I wonder if the defensive staff has thoughts of playing Dion Jordan like the Bengals play Michael Johnson. Johnson, while a pure pass-rush guy in the base and sub pacakges, still lines up differently with alignments and stances. I think you can use Dion Jordan similarly to this and still have him drop back into coverage when you need him to.

To me, it makes sense that if they were really interested in Michael Johnson before he got tagged. Jordan's of a pretty similar style build with a more diverse skillset. IMO, he's going to end up the long-term answer at DE where Olivier Vernon currently is playing, but you can do more with him there than Miami does with Vernon and Cincinnati does with Johnson and still leave Misi at SLB.

Yeah, I think they're going to certainly be using Jordan as a stand-up guy in Nickel packages. I'm just more hopeful it's SOLB in base packages, which this seems to contradict.

I think if Dion Jordan can put on another 15-20lbs and get into that 260-270lbs range, like Michael Johnson did with Cincinnati, you can count on him as a DE in base packages.

Depending on what the signing bonus was....it looks like pretty much Channing Crowder money + a year.

Hopefully this means our LB corps is now left alone for a few seasons and the team can focus elsewhere.

I didnt watch a lot of the Bengals during Coyles tenure there but didnt he use Manny Lawson in a stand-up Joker type role? Im wondering if thats how we will use Jordan? 3 down linemen, 3 standup linebackers and a rush end position.

Manny Lawson was basically Koa Misi. He was pulled on passing situation for the most part.

    Decent deal.

Known for off the wall thinking, could be, Cam Wake just nudged towards the door though.

Especially if Vernon and Jordan show well.

Probably wrong, just would not be surprised, they really like younger players and one of the things that held up Wake's extension last yr was that they were afraid he'd crater (fall off the skills cliff).

he didn't even have to mention anyone's bubble. Yet, there is potential to see it burst.

This. However, @Boik, they used Michael Johnson in a stand-up role in both base and sub packages. Johnson, IMO, is a better pass-rusher than Jordan, but Jordan is an overall better athlete and can be used in different ways. In essence, he can be used in all packages as a true DE or in a "joker" position. But, it seems clear with the re-signing of Misi that the staff wants Jordan to develop as a true DE; at least at first.
