Maybe I do my best work on Ambien. Let's say hypothetically a man was in Japan on his honeymoon and after relaxing in hot springs in the evening he took an Ambien to go to sleep. But then hypothetically he did not go to sleep and instead browsed the internet on his iPad, and decided it was a good idea to stop in at an online betting site, and make about $600 of bets on the presidential election that was about to happen back in the U.S. And let's say that man won all 11 of the individual bets he laid down that night. That man might be convinced he's a genius when he takes Ambien.
I interpret it as a commitment to rotation and willingness to use players to their strengths situationally. Not something Ireland seemed to do with high pick resources, but he seems to be shopping for Coyle now,.
Possible articles: 1) Most underrated D in the league? 2) The Kevin Coyle Secondary. How does he make secondary players look better than they ever have before in their career? 3) The Running Of The Qbs: Comparing how Tannehill, Luck, RGI III, CKap and Wilson are all used (similarities and differences) by their OCs 4) Second Year: Tannehill as a second year QB, Philbin as a second year coach. What do we expect and what are we seeing compared to their rookie years? 5) The Tight End position! What do we expect to see as the year goes on at TE? 6) How The Dolphins Win With Special Teams, The Forgotten 1/3
I like 5 and 6. I think 2 could be workable if it's tweaked a little bit to where I'm not making such a sweeping generalization and I'm just exploring the secondary tendencies of Coyle.
agreed. we need our front four to generate consistent pressure w/o help. then sprinkle in the occasional blitz.
I've never forgotten that lesson. My dog's name is Ray by the way. He's just as derpy as the real Ray Stanz.
If you take up screenwriting this could pass as something Darren Aronofsky would have made in his older (and in my opinion, better) days of movie making haha. Hell - If you can have a movie with a conspiracy plot regarding the value of Pi determining all things in the universe and its discovery being tightly contested by hasidic jews and wall street bankers....why not a movie about a half asleep and strung out CK jerking off in a Tokyo hotel room, accidentally getting rich, and ultimately hunted by Vegas bookies?
My sides hurt and I can't breathe properly. And people walking by my office door are looking at me funny. Excellent work.
I'm really curious to see if Vontae covers Hartline and how them knowing each other so well plays out. I'm really looking forward to another look at my beloved Fins to see how good they are. Wow, I'm pretty excited.
One idea could be a comparison of how the first round QBs from last year (and maybe Wilson) are progressing or regressing from last year. It may be too early in the season for such a piece, but if you like it, it may be an option for down the line.
That's a good idea for later in the year, but at the same time I am the Dolphins writer so I'd have to make it a Dolphins piece.
The write it after Tannehill outplays Brady in our first win against the Paps this season. How the QB guard is changing, a new breed, and show how this is refelcted by Tannehill (new breed) replacing the old school style (Brady) here in the AFC East.
I'd like to see an analysis of how (or if) havign a guy like Wallace changes the way opposing teams set up their coverage schemes, i.e., rolling coverages, more deep help, deeper safety help, etc. I think it has much, much less effect than many people seem to think. That hypothesis was largely confirmed IMO in the Cleveland game. I was at the game and spent a lot of time focusing on the Wallace/Haden matchup and there was very little deep help for Haden or rolling of coverages to Wallace's side. A proper analysis of this would have to involve comparing how opposing teams defend Wallace (or other elite speed/deep threats) with how they defend teams without that kind of player.
As for this week, I think a key is taking advantage of Luck's forced throws. In that first game against Oakland, Luck seemed to throw fewer passes into coverage and didn't have as many wildly inaccurate passes as last year. I thought those were weaknesses in his rookie season. It's just one game and I'm not crazy about Oakland's pass rushers so it's hard to tell if he's improved or just wasn't pressured well. I agree that Miami should be more judicious with the blitz this game, but I don't think they can abandon it. I think it's who they are, what this team was built to do. I think some red-dog blitzes could still cause Luck to force some passes. Option blitzes, in particular could work. And obviously, this time they actually have to capitalize, by bringing him down or catching the errant passes. I do like your key about stretching them horizontally. That would definitely be an emphasis this week, both b/c of the opponent and b/c we were so poor at running in general last week. They really need to help create some interior gaps to run through that could result from a few runs around the edge. I think RT has more than enough speed to threaten outside. Perhaps some moving pockets with a run/pass option in addition to to a little read option?
