The only front 7 starter who was out for them was Rubin. WTF are you talking about with this backup DL talk?
There's quite literally an excuse but it does show lack of maturity. And if 6 pro bowls, a trip to a Super bowl and a fair share (guilty of not knowing the exact amount for my argument) of +1000 yard seasons comes with the Owens comparison, i like the portent of our future. The high horse- thats ridiculous. Come off it, brother. We've been a $h!tty football team for far too long for such arrogance. How dare he? Really? That's where you want to take it? Look, show me a winner and I'll show you a team, a fan base deserving of telling a player to stuff his whinning. Until then, your Miami Dolphins, our Miami Dolphins; can shut it. And some should follow suit. You want A+ conduct on your $h!tty football team, I can respect that but I do find it ridiculous. You do have a point with it being the first game and when it comes to that fact, my sentiments are way overblown. But I am defending Wallace- and not Wallace, the potential of what Wallace offers our team (screw Wallace in comparrison to the team)- because he made headlines and now, I have no choice but to spew what seems like venom on a great day when its really just a want of something more. The staff may need more time, its only the first game. Or the staff may need pink slips. I like to base judgement on what we've seen so far. Do you see a champion on the field? I see the very same uninspiring playcalling from last year. The conclusion is this, Wallace is an idiot for his post game antics AND his post game antics are well deserved.
It is one game. So he had a game with just one catch. It wasn't the first time in his career he's had a 1 catch game and it won't be the last. Now, if after 4 games he only has 4 catches total or so, then there is some cause for concern.
JW I always like your post but I think you are way off we cant afford to be picky in choosing players or else we will be in worse shape then ever. its one thing to get a 15 yard penalty for fighting or something but to raise hell over a player wanting to get the ball more is absurd . If Miami had the talent that we should have on offense then I could see your point . besides shouldn't we be more concerned about our oline and running game ?
It's my contention that with better pass pro, Wallace gets 1 or 2 more there. All the other crap aside, he needs to at least take that into account before he asks for a fresh diaper.
Starks played well in the game. I think you see dramatic differences in this defense without Soliai or Starks. They anchor the front line and allow the other components of the defense to make a difference. As far as Wallace is concerned, I am not a fan of him personally, but I will pull for him as a member of the Dolphins. Don't like his talk game and want to see him as more of a show it guy. He has done that in the past. These things will work themselves out. I just want to see him contribute and he did in a way today as a decoy, although he was targeted for some long routes in the second half.
The simplicity of your rebuddles are genius, pure genius. Sweet, short, to the point, and when looking at the immediate- true. You know football (at least in a fair world you do) and despite your wanting to be right, you very well know what it means when you should be dominating a football game and you are not. I didn't peg you for content with mediocrity and I'm positive you're not but your reply does make a lot of sense in contest to mine. Perhaps a smarter reply to your genius should've been simply, "Congratulations." But I'm longwinded to a fault. It's something I would change about myself if I could.
this next point is really spot on. But I'm telling you right now. Tanne is ready for king of the mountain top but he'll need Wallace as a sherpa(sp?). If your offensive coordinator does this piss poor of a job of trying to get this combustible chemistry bubbling, hell, it should be an offense punishable by lashings. Keep calling him a cry baby. We'll see who's crying once the Patriots and teams of the like are putting up 4 tds and we dont have the firepower, the chemistry, nor the play-calling to keep up.
In my best Chelcie Ross voice via the movie Major League "Are you tryna say that Jesus can't cover Mike Wallace"
I think the press should have backed off after Wallace said he didn't want to answer any questions. Instead they kept prodding him for some bull **** remark after a game in which A, we won but B, he wasn't involved on the stat sheet. He told them to go ask the coach about the game plan after he was asked about the game plan. Whoop de freaking do. Not like he opened up his press conference after the game with a diatribe of ill hated venom aimed at the team and coaching staff for not having him involved. He was biting his tongue. What more do you expect?
What's he going to do quit? Is he going to turn the locker room against Tannehill? Unlikely on both accounts so I'm not concerned at all about this. Let him pout and make himself look like a baby. As long as he does his job who cares.
