They've shown some signs that they really like him. During the snaps he did play last year, he might have even been Miami's best linebacker. But that's a bit of song because Karlos Dansby and Kevin Burnett were ultimately better football players because they could play those passing downs and do well whereas Koa would either have to lay his hand down and pass rush on those downs (which he's not very good at) or leave the field.

They envision this linebackers unit being the core of a defense for years, it would seem.

Excellent. He's always been a good player despite some wanting to smack him down because he's not Gronkowski.

I think he's really made the next step and improved the past couple years.

I like this move. He's gotten better each year since he was drafted. Solid player.

I've nothing against the move, he's been a solid player recently who's been getting better. He's got a high floor, with maybe a not especially high ceiling, but dependable is a good characteristic to have in a team too.

I like this move a lot. He's not a flashy player, and may not have big stats, but what he does for the defense is quite integral IMO, and he does his job quite well.

Solid move. Hes not flashy but not everyone can be. You need guys that grind and work through the tough situations. Hopefully he can get better in coverage...

interested to see what the #'s are for IMO our third best linebacker.

Ellerbe was 5 years, 34.5m with 17m guaranteed
Wheeler was 5 years, 26m with 13m guaranteed

Misi? 4 year extension (really a five year deal)... 5 years, 20m with 10 guaranteed? Not an every down player. If it's more than this, IMO we're overpaying.

Isn't it nice to hear that we are extending guys instead of letting them walk after their rookie contracts and going out and picking up a (likely) more costly FA to fill that spot ??

    Good stuff...

Wow, I didn't expect this so soon after tying up $60 million in the other 2 LB spots. That's a lotta dough. Koa is great vs the run but I hope we won't be overpaying for a 2 down LB.

So much for thinking Dion Jordan would take over that role next year. Guess they plan on going with a more traditional 4-3 with Jordan at RE. I'm not a fan of extending Koa this soon. I would've preferred to wait and see what Vernon & Jordan look like this year first, as well as what next year's draft slot is b/c this doesn't seem like a necessity signing ATM. I thought Vernon at RE in base with Jordan moving up to end in nickel would've done the trick. :dunno:

Could be that they plan on playing Jordan as a LB on 3rd downs (Misi out). While OV plays DE…. Otherwise Jordan will be in there all over the place IMO.

You're right this this has long term implications toward Dion Jordan's use.

It's basically Heath Evans' worst nightmare. Dion Jordan is a straight up defensive end, now.

Omar is closer to right than wrong, IMO. As long as the deal is very, very, cheap, I'm ok with it.

Misi is a strong SOB who's willing to do the dirty work (running face first into blockers at full speed). Quiet, hard worker. Philbin probably loves him.

I'm good with this. Get big Paul next.

I'd like to hope this doesn't mean Jordan isn't going to be a DE in the base package. I guess it depend on what they're paying him, because he can back up and play multiple positions.

I wasn't a fan of Misi when we drafted him as I felt he was a mismatch for our defense at the time. But seeing how he's a better fit in our 4-3 defense, I like this move.

My sentiment as well. Jordan at RE with Misi next to him at LB... or Vernon at RE with Jordan at LB? The former doesn't seem much stouter vs the run, and the latter to me offers more flexibility. But like you said, it depends on what we're paying him.

Well, my 2014 draft dream of pairing Stephon Tuitt with Jordan is now crushed. LOL.

I've seen some coverage improvements in his game, that play he made in preseason down the field on that deep out was exceptional..got his body turned around while the ball was in the air, didnt interfere, it really was a very difficult cover for a backer..

He's really good at setting the edge and brings you a few sacks every year. As long as it's somewhat close to Channing Crowder money it's positive.

He can play either scheme but personally I like him better as a 3-4 OLB in the base. In the nickel, I would like to see him get some chances rushing the passer at DE in a wide 9 alignment.

Cobra when it was #99. Jordan kind of looks like a giant Praying Mantis, so we could call his position the Mantis.

Well, I think that its fairly safe to say that we wont be spending any high draft picks on LBs in the near future. If Jenkins can pan out as a reserve, we have the top four signed for at least the next four seasons.