One time took an ambien at 5:00 am and my GF calls me (working the hurricanes in LA so it was 7 or 8 am there) and we carry on a full convo. Woke up the next day and she said she was surprised I answered. I said, "answered what?" My buddies and I were going to have an ambien contest. We're all going to take a full dosage, and see what happens with my wife witnessing and/or videotaping. I do enjoy sometimes when you fight the urge to sleep and you start hallucinating.
Hah. Wife swears I've never gotten up and done anything crazy on Ambien. I have stayed up on it though. Don't know about hallucinations but it sure does make words on a computer screen wiggle around pretty good. Wrote stuff pretty normally though and remembered it all the next day. Feel like I'm getting cheated, lol.
Someone touched on it in an earlier post. Best way to stop Luck is to keep him off the field. Our running game has to show up. Can't be as poor as last week can it? Im sure it will be tweeked by Philbin. Tweeked as in get Wallace the ball. If we don't use Wallace on slants or curls im going to be p****d. Im sure i won't be. This is a different game to the Browns. Tweeked as in using our #11,#82 and #10 to put Colts DB's and LBs on back foot. Clay did well. Can he do it again and put the ghost of Keller in the footlocker? Keller injury was big hit on our Offense. Sims or Egnew pleeeease step up. Would be huge if either of them do in the bigger picture. I don't want Tannehill having to go one dimensional and pass orientated. Play action is extinct if we dont get the run going. Its huge against the Colts. Keep Luck off the field.
IMO, Dolphins' best chance of getting the run game going is to run off-tackle to the side of either Mathis or Verner. Mathis is still undisciplined in setting the edge at times and Werner is still learning. Werner has good strength but his technique is still inconsistent and he allows himself to be taken out of the play at times. I don't see much of anything going up through the middle, especially when Chapman is on the field. That guy has been close to immovable most of the time. If Aubrayo Franklin is on the field the going up the middle can be hit or miss. He just doesn't have the strength and leverage that Chapman gets but he's still the starter because of his extreme edge in experience. I don't see that lasting the entire season though, and even with Franklin as the "starter", Chapman still sees the field quite a bit, especially in short yardage.
Has he met Pouncey or Incognito? Outside for us its a question mark with Clabo who on paper is ok and Martin is....err..ok but our TE's are untested on blocking. Sims is one for the future and he's a rook.
My game plan is to have 5 trainers working with Patterson so I don't have to see R.J. Stanford vs Reggie Wayne....
I like the idea of focusing on Miami's TEs...where they're at, where they should be going, etc. Would also kinda like to see what you think our weaknesses in the middle of the defense are. Seems we're tight on the edges, sick on the line, but very soft in the middle.
Did somebody say hallucination? This game seems evenly matched...I feel like we'll dominate them physically. Then the defense will seem complacent. Then a mad rush by the Colts at the end to win it. Probably more of a sprint with the team who gets the early lead winning it. If our D smothers Luck into a loss, then I will be impressed. One of the better matchups this week...
Member that brown fan who came round here last week talking sh&$ saying wake will be neutralized because of how good Schwartz was last year, I tried to tell his brown *** that he was miss informed, lol, he didn't listen, and Wake did what he do, (kracken celebration was one of his best) what a celebration after that third one, downright scary, and soon, the NFL will have to take notice of this superstar...member"
no need to. Jordan will get limited reps and the quote is based on their college games. Means diddly squat imo unless we are going down the superstition route. Jordans team mates will make the difference in this one.
Ideas for a story, how truly underrated Cam wake is..I mean this guy is never talked about on a national level...never..
Another great article I think BR is now legit. I actually would go the other way regarding defense. I would go blitz happy. After watching the highlights from last year, when we didn't blitz, Luck stood back and picked us apart. When we did blitz Luck at least we got him banged up a bit but he has some excellent pocket presence and movement. I wouldn't use any safety blitzes though. I would bring it with either Ellerbe or Wheeler. I would play quarters coverage and just let Luck try and dink and dunk. Too many times was Reshad Jones brought up into the box and we struggled defending a strong armed Luck in cover 3. It just didn't work.
This is true. The biggest complaint of last years match up was that we did not run enough. Bush, Thomas and Miller ran a combined 85 yards on 5 yards per carry. The problem was, we only ran 17 times and passed 38 times!