Reading the various comments about how Wallace did in this game, like I said before, it is much ado about nothing. Or much ado about very little anyway. It is one game. So he had a game with just one catch. It wasn't the first time in his career he's had a 1 catch game and it won't be the last. Now, if after 4 games he only has 4 catches or thereabouts, then there is some cause for concern. We won and Wallace contributed in ways that do not reflect in his stat line. There is at least 15 more to play, He'll get his chances. As for whether we should have been dominating at half time, that maybe true, if Cleveland couldn't play defense. They have a very good, and apparently underrated defense, at least for some Miami fans. The announcers made a big deal of Miami getting 3 picks and only 2 scores. Cleveland got a pick too, which came when Miami was driving and offset one of Miami's 3. Cleveland's very good defense is led by a DC who gave Miami trouble in Zona last year. I read some comment about how Cleveland's DL was all backups, and still no run blocking. That was not remotely close to being true. One, count 'em, one defensive starter was out and that was Ahtyba Rubin, the LDE. Billy Winn who replaced him is a very good run defender, as is Rubin, and neither are anything special as pass rushers. It is a very minor drop off to replace Rubin with Winn. IMHO, WADR, this thread is full of knee jerk reactions, and some flat out inaccuracies, regarding Wallace, his performance, his post game comments, and the state of the defense Miami was facing.
I ****ing hate Armando...He wasn't single covered. Haden had safety help over the top on the vast majority of the plays. Stupid press trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill AFTER a win. Can't you find something positive to talk about dolts!? It's a good thing I don't live in Miami... I'd be inclined if I ever saw this turd to punch him in the face and then high five the nearest witness.
Good stuff Clean...Like was said above a few times, Wallace usually gets shut down by this CB, so it's nothing new from that perspective. He'll be alright...just needs a Midol and a nice warm bath. On another note, when's the last time we beat Cleveland on the road? I'll take it...
Pfft, I rarely bother with the Dolphins media types, they rarely know what they are talking about. As for a metric for Wallace, if we get to say gm #4 and he has done very little, there is a problem in either play design or calling, he is a dominant player and that will shine through on the field.
They also spent $75 million this offseason on that DL. I'm chalking this up to his curse vs Cleveland and the fact they really didn't try much underneath. I mean really Haden gave him large cushion all day long. So we don't try a slant or a drag route? Come on. I'd be pissed to if I was Wallace. You pay me to be the #1 but you go the entire half and don't even attempt to get him the ball.
Then goes on to say "not throwing him the football" which is absolutely false and shaded with hate...he's a doosh. I'll be ya witness brother!
Well that's fairly interesting, because in the Sept. 8th 1985 season opener on the road against Houston, Shula, with Hall of Famer Dan Marino as QB, scored 23 points in a loss. This with Duper and Clayton. In fact, one of those TDs was a defensive TD. Then there were three field goals. The lone offensive TD came when Shula actually pulled Marino and put Don Strock in the game, helping us muster one offensive TD. And a loss. So, was that the sort of thing you'd be more supportive of than what Philbin and his staff did today?
I didn't say front seven, I said DL, and I said what amounted to their backup line—because that's what Cleveland had out there. Rubin was out, and Taylor had a back injury and was limited all week. You're kidding yourself if you think the OL stood up to a very good defensive line, though it might have been better than the Colts'. Maybe.
They gotta get those hits, man. Not that I agree with it but he should be use to the media prodding him for answers by now.
An unselfish, true pro, just responds with "it was a good win, the game plan and adjustments worked well." Certainly doesn't help that before the game Wallace was saying Haden and he had better bring a lunch. I think Haden stole his milk.
Whats with this shut downg crap i keep reading about? When Wallace was on camera, he had steps on the guy- every time. Imagine if our gameplan would've involved moving Wallace around. I keep reading reading decoy. A 60 million dollar decoy? f@@@@@$k me. Maybe so. Decoys don't hit home runs. I was going to reply to Clean. I'll do it here to avoid two posts: Clean, thats more like it. But this is not much ado about nothing. This MAY be much ado about nothing- all of the difference in the world, sir. All of the difference.
Very true. But you have to imagine playing a more potent offense. We have to be able to, not hit home runs because this isn't baseball, but we have to be able to have big play potential so we can answer the likes of a Peyton Manning type shallacking- 3 passes,1 minute and 23 seconds starting from their own 20 and 7 points are on the board. Wallace give us the best chance to do that. You gotta get the guy involved and you have to start having Tanne become one with his most dangerous weapon.
2/3s of their starting front 3 started and played the game. No matter how you want to spin it, that does not amount to them playing with a backup DL.
One game is not enough to establish any pattern to how the season is going to play out for Wallace. You all are carrying on like Wallace will finish the season with 16 catches. I guess that means Hartline will finish with 144 catches and 16 TDs too then. I guess people need something to talk about, so they invent problems where none really exist. IF, I was going to be concerned about anything to do with this offense, it would not be Wallace. It would be the OL. But even with them I am willing to wait til the team hits the quarter pole before gnashing my teeth too much.
i have only one issue with mike wallace right now....on his twitter account he is still showing that steelers uniform...get rid of that pic Mike !!!!
