coming offseason, even with a disappointing, but improving season...

I'm really in agreement about the Cleveland game, personally. It is game one so obviously they can bounce back from a loss, but the Browns are a very beatable team and it'd be nice to get an away win to start the season, especially given the difficulty of the Dolphins schedule until they come off the bye week. While I think they're bound to win one of the games vs Indy, Atlanta, NO, and Baltimore, it's not unreasonable to state that perhaps they might lose all those games.

If that were to happen, going into a bye week sitting at 0-5 would be devastating. The mental approach to the rest of the season would be a huge question mark to boot.

So while by no means a be-all-end-all, I agree that I don't think it's unreasonable to say that a win in week one could be pretty crucial to the rest of the season, based on the structure of the schedule. If the Dolphins can go into the bye week sitting at 2-3 even, their schedule really eases up and a + .500 season then doesn't look so unlikely. Heck, perhaps even a wild card berth! But if they're gonna go into the bye week 2-3, I think one of those wins has to come vs the Brown.

Our first string outplayed or at least played even in every preseason game except the HOF game. I think Tannehill has a solid if not above average year, and the Oline is also average or a little bit better than average. Couple that with an extraordinary defense and solid special teams and I predict 11-5. Ireland saves his job and Philbin gets some run in coach of the year talk.

I think everything hinges on the offensive line. If they come out strong and give Tannehill enough time to get settled and develop a chemistry with his offensive weapons. Tannehill needs a little help to develop into the quarterback we all want and expect him to be. If he spends the afternoon running for his life it could bode for a long up and down season.

Of course he brought in talent, any football fan with half a brain can see that. we have good players, most of them weren't drafted, which does bother me a bit, I'm sure everyone wishes we had a GM who could find a Mike Wallace in the draft rather than paying him 60 mil to steal him away from another team, but as long as we become a winner it doesn't really matter...I just don't know if we have enough to make the playoffs this year...maybe if we had a good left tackle.

and don't let this team get hit with any type of injury bug, outside of the defensive line we don't really have depth anywhere...and even the DL depth took a hit after we cut Randall and Francis.
